비생물 및 생물 요인에 기초한 통합적 하천자연도 평가기법에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Integrated Stream Naturalness Assessment Based on Abiotic and Biotic Factors)

  • Integrated stream naturalness based on abiotic and biotic factors were developed. Abiotic factors considered in this study were types of land use in the riparian area, river bank and high water bed streamside, revetment, bed substrate and artificial construction of streamside. Biotic factors included types of vegetation, assemblages of fish, macroinvertebrate, bird and mammal(Otter) in streams. The presence/absence of legal species and biological assessment index were also weighted as important parameters in this study. Scoring criteria selected for each matrix was five rating system; 1=poor, 2=moderate, 3=fair, 4=good, 5=excellent. Numerical ratings for the matrix were then summed. This resulted in a minimum score of 13 if all matrix at a site were poor, and a maximum score of 65 if all matrix were excellent. Five grade system from poor(I) to excellent condition(V) was employed. To verify its validity in natural environment, the evaluation system was applied to the Gapchun stream which is a test bed selected. Our result showed that stream naturalness of each reach was clearly distinguished by biotic and abiotic characteristics. Determination of correlation coefficient between abiotic and biotic factors was also high ($R^2=0.96$, p<0.05). In conclusion, assessment for stream naturalness reflecting abiotic and biotic factors was useful method representing stream integrated.

  • This paper presents a high-performance flexible tactile sensor based on inorganic silicon flexible electronics. We created 100 nm-thick semiconducting silicon ribbons equally distributed with 1 mm spacing and $8{\times}8$ arrays to sense the pressure distribution with high-sensitivity and repeatability. The organic silicon rubber substrate was used as a spring material to achieve both of mechanical flexibility and robustness. A thin copper layer was deposited and patterned on top of the pressure sensing layer to create a flexible temperature sensing layer. The fabricated tactile sensor was tested through a series of experiments. The results showed that the tactile sensor is capable of measuring pressure and temperature simultaneously and independently with high precision.

Nitrogen Removal from Wastewaters by Microalgae Without Consuming Organic Carbon Sources

  • The possibility of microalgal nitrogen treatment was tested in wastewaters with a low carbon/nitrogen (C/N) ratio. Chlorella kessleri was cultured in the two different artificial wastewaters with nitrate as a nitrogen source: one contained glucose for an organic carbon source and the other without organic carbon sources. The growth rates of the two cultures were almost identical when the aeration rate was over 1 vvm. These results suggest that microalgae could successfully remove nitrogen from wastewater, as far as the mass transfer of $CO_2$, was not limited. Nitrate was successfully reduced to below 2 mg $NO_3^-$-N/ml from the initial nitrate concentration of 140 mg $NO_3^-$-N/ml in 10 days, even in the wastewater with no organic carbon source. Similar results were obtained when ammonium was used as the sole nitrogen source instead of nitrate. Higher concentrations of nitrogen of 140, 280, 560 and 1,400 mg/ml were also tested and similar amounts of nitrogen were removed by algal cultures without showing any substrate inhibition.

Purification and Characterization of Streptomyces griseus Trypsin Overexpressed in Streptomyces lividans

  • Streptomyces griseus trypsin (SGT) is an extracellular proteinase produced by S. griseus. The sprT gene, which encodes premature SGT protein, was cloned into the plasmid pWHM3, a Streptomyces-E. coli shuttle vector. When the recombinant plasmid was introduced into Streptomyces lividans TK24, two proteins with molecular weights of 28 kDa and 42 kDa were detected. The 28-kDa protein was a SGT protein while the larger 42-kDa protein is thought to have been a premature form of the SGT protein. The SGT protein was purified to homogeneity via ammonium sulfate fractionation and many column chromatographies, including CM -sepharose chromatography, Mono-S chromatography, and Superose-12 chromatography, from the culture broth of S. lividans TK24 harboring the sprT gene. The N-terminal amino acid sequence, isoelectric points, and stabilities at various conditions of the SGT proteins purified from the Pronase and transformant were almost identical. The amount of the expressed SGT in S. lividans TK 24 was determined to be 5 times more than that of S. griseus based on the enzymatic activity against artificial substrate.

The Effect of Cr Dosage on FePt Nanoparticle Formation

  • The search for high-density recording materials has been one of most active and vigorous field in the field of magnetism. $FePt-L1_{0}$ nanoparticle has emerged as a potential candidate because of its high anisotropy. In this paper, we provide an overview of recent work at Argonne National Laboratory that contributes to the ongoing dialogue concerning the relation between structure and properties of the FePt nanoparticle system. In particular we discuss the ability to control structure and properties via dosing with Cr. Cr-dosed FePt films were grown via molecular beam epitaxy and annealed at $550^{\circ}C$ in an ultrahigh vacuum chamber, and were studied with the surface magneto-optic Kerr effect (SMOKE), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD). We found that small dosage of Cr helps to generate $L1_{0}$ phase FePt magnetic nanoparticles with small size, defined shape and regular spatial distribution on MgO (001) substrate. The nanostructures are ferromagnetic with high magnetic coercivity (${\sim}0.9T$) and magnetic easy axis in the desired out-of-plane orientation. We also show that controlling the lateral region where nanostructures exist is possible via artificial patterning with Cr.

