북극해 운항 중 계측된 빙하중에 대한 분석 연구 (A Study on Analysis of Ice Load Measured during the Voyage in the Arctic Sea)

  • The icebreaking research vessel, ARAON had her second ice trial in the Arctic Sea from 16th July to 12th August 2010. During the voyage, the local ice loads acting on the bow of port side were measured from 14 strain gauges. The measurements were also carried out in ice waters with various ice concentration ratio as well as the icebreaking performance tests. In this study, the ice loads measured during the 'general' operation in ice waters were analyzed. As a first step, the relationship between the location of strain gauges and the ice loads were investigated, and then the possibility for observation of higher ice loads was estimated based on the probability density function. The relationship between the ship speed and the ice load was also investigated. 718 peak stresses data higher than 20 MPa obtained from strain gauges array attached in longitudinally and vertically was analyzed. In general, the ice load increases as the ship speed increases in the low ship speed range, and ice load decreases as the ship speed is greater than a certain speed.

북태평양 조업선박의 운영 효율성 및 생산성 분석 (An Analysis of Operational Efficiency and Productivity for deep-sea fishing vessels in the North Pacific Ocean)

  • 지구온난화와 더불어 조업이 가능한 수역이 넓어지고 있다. 특히 수온상승으로 풍부한 어족자원이 이동하고 있는 북극해의 경우 최근 관심이 높아지고 있다. 북태평양지역은 북극해에 가장 가깝고 진입하기 용이한 지역이다. 현재 북태평양에서 조업하고 있는 한국수산업은 미래 북극해 조업에 대비하여 효율성분석 등을 통하여 미래를 대비하여야 한다. 이러한 측면에서 본 연구는 자료포락분석(DEA)방법 및 Malmquist지수를 활용하여 북태평양 수역에 조업하는 선박 중 2009년부터 2013년까지 운항한 16척의 선박의 효율성을 분석하는 것을 연구의 목적으로 하였다. 효율성 분석을 위해 투입변수로는 선박톤수, 선박마력수, 조업일수를, 산출변수로는 연간어획량을 선정하였다. 측정결과에 의하면, 지난 5년간(2009년~2013년) 평균 효율성은 CCR효율성 0.8405, BCC효율성 0.9484, 규모효율성 0.8858로 나타나, 운영하고 있는 선박들은 전반적으로 선박톤수를 38%, 선박마력수를 36%, 조업일수를 29% 줄여야 현재보다 효율적인 운영이 가능할 것으로 나타났다.

  • 극지 환경계에서 발견되는 수은의 농도분포는 봄철 극단적인 소멸과 여름철 고농도의 발현과 같이 특이한 분포 특성을 취하는 것으로 밝혀지고 있다. 이와 같은 극지환경의 계절적 농도분포특성은 일반적으로 알려진 수은의 대기환경학적 특성과 상치되는 현상이다. 본문에서는 북극지역에서 장기간 관측된 수은의 농도자료와 이에 대비한 비교 자료 군으로 서울지역을 중심으로 장기 관측된 자료들을 동시에 이강하여, 극지역 수은분포의 특이성과 환경학적 의미를 여러 가지 관점에서 다양하게 고찰하였다.

Ice Collision Analyses for Membrane Tank Type LNG Carrier

  • As arctic energy resource is attracting public attention, arctic shipping market will also be growing in large as expected to increase in LNG trade from Arctic area to the western countries by shipping. During the voyages through such routes, collision with icebergs may be possible. In the present report, ice collision analyses are carried out from a practical point of view to verify the safety of hull structural strength of LNG carriers equipped with GTT $MKIII^{TM}$ membrane type cargo containment system. From the results of collision analyses and the operation-friendly design concept of no-repairing of cargo containment system, a safe operating envelope against ice collision is proposed for LNG carriers of membrane type cargo containment system. Based on the currently proposed safety criteria, it is concluded that LNG carriers with membrane tank type can operate safely with regard to the integrity of CCS in regions where collision between LNG carrier and iceberg is expected.

강재의 저온 특성을 고려한 선체 보강판과 빙하의 충격 상호 작용에 대한 수치 해석 (Numerical Analysis of Iceberg Impact Interaction with Ship Stiffened Plates Considering Low-temperature Characteristics of Steel)

  • It is essential to design crashworthy marine structures for operations in Arctic regions, especially ice-covered waters, where the structures must have sufficient capacity to resist iceberg impact. In this study, a numerical analysis of a colliding accident between an iceberg and stiffened plates was carried out employing the commercial finite element code ABAQUS/Explicit. The ice material model developed by Liu et al. (2011) was implemented in the simulations, and its availability was verified by performing some numerical simulations. The influence of the ambient temperature on the structural resistance was evaluated while the local stress, plastic strain, and strain energy density in the structure members were addressed. The present study revealed the risk of fracture in terms of steel embrittlement induced by ambient temperature. As a result, the need to consider the possibility of brittle failure in a plate-stiffener junction during operations in Arctic regions is acknowledged. Further experimental work to understand the structural behavior in a plate-stiffener junction and HAZ is required.

