  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of dietary supplementation of paprika powder as carotenoid source with three different zooplankton on carotenoid deposition and skin pigmentation of rose bitterling Rhodeus ocellatus. Two replicate groups of fish (initial average weight 0.8 g) were fed the five experimental diets containing 5% paprika (P5) and mixture of 5% paprika with 3% three zooplankton of water flea Moina macrocopa (P5M3), Artemia nauplius Artemia sp. (P5A3) and rotifer Brachionus plicatilis (P5R3) and without supplementation of carotenoid source (Con) for 10 weeks. Survival of fish among the treatments was not affected by dietary supplementation. Total carotenoid contents of whole body in fish fed the diets containing 3% zooplankton was higher than that of fish fed other diets. Especially, the highest total carotenoid contents of whole body was observed in fish fed the P5A3 diet. Similarity, Lightness, $a^*$ and $b^*$ values of the fish fed the diets containing 3% zooplankton tended to be higher than that in fish fed control and P5 diets. The apparent color intensity of skin and fin in fish fed the diets containing paprika with Artemia nauplius and rotifer was better than those of fish fed other diets. The results of this study suggest that dietary supplementation of paprika with Artemia nauplius and rotifer can improve skin pigmentation of rose bitterling.

  • For the effective seedling production of the sweetfish, Plecoglossus altivelis, dietary value of live food in the growth and survival rate of the larvae was examined. To investigate dietary value of three types of rotifers (L-type, S-type, Us-type rotifer) for the sweetfish larvae, the larvae were fed with alone or mixed with each type and with mixtures of two or three types. Although the survival rates of the larvae fed different types of rotifers were not significantly different among them, the larvae fed a mixture of three types of rotifers showed the highest growth significantly. A feeding trial was conducted to determine the effect of the dietary values of rotifer and Artemia nauplius enriched with Chlorella ellipsoidea, $\omega-yeast$, spray-dried Spirulina platensis, and Super Selco for the sweetfish larvae. The dietary values of rotifer and Artemia nauplius enriched with Super Selco mixed with spray-dried S. platens is were distinctly improved for the survival rate and growth of the larvae. With regard to effect of the green water with Chlorella ellipsoidea, spray-dried Spirulina platensis, and the addition of photosynthetic bacteria (Rhodopseudomonas capsulatus), the green water with Spirulina platens is mixed with photosynthetic bacteria also enhanced the growth and survival rate of the larvae.

  • Microalgae are widely used for mass culture of the rotifer Brachionus plicatilis in aquaculture. Since the nutritional value of the rotifer is closely related to its food, the nutritional value of its food should be known in detail. Chlorella ellipsoidea and Nannochloris oculata are representative food organisms for rotifers that are easily cultured. Therefore, the nutritional values of these micro algae were examined for ultrasmall, small, and large rotifers and Artemia nauplii. Chlorella ellipsoidea contained seven times more total fatty acids than N. oculata. The three types of rotifer fed N. oculata contained more amino acids than those fed C. ellipsoidea. However, the total fatty acids of the rotifers fed each microalga species differed according to the type of rotifer. Newly hatched Artemia nauplii contained more protein and had a higher dry weight than those fed microalgae for 6 h. As with the rotifers, the Artemia nauplii fed N. oculata contained more protein and amino acids than those fed C. ellipsoidea, while the reverse was true for the total fatty acid content. Our results suggest that N. oculata is a good supply of protein, while C. ellipsoidea is a good source of lipids as food organisms for rotifers and Artemia nauplii in aquaculture.

The anxiety which has an influence on the ecology world in the water with this can be generated, so I'd have to study the potential danger a nanoparticle has continuously.

  • Artemia often observed as a co-existing organism in the mass culture tank of marine rotifer. The rotifer and Atremia are commonly used as food organisms in the marine fish larvae rearing. In this study, interspecific relation between the rotifer Brachionus rotundiformis (formely called S-type) and anostracan Artemia of the two developmental stages (0 and 19 day old after hatching) were investigated in the larboratory. The population growth of B. rotundiformis and one of the stage (nauplius or adult) of Artemia in mixed culture was compared with that of each single species culture. Culture period was 16 days. Every two days, the number of organisms in each species was counted and transferred to a fresh medium containing $7{\times}10^5$cells/ml of food Nannochloropsis oculata. Culture volume, temperature, salinity and photoperiod were set at 40ml, $25^{\circ}C.$, 22ppt and 24h all dark except to observation time, respectively. The rotifer population growth was greatly decreased by co-existence with Artemia. The coexisting Artemia suppressed the rotifer population growth due to it's high filtering speed for food (N. oculata). This study suggested that contamination by Artemia must be prevented for the stable rotifer production in the rotifer mass culture tank.

  • This study investigated the food value of Paracyclopina nana for flounder Paralichthys olivaceus larvae in two feeding stages, rotifer (for 12 days) and Artemia (for 16 days). In the rotifer feeding stage, survival and growth of flounder larvae in the only P. nana (nauplii) feeding experiment were higher than in the only rotifer feeding experiment on 12 DAH (days after hatching). In the Artemia feeding stage, the growth of flounder larvae in the only P. nana (C4-adult) feeding experiment and mixture feeding experiment (P. nana+Artemia) were higher than in other experiments on 30 DAH, but the survival of flounder larvae did not differ significantly among experiments. The n-3 HUFA contents of nauplius and C4-adult were 4.0% and 5.4%, respectively. Overall the results of this study indicate that the brackish water cyclopoid copepod, P. nana, is an effective live food organism for larval seedling production of marine fish.
