  • In modern society, people live in an environment with artificial or natural noise. Especially, the sound that corresponds to the artificial noise makes the noise itself and affects each other because many people live and work in the city. Sounds are generated by the activities and causes of various people, such as construction sites, aircraft, production machinery, or road traffic. These sounds are essential elements in human life and are recognized and judged by human auditory organs. Noise is a sound that you do not want to hear by subjective evaluation, and it is a loud sound that gives hearing damage or a sound that causes physical and mental harm. In this study, we introduce the method of stimulating the human hearing by finger vibration and explain the advantages of the proposed method in various kinds of a noise environment. And how to improve the sound quality to improve efficiency. In this paper, we propose a method to prevent the loss of hearing loss and the transmission of sound information based on proper signal to noise ratio when using portable IT equipment in various noise environments.

  • TFT-LCD panel images have non-uniform brightness, noise signal and defect signal. It is hard to divide defect signal because of non-uniform brightness and noise signal, so various divide methods have being developed. In this paper, we suggest method to divide defective regions on TFT-LCD panel image by estimating a menas of two different size of windows, which is suggested by Eikvil et al., and using difference of them. But in this method, the size of detectable defects is restricted by the size of window, hence it has inefficient problem that the size of window have to increase to divide a large defect region. To solve this problem we suggest an algorithm which can divide various size of defects, by using Multi-scale and restrict a detectable size of defects in each scale. To prove an efficiency of suggested algorithm, we show that resulting images of real TFT-LCD panel images and an artificial image with various defects.

  • Purpose: In this study, the defect quantification of thin metal plate was evaluated by using lock-in infrared thermography. Methods: A STS304 standard specimens, which had the artificial-defects of different size, were used. The focal distance between the infrared camera and the specimen was set to 500mm, and the distance between the lump and the specimen was set to 200mm. One halogen lamp with a maximum capacity of 1kW was used, and phase-lock infrared thermal images with a frequency of 1Hz were captured and analyzed. Result: Objectively quantified data values were obtained by analyzing the contrast ratio and signal-to-noise ratio. Conclusion: The possibility of defect diagnosis for thin metal plate was confirmed by using the lock-in infrared thermography technique.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this research is to improve the reliability of the composite material blades used for the wind power generator, by applying the phased array ultrasonic testing technique out of the many nondestructive test into the blades. Method: The wind power generation composite blades are used, as a case study, in order to evaluate the reliability of the phased array ultrasonic testing technique. Defects that are most likely occurred in the field are injected into the different locations of the three different types of artificial test pieces and then phased array ultrasonic testing technique are applied to evaluate the reliability of its effectiveness. Result: As a result of the analysis of the defect signals by applying the A scan and B scan simultaneously, depth and width of the defect could be obtained. An area of defect was proportional to the amount of energy by color in B scan image. The larger amount of energy, reflected amount of energy was appeared in the order of red, orange, yellow, blue color. Conclusion: The most reliable testing method to detect the defect in composite blades for wind power generation is considered to be the combination of the other destructive testing technique with the phased array ultrasonic testing since the PAUT alone could not detect all range of the defects in the blades.

  • Infantile lobar emphysema is an uncommon disease affecting newborns and infants with varying degree of respiratory distress, lobar overaeration, mediastinal shift and herniation. Although the etiology of the condition is most commonly idiopathic, there is a clear association with congenital heart disease, particularly in the presence of pulmonary hypertension due to left to right shunt. Sites of predilection are the left main bronchus, the left upper and right middle bronchi. This report describes a two-week-old boy who had right middle lobe emphysema with large ventricular septal defect. At first, patch closure of perimembranous ventricular septal defect was performed. Postoperatively, the patient required continuing assisted ventilation and the lobar emphysema was not improve. One week following the initial operation, right middle lobectomy was successfully performed and the patient was weaned from artificial ventilator on the 5th postoperative day. The patient was discharged with good general condition on the 45th postoperative day.

  • Bacterial endocarditis has been well recognized as an important complication of congenital heart disease, such as ventricular septal defect, patent ductus arteriosus or pulmonary stenosis. The incidence of right sided bacterial endocarditis is lesser than left sided bacterial endocarditis. Also, pulmonic valve vegetation has been thought to be relatively uncommon. And pulmonary embolism is common in the patients with right sided bacterial endocarditis. So in a patient with fever and evidence of recurrent pulmonary infarction, changing heart murmurs and scattered pneumonic infiltrates, one should direct attention to the heart as a possible source of the infection. Echocardiography with M-mode, 2-D and Doppler mode represents the only noninvasive technic available for detecting vegetations in bacterial endocarditis. In fact, the technic is more sensitive in identifying these lesions than angiography. We experienced a case of ventricular septal defect with bacterial endocarditis, pulmonic valve vegetation and multiple pulmonary embolism diagnosed with Echocardiogram and lung scan, and confirmed by operation. Patch repair of ventricular septal defect, resection of pulmonic valve and vegetation and artificial valve formation with pericardium were done.

  • Rollers in the continuous process systems are ones of key components that determine the quality of web products. The condition of rollers (e.g. eccentricity, runout) should be consistently monitored in order to maintain the process conditions (e.g. tension, edge position) within a required specification. In this paper, a new diagnosis algorithm is suggested to detect the defective rollers based on the frequency analysis of web tension signals. The kernel of this technique is to use the characteristic features (RMS, Peak value, Power spectral density) of tension signals which allow the identification of the faulty rollers and the diagnosis of the degree of fault in the rollers. The characteristic features could be used to train an artificial neural network which could classify roller conditions into three groups (normal, warning, and faulty conditions) The simulation and experimental results showed that the suggested diagnosis algorithm can be successfully used to identify the defective rollers as well as to diagnose the degree of the defect of those rollers.

  • Recently, Korean shipbuilding industry is keeping up the position of world wide No. 1 in world shipbuilding market share. It is caused by endless efforts to develope new technologies and methods and fast development of IT technologies in Korea, to raise up its productivities and efficiency in shipbuilding industry with many kinds of optimizing methods including genetic algorithm or artificial life algorithm... etc. In this paper, we have suggested the artificial life algorithm with relay search micro genetic algorithm. and we have improved a defect of simple genetic algorithm for its slow convergence speed and added a variety of solution candidates with applying relay search simple genetic algorithm. Finally, we have developed intelligent agent system for ship CAE modeling. We have tried to offer some conveniences a ship engineer for repeated ship CAE modeling by changing ship design repeatedly and to increase its accuracy of a ship model with it.

  • In this study, we developed the biometric ultrasound transducer, residual thickness measurement algorithm and optimized ultrasound operation methods to diagnose precise conditions of implanted medical prosthetic material inserted during total hip artificial joint replacement. In detail, ultrasound transducers having 8 MHz and 20 MHz center frequencies with similar sensitivity and bandwidth were fabricated to measure various thicknesses of commercial polyethylene-based artificial hip liners, resulting in a comparative analysis of signal-to-noise ratio and axial resolution to conduct an optimization study of ultrasound operations in vivo.
