The increasing demand for monitoring wildfires and their impact on the land surface have prompted studies of burned area extraction and analysis. To differentiate burned and unburned area, the earlier method of the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectro-radiometer (MODIS) Burned Area Detection Algorithm was proposed to estimate the change in land surface based on the reflectance energy. The energy, whose wavelengths are sensitive to burning, was selected to calculate the change parameter $Z_{score}$. This method was applied using the MODIS images to produce a MODIS Burned Area product. The approach was to simplify this algorithm to make it compatible with the Landsat 7 ETM+ SLC-off images. To extract the refined version of burned regions, post-processing was carried out by applying a median filter, dilation morphology algorithm, and finally a gap filling method. The experimental results showed that the detailed burned areas extracted from the proposed method exhibited more spatial details than those of the MODIS Burned products in the large U.S areas. The results also revealed the discontinuous distribution of burned regions in Vietnam forests.
In this paper, we consider a problem of partitioning a search area into smaller rectangular regions, so that multiple platforms can conduct search operations independently without requiring unnecessary coordination among themselves. The search area consists of cells where each cell has some prior information regarding the probability of target existence. The detection probability in particular cell is evaluated by multiplying the observation probability of the platform and the target existence probability in that cell. The total detection probability within the search area is defined as the cumulative detection probability for each cell. However, since this search area partitioning problem is NP-Hard, we decompose the problem into three sequential phases to solve this computationally intractable problem. Additionally, we discuss a special case of this problem, which can provide an optimal analytic solution. We also examine the performance of the proposed approach by comparing our results with the optimal analytic solution.
In this paper, we propose an algorithm to extract rectangular object area such 3s Data Matrix two-dimensional barcode using edge tracing-based linear feature detection. Hough transform is usually employed to detect lines of edge map. However, it requires parametric image space, and does not find the location of end points of the detected lines. Our algorithm detects end points of the detected lines using edge tracing and extracts object area using its shape information.

In this paper, we propose a preprocessing method that it is to correct the distortion of text area in Korean signboard images as a preprocessing step to improve character recognition. Distorted perspective in recognizing of Korean signboard text may cause of the low recognition rate. The proposed method consists of four main steps and eight sub-steps: main step consists of potential vertical components detection, vertical components detection, text-boundary estimation and distortion correction. First, potential vertical line components detection consists of four steps, including edge detection for each connected component, pixel distance normalization in the edge, dominant-point detection in the edge and removal of horizontal components. Second, vertical line components detection is composed of removal of diagonal components and extraction of vertical line components. Third, the outline estimation step is composed of the left and right boundary line detection. Finally, distortion of the text image is corrected by bilinear transformation based on the estimated outline. We compared the changes in recognition rates of OCR before and after applying the proposed algorithm. The recognition rate of the distortion corrected signboard images is 29.63% and 21.9% higher at the character and the text unit than those of the original images.
Human detection is an important aspect in many video-based sensing and monitoring systems. Studies have been actively conducted for the automatic detection of humans in camera images, and various methods have been proposed. However, there are still problems in terms of performance and computational cost. In this paper, we describe a method for efficient human detection in the field of view of a camera, which may be static or moving, through multiple processing steps. A detection line is designated at the position where a human appears first in a sensing area, and only the one-dimensional gray pixel values of the line are monitored. If any noticeable change occurs in the detection line, corner detection and optical flow computation are performed in the vicinity of the detection line to confirm the change. When significant changes are observed in the corner numbers and optical flow vectors, the final determination of human presence in the monitoring area is performed using the Histograms of Oriented Gradients method and a Support Vector Machine. The proposed method requires processing only specific small areas of two consecutive gray images. Furthermore, this method enables operation not only in a static condition with a fixed camera, but also in a dynamic condition such as an operation using a camera attached to a moving vehicle.
Endpoint detection with plasma impedance monitoring and self-plasma optical emission spectroscopy is demonstrated for dielectric layers etching processes. For in-situ detecting endpoint, optical-emission spectroscopy (OES) is used for in-situ endpoint detection for plasma etching. However, the sensitivity of OES is decreased if polymer is deposited on viewport or the proportion of exposed area on the wafer is too small. To overcome these problems, the endpoint was determined by impedance signal variation from I-V monitoring (VI probe) and self-plasma optical emission spectroscopy. In addition, modified principal component analysis was applied to enhance sensitivity for small area etching. As a result, the sensitivity of this method is increased about twice better than that of OES. From plasma impedance monitoring and self-plasma optical emission spectroscopy, properties of plasma and chamber are analyzed, and real-time endpoint detection is achieved.
Since multipath phenomenon frequently occurs when a Global Positioning System receiver is placed in urban area crowded with large buildings, efficient mitigation of multipath effects is necessary to resolve. In this paper, we propose a new multipath detection technique that is useful in real-time positioning with a general Global Positioning System receiver. The proposed technique is based on a channelwise multipath test statistic that efficiently indicates the degree of fluctuations induced by multipath error. The proposed multipath test statistic is operationally advantageous because it does not require any specialized hardware nor any pre-computation of receiver position, it is directly related to standard $\chi$$^2$-distributions, and it can adjust the detection resolution by increasing the number of successive measurements. Simulation and experiment results verify the performance of the proposed multipath detection technique.

In this paper, we present a novel algorithm for image-based maritime obstacle detection using global sparsity potentials (GSPs), in which "global" refers to the entire sea area. The horizon line is detected first to segment the sea area as the region of interest (ROI). Considering the geometric relationship between the camera and the sea surface, variable-size image windows are adopted to sample patches in the ROI. Then, each patch is represented by its texture feature, and its average distance to all the other patches is taken as the value of its GSP. Thereafter, patches with a smaller GSP are clustered as the sea surface, and patches with a higher GSP are taken as the obstacle candidates. Finally, the candidates far from the mean feature of the sea surface are selected and aggregated as the obstacles. Experimental results verify that the proposed approach is highly accurate as compared to other methods, such as the traditional feature space reclustering method and a state-of-the-art saliency detection method.
In this paper, we propose a faster object detection and tracking method using Deep Learning, UAV(unmanned aerial vehicle), Kalman filter and YOLO(You Only Look Once)v3 algorithms. The performance of the object tracking system is decided by the performance and the accuracy of object detecting and tracking algorithms. So we applied to the YOLOv3 algorithm which is the best detection algorithm now at our proposed detecting system and also used the Kalman Filter algorithm that uses a variable detection area as the tracking system. In the experiment result, we could find the proposed system is an excellent result more than a fixed area detection system.
