  • The National Archives of Korea and other archives now provide services through social media such as Facebook or Twitter, and use such platforms to interact with users. To be specific, users communicate with and get information from these archives via the National Sinmoongo, the place for civil petition. Therefore, it is significant to understand the users' needs and the contents of the communication by analyzing the comments and petitions that have appeared in these channels. For this, this study analyzed users' perceptions and information needs shared through social media and the National Sinmoongo of the National Archives of Korea. The social media content analyzed here were posts and comments from the Facebook accounts of the National Archives of Korea, e-Record, the Busan Archives, and the Presidential Archives of Korea. Also, sentences containing the words "National Archives of Korea" and "Presidential Archives of Korea" that have appeared in texts in the National Sinmoongo were analyzed. Based on the analysis results, suggestions that could activate the user-centered archival information services in the archives and records centers were made.

  • In order to understand a record, not only the contents of the record but also the production background and work context of the record must be grasped. It also requires a function that makes it easy to find related records scattered across various departments and agencies. Accordingly, the 'linkage' of information in archival information services is becoming more important. NAK also emphasizes 'linkage' as a search service function of the archives management system, but some problems were identified at the National Archives Portal Service (NAPS) such as a lack of linkage with authority data, disruption of internal service, and absence of linkage with other related organizations. To solve the limitations of the NAPS, we selected and analyzed advanced record management institutions that have built an ideal linkage service; checked the overall linkage structure of these institutions; and identified characteristics that could not be seen by other institutions. Also, elements that can be adopted from the NAPS were derived. Next, the current status of the NAPS linkage structure was analyzed to identify the parts that were not linked and the items that need to be improved in the linkage method, and specific advancement plans were suggested to solve these problems. The purpose of this study is to increase users' satisfaction with search and to advance the accessibility and utilization of records and internal services through improved linkage services of NAPS.

  • Archival description in archives has an important role in document control and reference service. Archives has made an effort to do archival description. But we have some differences and problems about a theory and practical processes comparing with advanced countries. The serious difference in a theory is that a function classification, maintenance of an original order, arrangement of multi-level description are not reflected in practical process. they are arranged in shelves after they are arranged by registration order in a unit of a volume like an arrangement of book. In addition, there are problems in history of agency change or control of index. So these can cause inconvenience for users. For improving, in this study we introduced the meaning and importance of arrangement of description, the situation and problem of arrangement of description in The National Archives, and a description guideline in other foreign countries. The next is an example for ISAD(G). This paper has chapter 8, the chapter 1 is introduction, the chapter 2 is the meaning and importance of arrangement of description, excluding the chapter 8 is conclusion we can say like this from the chapter 3 to the chapter 7. In the chapter 3, we explain GOVT we are using now and description element category in situation and problem of arrangement of description in Archives. In the chapter 4, this is about guideline from Archives in U.S.A, England and Australia. 1. Lifecycle Date Requirement Guide from NARA is introduced and of the description field, the way of the description about just one title element is introduced. 2. This is about the guideline of the description from Public Record Office. That name is National Archives Cataloguing Guidelines Introduction. We are saying "PROCAT" from this guideline and the seven procedure of description. 3. This is about Commomon Record Series from National Archives of Australia. we studied Registration & description procedures for CRS system. In the chapter 5, This is about the example which applied ISAD to. Archives introduce description of documents produced from Appeals Commission in the Ministry of Government Administration. In the chapter 6, 7. These are about the problems we pointed after using ISAD, naming for the document at procedure section in every institution, the lack of description fields category, the sort or classification of the kind or form, the reference or identified number, the absence description rule about the details, function classification, multi-level description, input format, arrangement of book shelf, authority control. The plan for improving are that problems. The best way for arrangement and description in Archives is to examine the standard, guideline, manual from archives in the advanced countries. So we suggested we need many research and study about this in the academic field.

  • In recent years, the term "art archives" has become increasingly popular, with the growing use of archives in exhibitions and program planning within domestic cultural and arts institutions. The need for art archives has been raised for reasons such as establishing the identity of art and culture and providing basic resources for academic research; however, they are now being recognized as a direct resource and service for users. Accordingly, research has also been conducted on the values, policies, and management practices of art archives in the archiving field. Nevertheless, there is a lack of research on management methodologies that can be applied to institutions that manage art archives. In particular, for the efficient use of art archives, classification, organization, and systematic management of descriptive areas must be preceded. • The use of records has been regarded as the ultimate goal of preserving records, and reference services are considered key tasks in records management. Particularly in Korea where the importance of archives and records management is not recognized sufficiently, we need to help the public recognize the importance of institutions, managing archives, and archives kept in the archives, and create new uses. In order for archives to notify archives, institutions and managing archives to potential users, they can use publications, exhibitions and education programs. In foreign countries, services such as public programs and outreach services have already been being executed by archives in order to publicize the archives actively to the public, and various supports are provided so that people can use archives in educational activities. What is more, publishing and exhibition programs are also linked to education, which can increase the use of archives and promote archives culture. Thus, archives play important cultural and educational roles. As archives' roles are being expanded and local archives are being established compulsorily in Korea, archives should play their roles not just as administrative agencies collecting official documents but also as cultural and educational institutions providing various forms of information and education. Creating new demands for important archives by notifying such archives through public programs approaching users, they should find ways for laying the ground for their existence. The objectives of this study are to look for the method of public program operation suitable for the Korean situation, to define abilities and roles required to archives as program planners, and ultimately to increase the use of archives and contribute to the settlement of archives culture.
