  • As the thickness of mobile communication devices is getting thinner, the size of the internal parts is also getting smaller. Among them, the battery case requires a high-level deep drawing technique because it has a rectangular shape with a large aspect ratio. In this study, the initial blank shape was optimized to minimize earing in a multi-stage deep drawing process using an artificial neural network(ANN). There has been no reported case of applying artificial neural network technology to the initial blank optimal design for a square case with large aspect ratio. The training data for ANN were obtained though simulation, and the model reliability was verified by performing comparative study with regression model using random sample test and goodness-of-fit test. Finally, the optimal design of the initial blank shape was performed through the verified ANN model.

  • Particle contamination into and out of a cavity-cylindrical cavities with aspect ratios(width/depth) less than, equal to 1 and langer than 1, and also three dianensional T's attached to a cylindrical flow tube was studied numerically, using a finite difference method. In the process of unsteady particle diffusion, the particles contained in a concentration boundary layer near the tube wall plays an important role in the initial stage, after which a quasi-steady concentration profile is developed inside the cavity, resulting in an exponential change of concentration with time. Average concentration and its rate of change are observed to be closely correlated by a power law function in terms of Reynolds number and the logarithm of Schmidt number. Effects of the three parameters-Re, Sc, and aspect ratio-are analysed and well explained.

  • As Android platform and its applications are widely used, it is necessary to assure the reliability and safety of Android applications. The capture and replay technique is widely used for reproducing the crashes in Java applications. In this paper, we adapt the context-based capture and replay technique to Android applications by considering Android activity structure and its GUI characteristics. Our capture and replay technique uses probe code insertion based on AspectJ for minimizing the original code change and for enhancing the efficiency and reusability of the probe codes. For proving the efficiency of our technique, we provide a case study and execution overhead comparisons with related works, in which our approach has merits in GUI oriented Android applications with relatively low execution overhead.

  • This paper describes the possibility of analyzing gait pattern from the variation of the lower leg electrical impedance. This impedance is measured by the four-electrode method. Two current electrodes are applied to the thigh and foot., and two potential electrodes are applied to the lateral aspect, medial aspect, and posterior position of lower leg. We found the optimal electrode position for knee and ankle joint movements based on high correlation coefficient, least interference, and maximum magnitude of impedance change. From such features of the lower leg impedance, it has been made clear that different movement patterns exhibit different impedance patterns and impedance level.

  • Continuing improvements in integrated circuit chip density and functionality have mostly contributed toward a very large-scale integrated circuit(VLSI) and display device. In order to test (pass or fail) all of the high integrated semiconductor chip and display device, fine pitch probes are used. Fine pitch probes are manufactured by electroforming process of a Ni alloy in an electrolytic bath. In this paper, we expect that the electric field in bath with the Finite Element Method and applying the FEM result. So, we can obtained the probes that have high aspect ratio of 10 : 1

  • A comprehensive study has been made for the investigation of the convergence characteristics of the LU scheme for the Euler equations using von Neumann stability analysis. The stability results indicate that the convergence rate is governed by a specific parameter combination. Based on this insight it is shown that the LU scheme will not suffer convergence deterioration at any grid aspect ration if the local time step is defined using appropriate parameter combination. The numerical results demonstrate that this time step definition gives uniform convergence for grid aspect ratios from one to $1\times10^4$.

  • The purpose of this paper is to propose a simple analysis method of axial deformation of base-isolation rubber bearings in a building subjected to earthquake loading and present its applicability to the analysis of the bound of the aspect ratio of base-isolated buildings. The base shear coefficient is introduced as a key parameter for the bound analysis. The bound of the aspect ratio of base-isolated buildings is analyzed based on the relationship of the following four quantities; (i) ultimate state of the tensile stress of rubber bearings based on a proposed simple recursive analysis for seismic loading, (ii) ultimate state of drift of the base-isolation story for seismic loading, (iii) ultimate state of the axial compressive stress of rubber bearings under dead loads, (iv) prediction of the overturning moment at the base for seismic loading. In particular, a new recursive analysis method of axial deformation of rubber bearings is presented taking into account the nonlinear tensile behavior of rubber bearings and it is shown that the relaxation of the constraint on the ultimate state of the tensile stress of rubber bearings increases the limiting aspect ratio.

  • The Vortex-induced Motions (VIM) phenomenon of semi-submersibles is relevant for the fatigue life of moorings and risers. Model tests regarding the VIM behavior of a semi-submersible with four square columns were conducted in order to investigate the effects of the current incidence and the aspect ratio of the immerged column. The experimental results show that the largest transverse amplitudes are around 70% of the column width at $30^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$ incidences in a range of reduced velocities from 5 to 8 when the aspect ratio of the immerged column is 1.90. The largest yaw motion occurs at $0^{\circ}$ incidence with the peak value around $4.5^{\circ}$. Similar characteristics of the VIM response are observed for the semi-submersible with aspect ratios of 1.90 and 1.73. When the aspect ratio decreases 50% to 0.87, 30% decrease in the peak transverse amplitudes can be seen.