빙-콘크리트 마찰 특성 평가를 위한 실험적 기초 연구 (Basic Experimental Study for Ice-Concrete Friction Behavior)

  • Ice induced abrasion is known as a critical problem in concrete gravity based offshore structures, which are mainly used in the arctic regions. Although many researches on ice abrasion have been conducted for the last several decades, there still are some difficulties in designing concrete gravity based offshore structures against abrasion problem because there is no standardized method yet due to the uncertain physics involved in. This paper presents an experimental study for the evaluation of concrete abrasion characteristics due to ice friction on concrete surface. For the test, a testing machine capable of abrasion and friction was designed and produced, and standardized procedure was proposed to produce ice specimen used for abrasion test. For the experiment, compressive strength of the ice specimen were explored through a static compression test. Then the friction test between ice specimen and concrete surface was performed and friction coefficients were derived using measured vertical and horizontal forces. Dependency of friction coefficients on some test parameters were studied and discussed as well.

북극해 해빙 탐지를 위한 Sentinel-1 HV자료의 방사보정 연구 (A Study on the Radiometric Correction of Sentinel-1 HV Data for Arctic Sea Ice Detection)

  • 최근 북극항로와 온난화 등의 영향으로 인해 북극해에 대한 활발한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 기존에 수동 마이크로파 복사계를 이용하여 북극해 해빙의 정량적 면적을 산출하는 연구는 진행되어 왔으나, 보다 고해상도로 해빙의 가장자리에서 발생하는 융해 및 표면 거칠기 변화에 대한 연구는 잘 이루어지지 않았다. 또한, 최근 Sentinel1-A/B자료가 무료로 배포되고, 특히 북극해 영역에 대한 수많은 자료들이 짧은 기간 동안 생산 및 제공되고 있기에, 이러한 대용량 자료들을 모자익(mosaic)하여 북극해 전체에 대한 고해상도 해빙정보 이용이 가능하게 되었다. 그러나 Sentienl-1A/B의 광역관측(Extended Wide, EW)모드 자료를 효과적으로 사용하기 위해서는 보다 정확한 방사보정이 수행되어야 한다. 이를 위해 이중편파 Sentinel-1A/B 자료에 나타나는 thermal noise와 scalloping 효과를 자동적으로 보정할 수 있는 방사보정 기법을 개발하였으며, 나아가 방사보정 된 이중편파 SAR자료를 이용할 경우 해빙과 open-water를 보다 더 잘 구분할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

쇄빙연구선 ARAON호의 빙하중 추정을 위한 6자유도 운동계측 및 스트레인 게이지 데이터의 비교 분석 (Comparison of the 6-DOF Motion Sensor and Stain Gauge Data for Ice Load Estimation on IBRV ARAON)

  • This study focuses on the comparison of measured data from 6-DOF motion sensor and strain gauge installed in the IBRV ARAON during 2015 summer voyage in the Arctic. Procedures to calculate the global ice load from MotionPak II inertial measurement system and the local load from stain gauge system are discussed. The ship's speed and peak load are determined in the concept of an ice collision "event". It is found that the peak values in the global ice calculated form whole ship motion analysis fall in the range of 1.5~3 times of the local ice load based in strain gauge measurement.

Anti-icing Method of Heated Walkway in Ice Class Ships: Efficiency Verification of CNT-based Surface Heating Element Method Through Numerical Analysis

  • While melting glaciers due to global warming have facilitated the development of polar routes, Arctic vessels require reliable anti-icing methods to prevent hull icing. Currently, the existing anti-icing method, i.e., the heating coil method, has disadvantages, such as disconnection and power inefficiency. Therefore, a carbon nanotube-based surface heating element method was developed to address these limitations. In this study, the numerical analysis of the surface heating element method was performed using ANSYS. The numerical analysis included conjugate heat transfer and computational fluid dynamics to consider the conduction solids and the effects of wind speed and temperature in cold environments. The numerical analysis method of the surface heating element method was validated by comparing the experimental results of the heating coil method with the numerical analysis results (under the -30 ℃ conditions). The surface heating element method demonstrated significantly higher efficiency, ranging from 56.65-80.17%, depending on the conditions compared to the heating coil method. Moreover, even under extreme environmental conditions (-45 ℃), the surface heating element method satisfied anti-icing requirements. The surface heating element method is more efficient and economical than the heating coil method. However, proper heat flux calculation for environmental conditions is required to prevent excessive design.

북극 스발바드 제도 주변 4월 해빙 특성 조사: 해빙 분포, 해빙 밀도(SIC), 합성개구레이더 산란특성 비교 (A comparative study on the distribution and Sea Ice Concentration of the sea ice in the Svalbard Area, Arctic Sea)

  • 다산기지 주변 해역인 스발바드섬은 북반구 해빙 분포지역의 가장자리에 위치해 있으며 해빙의 이동이 비교적 빠른 지역이다. 지구 온난화의 영향을 받는 대표적인 지역으로 이 지역의 해빙변화에 대한 연구는 지구온난화의 지표로서 중요성을 가진다. 스발바드섬 주변의 해빙에서 얻어진 다편파 SAR 데이터를 분석하여 해빙에 대한 후방산란계수의 특성을 분석하고자 한다. 데이터 획득에는 ENVISAT/ASAR (2002 년 발사 C-밴드, 다편파 사용)과 PALSAR (2006 년 발사, L-밴드, 다편파 사용)의 두 가지 SAR 가 이용되었으며 데이터 획득 시기는 해빙의 변화가 활발한 4 월경이다. 기본적으로 L-밴드와 C-밴드의 두 가지 밴드별 차이에 관한 특성을 알아보고 기타 후방산란계수에 영향을 주는 요소들에 대하여 알아보고자 한다.
