  • Basel II advanced measurement approaches for operational risk need to estimate the frequency and severity distribution of operational losses. Due to lack of internal loss data, the estimation is impossible in many cases and so external loss data might be used by scaling on asset or gross income. To get around lack of loss data, scenario analysis combined with loss distribution approach can be useful in calculating the capital charge of operational risk. However, scenario based loss distribution approach requires much time and effort. Instead we may apply the analytic hierarchy process to measure operational risk of financial institutions. The analytic hierarchy process combined with loss distribution approach is to estimate the capital charge of operational risk in other areas based on the operational VaR in an area with sufficient loss data. AHP provides a tool for timely measurement of operational risk in this rapidly changing global environment.

  • The coating and estimation of gas and moisture barriers on polymer and glass substrates are receiving very much attention in passivation of organic light emitting devices (OLEDs). In this study, the encapsulation and lifetime measurement techniques of OLEDs were presented. The degradation mechanisms of bare and encapsulated OLEDs were investigated by the visual lifetime measurement (VLM) system with the parameters such as a pixel luminance(L), a luminance rms roughness(dL), a brightness area ratio(R), an edge degradation depth(D), etc.

  • To reconstruct the real 3-D shape from the 3-D measurement data from the multiple directions, the rconstruction of the object on the basis of the mosaic processing of the 3-D measurement data are proposed. In this method, to conduct the reconstruction, the connection points have to be identified among the over-lap area between adjacent 3-D data. In this study, the simple image matching method is adopted for the identification of connection points, and this method is verified from numerical experiments.

  • The measurement of surface roughness and waviness by means of noncontact method is an important area to be developed for GAC(Geometrical Adaptive Control) system. This paper deal with the design of noncontact in-process measurement system which measures the surface roughness and waviness during cylindrical grinding. This measuring system is simple and the apparatus proposed is composed of a laser unit, photodetector and optical system. During operation, the surface of a workpiece is continuously scanned by a laser beam. This method makes it possible to detect the surface roughness and waviness along the feed direction by control the spot diameter of laser beam. The experimental results show that the presence of chattering, loading and glazing can be detected sensitively along the feed directions.

  • Shadow moire topography has been used as a noncontact method for measuring the 3-D shapes of objects. The moire fringes are results from the superposition of a master grating and its shadow projected on the surface of an object. But in case of the classical shadow moire method, in general, the resolution is a few tenths of millimeter. It is difficult to use a phase -shifting method in shadow moire because it is impossible to obtain uniform phase shifts on the whole field. But in this study , We introduce a phase-shifting method to improve the resolution of the classical shadow moire method. This method is based on the fact that if the depth of object is much less than the distance between the observer and the master grating, the phase shifts are almost uniform on the whole field area. Finally, we applied this new phase-shifting method to the measurement of the 3-D shape of a coin.

  • This paper addresses the issues and difficulties encountered in developing a 12-axis measurement system for the assessment of whole-body vibration exposed from the body contact area. The contents of related survey work and the ideas from Professor Griffin in ISVR, that have led to its successful development, are introduced here. The developed 12-axis measurement system is shown to satisfy the international standards of ISO 2631 and BS 6841 in EC. This system is expected to play a key role in assessing the ride quality of passenger cars that is rapidly becomes much interest in Korean car-makers and tyre-makers.

  • Internal defects are mainly caused by a corrosive action and degradation in the pipe used in a nuclear power plant or factory. The ESPI method have the many advantages when compared with conventional method. The advantage are the area measurement ability at one time and non-contact measurement ability in the real-time. In this paper, we studied on the measurement of a internal defect by using out of plane ESPI technique. Here, we compared the experimental results using out of plane ESPI with the FEM results.

  • In this research, CFD calculation was implemented to analyze wind tunnel effect or rotor experiment in wind tunnel. One case included model wind turbine and all wind tunnel geometries. The other case include only rotor and nacelle system. Star-CCM+ was used for CFD analysis and rigid body motion around rotor area was applied to simulate rotating rotor. As for turbulence model, K-omega SST was used. The results were compared in 15m/s inflow condition. These results shows a good agreement with the measurement. Then, the result without wind tunnel was slightly different to the result with wind tunnel. Thus, in the case of Mexnex wind tunnel measurement, the wind tunnel don't affect the measurement result. Then, this wind tunnel and rotor size ratio can be reference for wind tunnel experiment of wind turbine rotor.

  • In this paper, we propose an artificial intelligence method to compensate the nonlinearity error which occurs in the heterodyne laser interferometer. Some superior properties such as long measurement range, ultra-precise resolution and various system set-up lead the laser interferometer to be a practical displacement measurement apparatus in various industry and research area. In ultra-precise measurement such as nanometer or subnanometer scale, however, the accuracy is limited by the nonlinearity error caused by the optical parts. The feedforward neural network trained by back-propagation with a capacitive sensor as a reference signal minimizes the nonlinearity error and we demonstrate the effectiveness of our proppsed algorithm through some experimental results.

  • In this paper, a new method is presented to measure the refractive index of single plain glass or multilayered materials, based on a laser frequency-shifted confocal feedback microscope. Combining the laser frequency-shifted feedback technique and the confocal effect, the method can attain high axial-positioning accuracy, stability and sensitivity. Measurements of different samples are given, including N-BK7 glass, Silica plain glass, and a microfluidic chip with four layers. The results for N-BK7 glass and Silica plain glass show that the measurement uncertainty in the refractive index is better than 0.001. Meanwhile, the feasibility of this method for multilayered materials is tested. Compared to conventional methods, this system is more compact and has less difficulty in sample processing, and thus is promising for applications in the area of refractive-index measurement.
