  • The desulfurization process which belongs to the gas refining part is the unit process that eliminates $H_2S$ and COS in the coal gas formed by the coal gasification part in the integrated gasification combined cycle(IGCC). In this study, natural manganese ores were selected as the raw material of the desulfurization sorbent due to economical efficiency. Initial rates for the reactions between $H_2S$ and desulfurization sorbent using natural manganese ores were determined in a temperature range of $400{\sim}800^{\circ}C$ using a thermobalance reactor. All reactions were first order with respect to $H_2S$ and were in accord with the Arrhenius equations. When sulfidation reaction was controlled by diffusion, the temperature dependence of the effective diffusivity was given by the Arrhenius equation. Activation energies and frequency factors were obtained from the product layer diffusion coefficient of various sorbents by plotting as Arrhenius equation form.

  • Temperature-dependent, solution EPR spectra of two mixed-valence copper(II)-copper(I) complexes have been simulated by using modified Bloch equations. The transition probability for the intramolecular electron transfer is determined from the simulation. The transition probabilities have been fitted to the Arrhenius equation to derive the activation energies. The transition probability also varies according to the solvent used.

  • Rubber material properties and lifetime evaluation are very important in design procedure to assure the safety and reliability of the rubber components. This paper discusses the failure mechanism and material tests were carried out to predict the useful lifetime of NBR and EPDM for compression motor, which is used in refrigerator component. The heat-aging process leads not only to mechanical properties change but also to chemical structure change so called degradation. In order to investigate the aging effects on the material properties, the accelerated test were carried out. The stress-strain curves were plotted from the results of the tensile test for virgin and heat-aged rubber specimens. The rubber specimens were heat-aged in an oven at the temperature ranging from $70^{\circ}C\;to\;100^{\circ}C$ for a period ranging from 1 to 180 days. Compression set results changes as the threshold are used for assessment of the useful life and time to threshold value were plotted against reciprocal of absolute temperature to give the Arrhenius plot. By using the compression set test, several useful lifetime prediction equations for rubber material were proposed.

  • In this study, the effect of various concentrations of antioxidants on thermo-oxidative degradation of polyamide 6 was investigated. Unstabilized and stabilized polyamides 6 were subjected to long-term oven aging in ambient atmosphere at 70~$160^{\circ}C$. All of specimens were discolored within 100 hr at temperature range of 70~$160^{\circ}C$. Optimum antioxidant concentration was determined from the data of mechanical properties, yellowness index and relative viscosity. The synergistic effect of each primary and secondary antioxidant concentrations was not observed. Yellowing phenomenon was explained by using NMR, IR and EA. Different carbonyl groups were detected by $^{13}C$/NMR. During thermooxidative degradation, oxygen consumptions were determined by EA. The lifetime after long-term aging was predicted using Arrhenius equation.

  • Three dimensional structures of detonation wave propagating through a square-shaped duct were investigated using computational method and parallel processing. Inviscid fluid dynamics equations coupled with $variable-{\gamma}$ formulation and simplified one-step Arrhenius chemical reaction model were analysed by MUSCL-type TVD scheme and four stage Runge-Kutta time integration. The unsteady computational results in three dimension show the detailed mechanism of transverse mode and diagonal mode of detonation wave instabilities resulting same cell length but different cell width in smoked-foil record.

  • Rubber material properties and useful life evaluation are very important in design procedure to assure the safety and reliability of the rubber components. In this paper, the evaluation of characteristics and useful life prediction of rubber component for elevator cabin were experimentally investigated. The material test and accelerated heat-aging test were carried. Rubber material constants were obtained by curve fittings of simple tension, pure shear and bi-axial tension test data. Heat aging test results changes as the threshold are used for assessment of the useful life and time to threshold value were plotted against reciprocal of absolute temperature to give the Arrhenius plot. By using the rubber material and component test several useful life prediction equations for rubber component were proposed. Predicted useful life of rubber component for elevator cabin agreed fairly with the experimental lives.

  • According to the transition state (TS) theory, Gaussian software and Yao and Lin (YL) method, the thermodynamics and kinetic data respectively were calculated, and anharmonic effect was considered for related reactions of NO3. The methods of calculating and fitting kinetic and thermodynamics parameters were provided by least square method and related equations in this paper. Notably, the fitted E of Arrhenius equation was close to the calculated barrier of related reaction by QCISD(T) method. Therefore, the kinetic fitting result can well express the physical meaning of E in Arrhenius equation. Besides, the conversion process and the reaction mechanism of NO3 were researched. For NO3, it seemed that its instability results from its easy reaction with other substances rather than the decompose reaction of itself.

  • Post curing effects are estimated by specimen tests. Propellant specimen accelerated aging tests are performed when post curing is estimated to be complete and the coefficients of Arrhenius aging equations are acquired. Simulated motors with cylindrical grain are designed and fabricated to confirm the application. Accelerated aging tests are conducted, and aged properties are measured and estimated for the inner bore, center and bond parts of the grain. The measured aging ratios of the modulus are compared with the ones predicted by the equations. As the results, the accelerated aging equations predict well the propellant aging trends; however, some differences are observed at the bond part. Therefore, the specimen extraction part must be carefully chosen to suit the test purpose when a rocket motor grain is used for the aging test.

  • Laminar flows in which mixing and chemical reactions take place between parallel streams of reactive species are studied numerically. The governing equations for laminar flows are from two-dimensional compressible boundary-layer equations. The chemistry is a finite rate single step irreversible reaction with Arrhenius kinetics. Ignition, premixed flame, and diffusion flame regimes are found to exist in the laminar reacting mixing layer at high activation energy. At high Mach numbers, ignition occurs earlier due to the higher temperatures in the unburnt gas. In diffusion regimes, property variations affect the laminar profiles considerably and need to be included when there are large temperature differences. The maximum temperature of a laminar reacting mixing layer is almost linear with the adiabatic flame temperature at low heat release, but only weakly at high heat release.

  • This paper investigates the linear stability of reacting mixing layers with special emphasis on the existence of multiple unstable modes. The governing equations for laminar flows are from two-dimensional compressible boundary-layer equations. The chemistry is a finite rate single step irreversible reaction with Arrhenius kinetics. For the incompressible reacintg mixing layer with variable density. A necessary condition for instability has been derived. The condition requires that the angular momentum, not the vorticity, to have a maximum in the flow domain. New inflectional modes of instability are found to exist in the outer part of the mixing layer. For the compressible reacting mixing layer, supersonic unstable modes may exist in the abscence of a generalized inflection point. The outer modes at high Mach numbers in the reacting mixing layer are continuations of the inflectional modes of low Mach number flows. However, the generalized inflection point is less important at supersonic flows.
