The purpose of this study is to develop a computer simulation program for analyzing load transmission characteristics of a helical gear system in design stage. In this analysis, the rotational delay, load distribution, root stress, and contact area are investigated. That is, the influence function of deflection is obtained by finite element analysis and the influence function of approach and gear tooth error are considered. Load distribution, rotational delay, and contact area are calculated by solving load-deflection equation which includes these influence functions and tooth error, and the influence function of the bending moment is obtained by finite element analysis. The root stress is calculated by the load distribution and the influence function of the bending moment. The results of the simulation are cross-checked through a specially designed experimental set-up.
In this paper, we proposed a high precision location estimation algorithm using an enhanced decision scheme for RTLS and analyzed its performance in point of an average estimation error distance at 2D coordinates searching area, $300m\times300m$ and LOS propagation environments. Also the performance was compared with that of conventional TDOA algorithm according to the number of available reader and received sub-blink. From the results, we confirmed that the proposed location estimation algorithm using an enhanced decision scheme was able to improve an estimation accuracy even in boundary region of searching area. Moreover, effectively reduced an error distance in entire searching area so that increased the stability of location estimation in RTLS. Therefore, we verified that the proposed algorithm provided a more higher estimation accuracy and stability than conventional TDOA.
The position accuracy of the stand-alone Regional Navigation Satellite System (RNSS) users is more than tens of meters because of various error sources in satellite navigation signals. This paper focuses on wide-area differential (WAD) positioning technique, which is already applied in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), in order to improve the position accuracy of RNSS users. According to the simulation results in the very narrow ground network in regional area, the horizontal position error of stand-alone RNSS is about RMS 11.6 m, and that of RNSS with WAD technique, named the WAD-RNSS, is about RMS 2.5 m. The accuracy performance has improved by about 78%.

To provide more accurate and reliable positioning and timing services to Korean nationwide users, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of Korea is implementing Korean NDGPS (Nationwide DGPS), which is operational partly. And it also has a plan to construct WADGPS (Wide Area Differential GPS) system using sites and equipments of the NDGPS reference stations. For that, Seoul National University GNSS Laboratory is implementing and testing prototypes of WRS (Wide-area Reference Station) and WMS (Wide-area Master Station). Until now, because there are not enough installed WRSs to be used for computing wide area correction information, we cannot test algorithms of WMS with the data processed actually in WRSs. Therefore to evaluate the performance of the algorithms, we made a MATLAB program which can process RINEX (Receiver INdependent Exchange) format data with WADGPS algorithm. Using that program which consists of WRS, WMS and USER modules, we processed the data collected at NDGPS reference stations, which are saved in RINEX format. In WRS module, we eliminate the atmospheric delay error from the pseudorange measurement, smooth the measurement by hatch filter and calculate pseudorange corrections for each satellite. WMS module collects the processed data from each reference stations to generate the wide area correction information including estimated satellite ephemeris errors, ionospheric delays at each grid point, UDRE (User Differential Range Error), GIVE (Grid Ionosphere Vertical Error) and so on. In USER part, we use the measurements of reference stations as those of users and estimate the corrected users' positions and protection levels (HPL, VPL). With the results of estimation, we analyzed the performance of the algorithms. We assured the estimated UDRE /GIVE values and the protection levels bound the corresponding errors effectively. In this research, we can expect the possible performance of WADGPS in Korea, and the developed modules will be useful to implementation and improvement of the algorithms.
The purpose of this study is to survey input data error of ship automatic identification system (AIS) and suggest its improvement. The effects of AIS were observed. Input data error of AIS was investigated by dividing it into dynamic data, static data by targeting actual ships and its improvement method was suggested. The findings are as follows. Looking into accidents before and after AIS is enforced to install on the ship, total collision were decreased after AIS installed. Static data error of AIS took place mainly in the case that ship name, call sign, MMSI, IMO number, ship type, location of antenna (ship length and width) were wrongly input or those data were not input initially. Dynamic data error of AIS was represented by input error of ship's heading. As errors of voyage related data take place as well, confusion is made in sailing or ship condition. Counter measures against the above are as follows. First, reliability of AIS data information should be improved. Second, incessant concern and management should be made on the navigation officers.
In end milling process, the undeformed chip section area and cutting forces vary periodically with phase change of the tool. However, the real undeformed chip section area deviates from the geometrically ideal one owing to cutter runout and tool shape error. In this study, a method of estimating the real undeformed chip section area which reflects cutter runout and tool shape error was presented during down end-milling of Inconel 715 using measure cutting forces. Contrary to the up-end milling the value of radial specific cutting resistance, $K_r$, becomes larger as the helix angle increases from $30^{\circ}$ to $40^{\circ}$ and it shows almost same value at $50^{\circ}$ The value of tangential specific cutting resistance, $K_t$ becomes larger as the helix angle increases same as in up-end milling, the $KK_r$, and $K_t$ values show a tendency to decrease with increase of the modified chip section area and this tendency is distinct with helix angle $40^{\circ}$.
The tropical forests in developing countries are faced with the problem of illegal exploitation of trees. However, dearth of empirical means of expressing the dimensions, structure, quality and quantity of a removed tree has imped conviction of offenders. This study aimed at developing a model that can effectively estimate individual tree basal area (BA) from stump diameter (Ds) for Tectona grandis stands in Omo Forest Reserve, Nigeria, for timber valuation in case of illegal felling. Thirty-six $25m{\times}25m$ temporary sample plots (TSPs) were laid randomly in six age strata; 26, 23, 22, 16, 14, and 12 years specifically. BA, Ds and diameter at breast height were measured in all living T. grandis trees within the 36 TSPs. Least square method was used to convert the counted stumps into harvested stem cross-sectional areas. Six basal area models were fitted and evaluated. The BA-Ds relationship was best described by power model which gave least values of Root mean square error (0.0048), prediction error sum of squares (0.0325) and Akaike information criterion (-15391) with a high adjusted coefficient of determination (0.921). This study revealed that basal area estimation was realistic even when the only information available was stump diameter. The power model was validated using independent data obtained from additional plots and was found to be appropriate for estimating the basal area of Tectona grandis stands in Omo Forest Reserve, Nigeria.
The sunspot area is a critical physical quantity for assessing the solar activity level; forecasts of the sunspot area are of great importance for studies of the solar activity and space weather. We developed an innovative hybrid model prediction method by integrating the complementary ensemble empirical mode decomposition (CEEMD) and extreme learning machine (ELM). The time series is first decomposed into intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) with different frequencies by CEEMD; these IMFs can be divided into three groups, a high-frequency group, a low-frequency group, and a trend group. The ELM forecasting models are established to forecast the three groups separately. The final forecast results are obtained by summing up the forecast values of each group. The proposed hybrid model is applied to the smoothed monthly mean sunspot area archived at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). We find a mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) and a root mean square error (RMSE) of 1.80% and 9.75, respectively, which indicates that: (1) for the CEEMD-ELM model, the predicted sunspot area is in good agreement with the observed one; (2) the proposed model outperforms previous approaches in terms of prediction accuracy and operational efficiency.
