  • Art Museum Archives are archives that are created by individuals and organizations that have a sufficient worth that necessitate permanent preservation. Art Museum Archives, which include various medium and types, are archives that have information and evidence based value, and are established and supported for the research of the Art Museum and Art History. For the systematic implementation and application of an Art Museum Archive, there is a need to establish related description elements, and through this not only must information on the individual archives be provided, but through a high utility finding aid, the creation context of the archived document should be provided so that users of the archive can easily access documents. In the case of Korean Art Museum Archives, there is a tendency to focus on the fragmented informational value of an individual archive document, which in reality causes the structural and contextual element characteristic of the document to be destroyed. Therefore this research supports the Hierarchical Description of Art Museum Archives and has the objective of proposing Art Archive Description Elements that promote the preservation of creation context and effective utilization. In addition, because personal records take up a large portion of Art Archives and are very diverse in terms of medium and type, a Description Element that can reflect this is attempted to be proposed.

  • This paper analyzes the art theory of Giorgio Vasari, the author of Le Vite de più eccellenti architetti, pittori, et scultori italiani, da Cimabue insino a' tempi nostri, which is considered the world's most important book on art history. Le Vite established a new status for artists and art works by containing facts, knowledge, and criticisms about approximately 200 Renaissance artists, as well as interesting facts that have been handed down to the world. In addition, by describing the sociocultural environment surrounding art, it established itself as a place for standardizing the language of art history. Therefore, Le Vite has a status as a compilation of art theories that describe the successive context of Renaissance art history and the major terms invented, as well as its own ontological value. Accordingly, this paper examines the formation background and each meaning of the core concepts of Renaissance art theory proposed by Vasari through Le Vite. The terms such as disegno and fantasia, and Vasari's position on paragone, which are discussed in the main text of this paper, are the result of a long debate that took place during the Renaissance in the 15th and 16th centuries. Vasari's art theory leads to the universal acceptance that all arts are equal and 'sisters' with a common purpose. In this process, Vasari's Le Vite functioned as a historical testimony to the intellectualization process of art. It also exerted a strong influence on the humanistic education system of Europe and participated in the cultural function of society and citizens.

  • In this paper, we propose a new intrusion detection algorithm based on clustering: Kernel-ART, which is composed of the on-line clustering algorithm, ART (adaptive resonance theory), combining with mercer-kernel and concept vector. Kernel-ART is not only satisfying all desirable characteristics in the context of clustering-based 105 but also alleviating drawbacks associated with the supervised learning IDS. It is able to detect various types of intrusions in real-time by means of generating clusters incrementally.

  • The emergence of independent cinema in the United States in the 1960s was the earliest sign of postmodernism in the country, which was often referred to as "underground cinema". The works, in a counter-cultural stance, overturned the thought of depth of traditional art cinema, not exploring the meaningful relationship between form and content in terms of artistic technique, but creating an aesthetic that echoed the "Pop Art" of the time by collaging established means of expression with traditional and fashionable ones in a consumerist manner. In this paper, American independent cinema was examined, firstly by analyzing the local and external factors that contributed to its rise. Secondly, two genres of independent cinema core paradigm, "underground cinema" and "pop cinema" were focused on, as a way of demonstrating the attention and influence that independent cinema has gained. Finally, we found that independent cinemas are also seeking for alternative exploration and diverse expressions in the context of the times.

  • Art theorists support art productions by, introducing them to the public, explaining their meanings, and playing a crucial part in the development of art. These tasks seem like their opus. Because the principles of art production and the artistic languages are quite different from the ordinaries, we need 'interpreters' who can mediate us and the artists. Art works need interpretation. And the interpretation includes not only the characteristics of the given art work, but the customs, history, and the unique qualities of the race that produced the art work. The former director of the Korean National Museum, Choi Soon-woo wrote on the characteristics of Korean art as those that stem from the poised, arbitrary, and non-elaborate state of mind. The statement of the former Director of the National Museum has its weight far greater than just a personal opinion. In fact, we encounter the same resonance of this statement over and over reproduced in the mass media. The problem lies on that it deals with not only a single art work, but the entire Korean art. And going further, this kind of remarks are already infused into every sector of our thought on art appreciation. In this paper, I argue for a re-reading of the characteristics of Korean beauty based on two reasons. First, the characteristic of art work is contemporary, thus we cannot define the characteristics of entire Korean art in a few words without the context of the period of its making. Second, Director Choi defined the characteristics that I pointed out above as 'natural' and 'nature-friendly.' Nature or being natural is not an usual word that defines the characteristics of art work, which stands for the opposite side of the nature in the binary opposition of nature/culture. To delve into these misunderstandings of Korean beauty in the popular notions of Korean art, I suggest the re-reading of three major articles on Korean art: Ryoo Jong-yeol's "Korean race and its art," Ko You-seup's reiteration of Ryoo's thesis called "Discourses in Korean Art History and Aesthetics," and Yoon Hee-soon's antithesis of Ryoo Jong-yeol titiled "Studies on Korean Art History."