  • 등가회로 모델을 바탕으로 Jerusalem AMC의 대역폭에 대하여 살펴보았다. 등가회로 모델과 어드미턴스 기울기 (Y')를 이용하여 다양한 파라미터의 변화에 따른 대역폭을 분석하였다. 기판의 두께 및 투자율은 대역폭을 향상시키는 반면, FSS grid의 부하(loading)에 의해 대역폭은 감소한다. FSS의 두 부하 중에서, 커패시터 부하가 인덕터 부하에 비해 대역폭 특성이 더 우수한 특성을 가진다. 인덕터 부하에 따른 대역폭 감소를 완화하기 위해 단일편파 특성을 가지는 AMC를 제안하였다.

Mechanical Behaviour of Non-Oxide Boride Type Ceramics Formed on The AISI 1040 Plain Carbon Steel

  • A series experiments were performed to evaluate mechanical behavior of non-oxide boride type ceramics formed on the AISI 1040 plain carbon steel. Boronizing was performed in a slurry salt bath consisting of borax, boric acid, and ferro-silicon at $950^{\circ}C$ for 2-6h. The AISI 1040 steel used as substrate material was containing 0.4%C, 0.13%Si, 0.65%Mn, 0.02%P, 0.014%S. The presence of non-oxide boride type ceramics $Fe_2B $ and FeB formed on the surface of steel was confirmed by metallographic technique and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The hardness of borides measured via Vickers indenter with a load of 2N reached a microhardness of up to 1800 DPN. The hardness of unborided steel was 185 DPN. The fracture toughness of borides measured by means of Vickers indenter with a load of 10N was about 2.30 MPa.$m^{1/2}$. The thickness of boride layers ranged from 72$\mu\textrm{m}$ to 145$\mu\textrm{m}$. Boride layers have a columnar morphology.

  • The artificial construction of well-defined low-dimensional (low-D) quantum structures, such as quantum wire (QWR) still attracts attention of many researchers due to their applications in room-temperature optoelectronic devices. In this work, the migration enhanced epitaxial growth (MEE) and the analysis of InAs/ AlAs QWR are reported. On the vicinal semi-insulating InP substrate of $3^o$ tilted cut from (100) surface towards (010) direction, InAs/ AlAs QWR superlattices have been successfully grown by MEE with the introduction of growth interruption at each shutter operation of MBE cell. The in-situ RHEED analyses show that MEE gives superior step-flow growth (SFG) and sharper interface formation over a conventional MBE growth. We have grown 4 samples in series varying the growth temperature. The QWR samples are analyzed by photoluminescence (PL) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). From the AFM images, we can get the definitely resolved 1-D structures. This structure is believed to be due to the MEE method and its separation is better than any other data from others. We are now studying the dependence of the structure on the growth temperature.

해중림 조성을 위한 괭생이모자반(Sargassum horneri) 유체의 이식 (Transplantation of Young Fronds of Sargassum horneri for Construction of Seaweed Beds)

  • Transplantation of Sargassum horneri to natural substrate using the rope seeding method was undertaken. Seeding of S. horneri was grown on net in an indoor tank up to 0.2-0.3 cm in frond length for 2 months, and then transplanted to an architecture tile $(10\times10\;cm)$ with underwater glue and an iron pipe. After two months, number of S. horneri on the tile decreased because of grazing by herbivores. However, S. horneri on the iron pipe grew up to 0.5-2.0 cm in frond length. After 7 months, they rapidly grew up to a frond length of 11.0-203.0 cm with a mean frond length of 122.6 cm. S. horneri grew up to a maximum frond length of 313.0 cm, and mean frond length of 228.0 cm, after 10 months. The artificial S. hornevi beds can be used to clean the seawater and also be utilized as a source of marine biomass as well as for supplying habitat, shelter and spawning beds for fish and invertebrates.

나노 인덴테이션 실험과 유한요소해석을 이용한 전기아연도금강판의 코팅층 체적 거동 결정 (Determination of Deformation Behavior of Coating Layer on Electronic galvanized Sheet Steel using Nano-indentation and FEM)

  • This study was designed to investigate the mechanical properties of the coating layer on electronic galvanized sheet steel as a part of the ongoing research on the coated steel. Those properties were determined using nano-indentation, the finite element method, and artificial neural networks. First and foremost, the load-displacement curve (the loading-unloading curve) of coatings was derived from a nano-indentation test by CSM (continuous stiffness measurement) and was used to measure the elastic modulus and hardness of the coating layer. The properties derived were applied in FE simulations of a nano-indentation test, and the analytical results were compared with the experimental result. A numerical model for FE simulations was established for the coating layer and the substrate separately. Finally, to determine the mechanical properties of the coating, such as the stress-strain curve, functional equations of loading and unloading curves were introduced and computed using the neural networks method. The results show errors within $5\%$ in comparison with the load-displacement measured by a nano-indentation test.
