Heuristic for the Simultaneous Target Allocation and Fire Sequencing Problem (표적 할당과 사격 순서의 동시 결정 문제를 위한 발견적 기법)

  • In this study the artillery fire system is investigated in consideration of the characteristics of the troop and the target. Two kinds of decision are to be made on the target allocation with fire ammunition and the fire sequencing for the target with duties in charge. The objective is to minimize the completion time for all troops. Each target has the specified amount of load of fire, which can be accomplished by a single troop or the combination of the troops having different capabilities. Mathematical model is suggested, and the heuristic algorithm which yields a solution within a reasonable computation time is developed. The algorithm consists of iterative three steps : the initial solution generation, the division improvement, and the exchange improvement. The performance of the heuristic is evaluated through the computational experiment

  • This paper aims to formulate the method of estimating the wartime stockpile requirement of 155mm self-propelled artillery including intelligent ammunition for armored vehicles, currently being developed. The usual method of utilizing war-game simulation results in considerable margins in expected occupancy ratio between ground forces and air forces for each weapon system for armored vehicles. Also, the method tends to produce excessive output greater than the minimal stockpile requirements; therefore, the study aims to overcome limitations like these by the allocation method for each weapon system according to targets. This allocation method is better than war-game simulation method.

Study on the Method to Improve a Maritime Safety by Analysing the Distribution Characteristics of the Ships on Marine Firing Range (해상사격장 선박분포 특성 분석을 통한 해상안전 개선방안에 대한 연구)

  • Ahn-heung Proving Ground(APG) of Agency for Defense Development(ADD) is the only weapon test site which has been performing firing tests for many kinds of missile, artillery and ammunition. APG has been performing the firing tests of so many times every year. The tests related to missiles, artillery and ammunitions cover 80% among the quantity of annual test events. The target area of many kinds of missile, artillery and ammunition is on the sea. Therefore, APG has its marine firing ranges which were approved by the ministry of Defense. Both weapons and ships can run into each other on the sea. APG has to monitor and detect the positions of the ships in the specific dangerous zone on the sea. The positions of the ships are detected by Scanter 2001 radar and GPS100 detection radar. Evading the time period when the ships appear very often on the sea may be a good solution to keep the maritime safety. And evading the place where the ships appear very often on the sea may be a good solution as well. This paper is to analyze the ships' distribution characteristics of marine firing range, which are to raise the efficiency of many kinds firing tests which have been performed in APG of ADD. Ship distribution data from February 2014 to December 2016 were used in this paper. Ship distribution was analyzed with monthly data, seasonal data and etc. The number of the ships in approved sea area is higher in the morning than in the afternoon, and in fall than other seasons, and from August to November, and below 0.5 m in the hight of wave. Using the these conditions, we can raise the test efficiency of many kinds firing tests and guarantee maritime safety. The number of the ships in approved sea area is entirely unrelated to visibility of the sea. The time period when the number of the ships are high on the sea is morning. The season when the number of the ships are comparatively high on the sea is fall. APG of ADD could raise the efficiency of the firing tests and improve the maritime safety, using the analysis results of the characteristics on the ship distribution.

Simplified Parametric Study on M125 Booster Mechanism and its Application for Determining the Characteristic Constant of Arming Distance (M125 부스터 메카니즘의 해석 및 응용)

  • M125 booster is one of the reliable S&A device(safety and arming device) to determine the arming distance of fuze for gun ammunitions from 90 mm to 8 inch in diameter. And it is also well known that the arming distance of M125 booster is determined by the multiplication value of the gun tube property(traveled distance per turn of projectile) and the S&A device property(number of turns to arm), not by the projectile muzzle velocity. We have tried and succeeded in executing a proper analysis on M125 booster to figure out its characteristic constant of arming distance by considering only the gun tube properties and the S&A device properties. More detailed arming distance will be analyzed in the future by considering dynamic characteristics on all elements in the S&A device with vector analysis.

The Study on Design of Circuit Card Assembly on Servo Control Unit for Automated Resupply Vehicle K56 (K56 탄약운반장갑차용 서보제어기의 회로카드조립체 설계에 관한 연구)

  • This paper describes the design of the circuit card assembly to eliminate the communication error on a servo control unit installed in the automated resupply vehicle K56. K56 is a weapon system that automates the supply and loading of ammunition on the K-55A1 self-propelled artillery. As the core item responsible for ammunition movement control, the servo control unit is required to have good communication stability and reliability, but the conventional unit has recognized a problem that communication error intermittently occurs, resulting in an emergency stop phenomenon. We analyzed the communication signal of the servo control unit and identified the failure cause of the circuit card assembly to solve this problem. In addition, the signal interference in data/address line of the circuit card assembly was confirmed through analysis of the failure cause, and redesigned to avoid the interference, such as adjustment of the distance between communication lines and position change. Finally, the proposed cause analysis and redesign were verified through the component of servo control unit and attachment test on K56. We expected these study results to be used as reference for the design of other similar items.

Airspeed Estimation of Course Correction Munitions by Using Extended Kalman Filter (확장 칼만필터를 이용한 탄도수정탄의 대기속도 추정)

  • This paper represents a filter design to estimate the airspeed of a spin-stabilized, trajectory-correctible artillery ammunition. Due to the limited power and space in operational point of view, the airspeed sensor is not installed, and thus the airspeed need to be estimated using limited sensor measurements. The only IMU measurements(three-axis specific forces and angular rates) are used in this application. The extended Kalman filter algorithm is applied since a linear filter can not cover the its wide operational range in airspeed and altitude. In the implementation of the EKF, the state and measurement equations are transformed into the no-roll frame for simple form of Jacobian matrix. The simulation study is conducted to evaluate the performance of the filter under various environment conditions of sensor noise and wind turbulence. In addition, the effect of the choice in filter design parameters, i.e. process error covariance matrices is analyzed on the performance of the estimation of airspeed and angular rates.

Electromagnetic Pulse Shielding Effectiveness and Construction Availability of Cast-In-Place Structures Using Corrugated Metal-Plates

  • This study aims to examine the effectiveness of electromagnetic pulse shielding in cast-in-place protective shelters using corrugated metal-plates, and then reviews their usability for the Republic of Korea Army. The Korea Corps of Engineering has evaluated corrugated metal-plates as a construction material for cast-in-place structures, which have to defend against mechanical impacts as well as electromagnetic pulses. Corrugated metal-plate is known as a superb mechanical protective material, so much so that it has been employed in ammunition magazines and artillery platforms in the armed forces. Moreover, as a metal, such as steel and copper, it is universally recognized as one of the most effective electromagnetic pulse shielding materials. In addition to effectively shielding from electromagnetic pulses and protecting against mechanical impacts, corrugated metal-plates should prove to be an appropriate construction material for the cast-in-place protective shelter in terms of construction availability and economic feasibility. The shielding effectiveness of the suggested structures is examined based on MIL-STD 188-125-1. A few frequency bands need an increase of 15~30dB in shielding effectiveness because of unbidden apertures caused by flaws associated with welding, assembling, and material deformation. However, allowing for the approximately 40dB of shielding provided by soil; the examined structure, which is buried underground, can offset its shortcomings sufficiently.
