  • For developing a wireless implantable device to monitoring the artery variation in real-time. The concept of a special vessel variation measurement capacitive sensor is presented in this paper. The sensor consists of two part; main sensor to measuring the arterial variation, and reference sensor is used to improve the accuracy of the capacitance value variation. Before sensor manufacture, a model of the sensor attached on the artery was designed in 3D to conduct in the FEA simulation to validate the validity and feasibility of the idea. The artery model was designed as layered structures and made of collagenous soft tissues with intima inside, followed by the media and the adventitia. Also, a grease layer was designed in the inner of the arterial wall to imitate the clogged arteries. The simulation was divided into two parts; sensor performance test by changing the diameter of the grease layer, and arterial wall tension test by changing the blood pressure. As the simulation results, the capacitance value measured by the proposed sensor is decreased follow the diameter of the grease increased. Also, large elastic deformation of the arterial wall since changing the blood pressure has been observed.

  • In this paper, we implement the photoplethysmo-graphy system that have three channel pulse wave detects and one channel ECG amplifier. In order to detect the artery state, we measured the pulse waves at different positions, simultaneously. In general, arterial vascular system suffers the decrease of compliance, increase of resistance, and decrease of distensibility through aging. Therefore, we compared and analyzed variation of tile Pulse waves parameter both in time and frequency domains that is concerned with the changes of arterial characteries. And then evaluated the correlation coefficients between the parameters variation and the age group. As the result of experiment, we found that the Parameters have a significant correlation about aging.

  • In this study, detection system of the blood flow variation rate was implemented using the variation effect of bio electric impedance at time of the blood pressure measurement by means of impedance method. The blood pressure measurement was performed by the oscillometric method. The mean arterial pressure was calculated using maximum amplitude algorithm. The systolic and diastolic pressure were estimated by establishment of the various characteristic ratio according to mean arterial pressure range. Alternative static current source and lock_in amplifier were introduced to impedance measurement. The variation of blood volume was measured using variation bio impedance according to induced cuff pressure at measuring area.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel sensor system for measuring the arterial pulse in an oral cavity. In order to measure pulse wave in oral cavity, the proposed system is designed with reflection type arterial wave sensor, not by using transmission type arterial pulse wave sensor. Driving circuit through pulse current is designed for solving self-heating problem of LED. The effectiveness of the proposed sensor system is compared with pulse wave between pulse wave of oral cavity and other body parts as well as with characteristic measurements. The experiment shows that the proposed sensor system is adaptive to capturing consecutive and meaningful biometric signals through the variation of pulse wave changes in oral cavity when exercising. The study result expects to design and develop mobile sensors which could be adapted to healthcare devices.

  • In this study, we measured the blood flow on arm by non-invasive method and implemented a system to measure variation of the blood flow by estimating bio-electrical impedance and arterial pressure according to cuff pressure. The implemented system measured impedance variation according to pressure variation applied by artificial cuff pressure on the measuring position. The system consisted of pressure measuring part and impedance measuring part using 4-electrode method. Pressure measuring part was composed of semiconductor pressure sensor and electronic circuit for signal processing of sensor output signal. In addition, impedance measuring part was composed of constant current source circuit and lock-in amplifier for detecting impedance signal. We conducted experiments of impedance measuring part using standard resistance for performance evaluation of the implemented system. In addition we experimented to estimate variation of the blood flow by measuring impedances of the experimental group. We estimated ratio of the blood flow resistance using mean arterial pressure and variation of the blood flow. As a result the ratio of the blood flow resistance and variation of blood flow were in an inverse relationship with each other and the correlation coefficient was -0.96776.