  • In this paper, a novel gray-scale lossless image coder combining context-based minimum mean squared error (MMSE) prediction and entropy coding is proposed. To obtain context of prediction, this paper first defines directional difference according to sharpness of edge and gradients of localities of image data. Classification of 4 directional differences forms“geometry context”model which characterizes two-dimensional general image behaviors such as directional edge region, smooth region or texture. Based on this context model, adaptive DPCM prediction coefficients are calculated in MMSE sense and the prediction is performed. The MMSE method on context-by-context basis is more in accord with minimum entropy condition, which is one of the major objectives of the predictive coding. In entropy coding stage, context modeling method also gives useful performance. To reduce the statistical redundancy of the residual image, many contexts are preset to take full advantage of conditional probability in entropy coding and merged into small number of context in efficient way for complexity reduction. The proposed lossless coding scheme slightly outperforms the CALIC, which is the state-of-the-art, in compression ratio.

  • This study explored roles of the ornament in contemporary furniture that contemporary furniture designers make their furniture different, convey a metaphorical message, and competitive. Contemporary furniture involved in the ornament is decorative, beautiful, and characterized by craftsmanship through eclecticism and pluralism reestablished in furniture design in the postmodern era. Also, the ornament has been presented in the context of the blurring of art/craft distinctions. Thus, the contemporary furniture is called as art furniture/craft furniture which is diverse from minimal decoration to maximal decoration. Hence, by using all of the ornamental context, the furniture designers try to satisfy and communicate with the largest possible number of people, and have numerous opportunities to select according to their characteristics or taste. Finally, their furniture in the futuristic mode may be cross-cultural work that everybody in the earth can understand, enjoy, and appreciate in his/her daily space through his/her everyday use.

  • This paper focuses on the aesthetic ideology and aesthetic style embodied in the work of 'Blue is the Warmest Color' to dissect it and examine the identity and construction of identity as a minority group in a postmodern context. Blue is the Warmest Color is a film that focuses on homosexual emotions in adolescent development, showing the budding love and emotional orientation of a 15-year-old girl's adolescence, and the ecstsy and torment that comes with an awakened consciousness. The evolutionary process of the characters' emotional orientations is dissected, pointing out that the central theme of the film is the concern for fluid identity and self-identity. Through the narrative and the setting of the characters' emotional patterns and the "Body Writing" of women, this paper further examine the typical variability and fragmentation of postmodern identity, and interpret in detail the content, messages and effects of the characters' dialogues in the film to illustrate the way in which the work expresses class and identity differences. The research method is based on textual analysis and theoretical research.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a theoretical model identifying how consumers accept a fashionable technology product. A systematic review of 39 influential TAM studies focusing on theory development in the context of information technology results in three tendencies, which become backbone of the model of fashionable technology acceptance. A subsequent review of the nature of fashion fleshes out the backbone with detailed propositions in the more specific context of fashionable technology. The model of fashionable technology acceptance includes key propositions of Theory of Reasoned Action, in which internal beliefs consist of functional, aesthetic and symbolic values, and other factors, such as technology features (i.e., hardware specification, software specification, brand, and price factors), environmental conditions (i.e., technical infrastructure and user occasion), individual differences (i.e., age, gender, experience, personality, aesthetic sense, fashion innovativeness, and income), and social influence (i.e., subjective norms, social reputation, and cultural difference). Implications, limitations, and suggestions for future research are also discussed.

  • A Product-Service Systems (PSS) is composed of service and product element to provide values for relevant stakeholders. A typical service interaction involves providers and receivers, and respective values are provided in a social interaction. In cases, more than one providers are interacting with a receiver. In others, service interaction is happening in a public manner where social issues amang peer receivers are important. When service channel is supported by physical touchpoints, receivers would interact with products, which may interact with providers. Thus, in PSS, a various kinds of interactions occur in diverse social contexts. A simple representation method for social contexts is introduced where service providers, receivers and products are represented as nodes and interaction between them are represented as directed edges. Social context of several PSS examples are described with this. In booth designing and operating PSS, social context representations could be used in analyzing and comparing key aspects of social interaction types to retrieve similar cases to exploit related interaction design strategies and operation know-hows.
