The purpose of this was to examine the used of fly ash as a type of construction material. In this paper the results from a recent study on development of a cement composite utilizing relatively large amount of fly ash are presented. The flowable fly ash-cement sand composite was investigated for strength and flowability characteristics. The independent variable considered were: fly-ash content, sand content, and ratio of water to cementitious materials. Results of this study show that high volume fly-ash composite can be proportioned to obtain 10~15kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ compressive strength at 28 days. For applications requiring strength between 10kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 15kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, the mixture with fly ash-cement ratio of 5.6 and sand-cement ratio of 28 with relatively high water content may be used. Slump was held at 25$\pm$1cm for all mixtures produced compressive strength at 28 days were found to range from 5kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ to 13.7kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$.
The study evaluates properties of brick having coal ash and explores the possibility of utilization of coal bottom ash and coal fly ash as an alternative raw material in the production of coal ash bricks. Lower cement content was used in the investigations to attain appropriate strength and prohibit high carbon content that is cause of environmental pollution. The samples use up to 7% of cement whereas sand was replaced with bottom ash. Bricks were tested for compressive strength, modulus of rupture, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), water absorption and durability. The results showed mix proportions of bottom ash, fly ash and cement as 1:1:0.15 i.e., M-15 achieved optimum values. The coal ash bricks were well bonded with mortar and could be feasible alternative to conventional bricks thus can contribute towards sustainable development.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the compressive strength properties of municipal waste ash hardening using the unrefined fly-ash and paper sludge ash and to offer basic data to someone for recycling municipal waste ash. Unrefined fly-ash and paper sludge ash are used with admixture. MWA are tested that grading, specific gravity and pH value and observed microsructure of particle with SEM. The compressive strengths of MWA hardening which is mixed with regular ratio according to each admixture are measured. In the results of test, fly-ash is very effective for reducing content of cement by 50% in the recycling of MWA. But proper content mixed paper sludge ash is recommend by about 20% in binder.
The chlorine component in fly ash from municipal solid waste incineration ash was removed by water washing for the purpose of recycling fly ash as a raw material of ordinary portland cement. The samples were a different kind of 리y ashes using $Ca(OH)_2$and NaOH as media of wet scrubber for flue gas cleaning. The content of soluble salts of fly ash using $Ca(OH)_2$and NaOH was 32.8%, 50.1% and the content of chlorine component, 22.9% and 26.0% respectively, which was KCl, NaCl, CaC1OH mainly. When each fly ash was washed using water under conditions of a agitation speed of 300 rpm, a liquid to solid ratio of 10, most soluble salts in fly ash were dissolved within 30 minutes and the content of chlorine component in ash was diminished to the content of 4.4%, 2.O% at $20^{\circ}C$ and 1.7%, 0.8% at $50^{\circ}C$ respectively. And the main compound of residual chlorine component in ash after water washing was friedel`s salt ($3CaO.A1_2$$O_3$.$CaCl_2$.$10H2$O). From analysis results of water quality for wastewater by water washing, the components exceeding discharged wastewater standard were only Pb and Cd. But As pH was controlled to 10 with addition of $CO_2$(g) or $Na_2$$_CO3$in water, the concentration of heavy metals such as Pb and Cd was also under discharged wastewater standard.
To investigate the effects of reduction of leaf processing factories on the uniformity of processed leaf quality, the contents and their C.V.(Coefficient of Variation) of chemical constituents of flue-cured leaf tobacco produced from 1997 to 2001 and processed at various factories were analysed. The average leaf chemical contents of 12 grades for 5 years ranged as follows ; nicotine 2.00∼0.85%. total sugar 10.7∼16.9%, total nitrogen 2.36∼2.78%, crude ash 14.6∼15.6% and chlorine 0.50∼0.75%. The variations of chemical contents among crop years was higher in total sugar content while lower in crude ash content. The C.V. of chemical content in same grade leaves was higher in chlorine content while lower in total nitrogen and crude ash contents, and the ratio of C.V. among processing factories/C.V. in total population was higher in total sugar content while lower in crude ash content. When the leaves were processed at one factory, the deviations of chemical contents reduced considerably. Particularly, the decreasing effect of deviation was higher in total sugar content.

