  • The GPS technique widely used recently in car navigation system has two problems that are unavailability in urban canyons and inherent positional error rate. The one has been studied and solved in many literatures. However, the other still leads to incorrect locational information in some area, especially parallel roads. This paper proposes and implements a system to recognize lane of moving vehicle based on images obtained from in-vehicle networks or other devices. The proposed system utilizes a real-time image matching algorithm which determines the direction of moving vehicle in parallel section of road. It also employs a method for accuracy improvement. The results obtained from experimental test on real-time navigation show that the proposed systems works well and the accuracy increases.

  • This paper presents a new low-cost fault-based Built-In Self-Test (BIST) scheme and technique for 1.8GHz RF receiver front end. The technique utilizes input impedance matching measurement. The BIST block and RF receiver front end are designed using 0.25m CMOS technology on a single chip. The technique is simple and inexpensive. The overhead of the BIST circuit is approximately $10\%$ of the total area of the RF front end.

  • Recently the need for advanced security technologies are increasing as the occurrence of intelligent crime is growing fastly. Previous liveness detection and fake face detection methods are required for the improvement of accuracy in order to be put to practical use. In this paper, we propose a new liveness detection method using pupil reflection, and new fake image detection using Adaboost detector. The proposed system detects eyes based on multi-scale Gabor feature vector in the first stage, The template matching plays a role in determining the allowed eye area. And then, the reflected image in the pupil is used to decide whether or not the captured image is live or not. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method is superior to the previous methods in the detection accuracy of fake images.

  • In a fire disaster in a tunnel, people should be rescued immediately using the information obtained from cameras or sensors. However, in heavy smoke from a fire, people cannot be clearly identified by a mounted CCTV, which is only effective in a clear environment. A thermal camera can be an alternative to this in smoky situations and is capable of detecting people from their emitted thermal energy. On the other hand, the thermal image camera has a smaller field of view than an ordinary camera due to its lens characteristics and temperature error, etc. In order to cover a relatively wide area, panoramic image construction needs to be implemented. In this work, a template-based similarity matching algorithm for constructing the panorama image is proposed and its performance is verified through experiments. This scheme provides guidelines for coping with difficulty in image construction, which requires an exact correspondence search for two images in cases of heavy smoke.

  • According to the PDE scheme, it is desirable to make the value of SAD to be rapidly increased in motion estimation. In this paper, we propose a new block matching algorithm based on the combination of a new scan and search order. In the proposed scan order, a current block is divided by the frequency that is estimated by summing the difference between the mean and the values of the pixels. And then the calculation of SAD is performed from the highest frequency area. In the proposed search order based on DC difference between the current and the candidate block, candidate blocks with low DC are early checked in motion estimation. Simulation results show that the proposed method achieves about 6% computational gain compared with the conventional methods.

  • This paper proposes an efficient method for 3D modeling of a human face from trinocular images by reconstructing face surface using range data. By using a trinocular camera system, we mitigated the tradeoff between the occlusion problem and the range resolution limitation which is the critical limitation in binocular camera system. We also propose an MPC_MBS (Matching Pixel Count Multiple Baseline Stereo) area-based matching method to reduce boundary overreach phenomenon and to improve both of accuracy and precision in matching. In this method, the computing time can be reduced significantly by removing the redundancies. In the model generation sub-pixel accurate surface data are achieved by 2D interpolation of disparity values, and are sampled to make regular triangular meshes. The data size of the triangular mesh model can be controlled by merging the vertices that lie on the same plane within user defined error threshold.

  • In these days, image mosaic is getting interest in the field of advertisement, tourism, game, medical imaging, and so on with the development of internet technology and the performance of personal computers. The main problem of mage mosaic is searching corresponding points correctly in the overlapped area between images. However, previous methods requires a lot of CPU times and data processing for finding corresponding points. And they need repeated recording with a revolution of 360 degree around objects or background. This paper presents a new image mosaic method which generates a panorama image from a video sequence recorded by a general video camera. Our method finds the corresponding points between two successive images by using a new direction oriented 3step block matching methods. Experimental results show that the suggested method is more efficient than the methods based on existing block matching algorithm, such as full search and Kstep search algorithm.

  • UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) are widely used for maintenance and monitoring of facilities. It is necessary to acquire a high-resolution image for evaluating the appearance state of the facility in safety inspection. In addition, it is essential to acquire the video data in order to acquire data over a wide area rapidly. In general, since video data does not include position information, it is difficult to analyze the actual size of the inspection object quantitatively. In this study, we evaluated the utilization of 3D point cloud data of bridges using a matching between video frames and reference photos. The drones were used to acquire video and photographs. And exterior orientations of the video frames were generated through feature point matching with reference photos. Experimental results showed that the accuracy of the video frame data is similar to that of the reference photos. Furthermore, the point cloud data generated by using video frames represented the shape and size of bridges with usable accuracy. If the stability of the product is verified through the matching test of various conditions in the future, it is expected that the video-based facility modeling and inspection will be effectively conducted.

  • With the advent of submarine detection technology using low-frequency active sonar there is a call for a new submarine stealth device that can replace the existing passive anechoic tiles. Proposed in this study is a low-frequency echo reduction technique based on active impedance matching, which employs a tile projector designed to cover a wide area such as the surface of a ship. To judge the feasibility of the active impedance matching technique finite-element simulations of low-frequency echo reduction are performed. Based on the analysis, a tile projector is designed, fabricated, and tested in an acoustic tank for its low-frequency echo reduction performance.