  • Purpose: The latissimus dorsi flap and the serratus anterior flap have been used as combined flaps to reconstruct extensive defects. Because these two muscles are usually supplied by the subscapular-thoracodorsal vessels, the two flaps can be based on vascular pedicle that is long and anatomically reliable. In this case, we reported that serratus anterior possessed an anomalous arterial supply totally independent from the subscapular pedicle while raising combined latissimus dorsi and serratus anterior flap. Methods: A 35-year-old male with extensive soft tissue defect in the left perineum and thigh visited. Muscle defects of the medial thigh were observed, and femoral nerve and vessels were exposed. Combined latissimus dorsi and serratus anterior free flap was raised to reconstruct defect. On raising flaps, artery supplying the serratus anterior muscle originated from the axillary artery directly, was lying on the undersurface of the serratus anterior muscle. Results: Because two flap pedicles had no communication and latissimus dorsi muscle was large enough to cover soft tissue defect, we transferred only latissimus dorsi free flap with 1 : 3 meshed skin graft. Patient had limb salvage and satisfactory functional outcome. Conclusion: There are many variations of arterial pedicles of flaps. However, most of these variations remain within known anatomical consistence, thus is an indicator in planning the dissection of the vessels. According to documents, arterial pedicle to the serratus muscle not originated from the thoracodorsal artery is rarely reported, and in most of these cases, the arteries are originated from the subscapular artery. Thus pedicle directly originated from the axillary artery to serratus muscle is a very rare variation in its vascular anatomy.

  • This study was performed to establish the process mean which is statistically satisfying the critical limit of deformation strength $(S_D)$, which is found to reflect rutting characteristics of asphalt mixture relatively well. The process means were determined using the critical $S_D$ values (3MPa for local highway and 4MPa for arterial highways), which were obtained from correlation analysis of APA and $S_D$ test data of actual highway projects, and coefficient of variation of 32 combinations of domestic mixtures. The process means of 3.2 MPa for local highway and 4.25 MPa for arterial highways were suggested when using 3 specimens (diameter of 100mm). However, since these values are based on the loading speed of 30mm/min, the higher values, 3.5 MPa for local highway and 4.5 MPa for arterial highways, were suggested, respectively, if the loading speed of 50mm/min is applied using the old Marshall machine, which should give higher test values.

  • Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) due to ruptured posterior cerebral artery (PCA) intracranial arterial dolichoectasia (IADE) is very rare. As these lesions are difficult to treat microsurgically, neurointervention is preferred because the dolichoectatic artery does not have a clear neck, and the surgical field of view was deep seated with the SAH. However, in some cases, neurointervention is difficult due to anatomical variation of the blood vessel to access the lesion. In this case, a 30-year-old male patient presented with a ruptured PCA IADE and an aortic arch anomaly. Aortic arch anomalies render it difficult to reach the ruptured PCA IADE via endovascular treatment. The orifice of the vertebral artery (VA) was different from the usual cases, so it was difficult to find the entrance. After only finding the VA and arriving at the lesion along the VA, trapping was performed. Herein, we report the PCA IADE with aortic arch anomaly endovascular treatment methods and results.

  • This study was performed to examine the visualization and anatomical variants of the hepatic artery with dual-phase computed tomography (CT) angiography and three-dimensional volume rendering imaging analysis in clinically normal dogs. Seven healthy beagle dogs were enrolled and underwent dual CT angiography. Arterial phase images could be obtained with multi-detector CT angiography using the fixed-scan method in these dogs. Contrast enhancement of the hepatic parenchyma was quite minimal because of the unique blood supply system of the liver. In most dogs, the main hepatic arterial branches were the right lateral branch, left branch, and right medial branch. Although hepatic arterial variation appears to be common in dogs, only one dog in this study had the caudate lobar branch as the first branch of the hepatic artery. Further study on a larger number of dogs with CT images will be needed to identify and classify the pattern of hepatic arterial variations.

  • It has been known that latissimus dorsi(LD) myocutaneous flap based on thoracodorsal artery is one of most useful method for microreconstructive surgery and the thoracodorsal artery of this flap has constant vascular anatomy. The retrospective study for anatomy of the thoracodorsal arterial system was performed at operative cases. The aim of this study was to document the anatomical variation of this pedicle clinically. 167 LD flaps were carried out from 1983 to 2002 in our clinic. We found unusual 7(4.2%) cases compared to standard textbooks of anatomy. One case was no vascular supply to LD muscle. In 2(1.2%) cases thoracodorsal artery was a typical branch of the subscapular artery but didn't branch to LD muscle, passed to lower serratus anterior muscle, and at this point, supplied vessel to LD muscle and it's vascular diameter was about 1mm diameter. The thoracodorsal artery arose from the axillary artery in 1.8% of cases(3 cases). One case had less than 1mm vascular diameter but a branch of subscapluar artery. It should be emphasized that we must elevate the latissimus dorsi flap after accurate cognition for the anatomy of thoracodorsal artery because the thoracodorsal arterial system is almost reliable but not uniform in rare cases.