The purpose of this study was to research on compressibility characteristics of waste tire powder-added lightweight soil(TLS) for recycling dredged soil, bottom ash and waste tire. The TLS used in this experiment consists of dredged soil, cement, waste tire powder and bottom ash. Test specimens were prepared with various content of waste tire powder ranged from 0% to 100% at 25% intervals by the dried weight of dredged soil. Several series of one-dimensional consolidation tests were carried out. Based on the experimental results, as the waste tire powder increased, the swelling index of TLS increased. The compression index and swelling index of the TLS with bottom ash content showed lower value than without bottom ash. Then, compressibility characteristics of TLS were strongly influenced by mixing conditions of waste tire powder content and bottom ash content.
Physical and chemical properties, the salt accumulation and leaching of salt by water of coal fly ash ball (ash ball) were evaluated in comparison with perlite and granule rockwool (rockwool). Bulk density, particle density, solid phase, and porosity of ash ball were 0.93 g.cm$^{-3}$ , 2.29 g.cm$^{-3}$ , 40.6%, 59.4%, respectively. The bulk density of ash ball was greater, while porosity was smaller, than that of perlite and rockwool. Saturation moisture capacity was 52% in ash ball, 71% in perlite, and 90% in rockwool. Water contents after drainage for 1 hr of ash ball, perlite, and rockwool were 21%, 27%, and 80%, respectively. Water content of small granules (3-5 mm) of ash ball was 5% greater than that of large (7-15 mm) grannules. The ash ball was a weak alkali substrate with pH 7.6, but not electric conductivity (EC), of the nutrient solution supplied to ash ball slightly increased. When the absorption of mineral ions to substrates were analyzed, ash ball and RW absorbed mainly PO ̄$_4$. On tomato culture, salt accumulation in ash ball substrate was similar to that in perlite. Most of the salts in the ash balls were removed by submerging the substrate eight times in distilled water. It is concluded that water holding capacity of ash ball substrate was lo as compared to other substrates, but air permeability, and water diffusion was excellent, making control of medium water content easy.

The prediction model is proposed to estimate the variation of compressive strength of fly ash concrete with aging. After analyzing the experimental result with the model, the regression results are presented according to fly ash replacement content and water/cement ratio. Based on the regression results, the influence of fly ash replacement content and water/cement ratio on apparent activation energy was investigated. According to the analysis, the model provides a good estimate of compressive strength development of fly ash concrete with aging. As the fly ash replacement content increases, the limiting relative compressive strength and initial apparent activation energy become greater. The concrete with water/cement ratio smaller than 0.40 shows that the limiting relative compressive strength and apparent activation energy are nearly constant according to water/cement ratio. But, the concrete with water/cement ratio greater than 0.40 has the increasing limiting relative compressive strength and apparent activation energy with increasing water/cement ratio.

The effect of high ash coal which has relatively high ash content and low combustibility on unburned carbon and NOx emission was experimentally investigated at several excess air ratio and particle size conditions of four coals containing different ash content in a drop tube furnace. Flue gas was measured by Gas analyzer in order to figure out unburned carbon characteristics. The results show that the higher content of ash makes the higher unburned carbon rate, subsequent changes in NOx emission characteristics was investigated.

Recently, the production of circulating fluidized bed combustion ash has been increased in thermal power plants. The addition of limestone for the desulfurizing effect of circulating fluidized bed boiler ash increases the content of CaO and $SO_3$ contained in ash, which is higher than the free fly ash in general fly ash. Unlike conventional fly ash, the circulating fluidized bed combustion ash has a high reactivity when it comes into contact with water due to its hydraulic properties and high free-CaO content. The aim of this study is to investigate the possibility of non-sintered binder by using self-cementing properties of circulating fluidized bed combustion ash. The mechanical and hydration characteristics were investigated according to the content of CFBC ash. In addition, the effects of gymsum type and content on the compressive strength and micro-structure of non-sintered binder pastes.
