문화 예술 공간으로 재활용된 오버하우젠의 가스탱크 재생사례 분석 (Analysis on the Characteristics of the Precedents for Industrial/Technological Cultural Properties of Oberhausen Gasometer that have been Recycled as Cultural Space)

  • Unlike traditional cultural assets, industrial assets are closely tied with contemporary life in numerous ways, and have acted as a bridge between the traditional architectural buildings and contemporary architectural buildings, reflecting the overall economical, social and cultural portraits of that time. Reinvestigating them in a new light, granting just and fair values, and preserving and transmitting these modern cultural heritages is a method of preserving the historical and cultural traditions in order to keep own identity and integrity. Nowadays, however, due to various sprawling developments and new development-oriented urban policies, only a select few industrial assets are being protected, the rest facing demolition and damages. In order to better cope with such situation, Korea has officially introduced the Registered Cultural Properties System since 2001, and began acknowledging the historical values of industrial buildings as modern cultural properties. By systematic analysis and deduction of characteristics from successfully recycled precedents such Oberhausen Gasometer in the state of Nordhein-Westfalen that have been preserved and recycled as cultural spaces, this paper aims to find and propose suggestions to rehabilitate and recycle the industrial cultural properties in Korea.

  • In the Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, there are approximately 3,500 industrial buildings under the cultural asset protection and management not only in the Ruhr-region but also state-wide. Unlike traditional cultural assets, industrial assets are closely tied with contemporary life in numerous ways, and have acted as a bridge between the traditional architectural buildings and contemporary architectural buildings, reflecting the overall economical, social and cultural portraits of that time. Reinvestigating them in a new light, granting just and fair values, and preserving and transmitting these modern cultural heritages is a method of preserving the historical and cultural traditions in order to keep own identity and integrity. 루이스 바라간 건축의 색채사용 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Characteristic of Color use Scheme in Luis Barragan's Architecture)

  • Luis Barragan's Architecture has creative feature that Mexican environment and traditional culture were complete by color. Thus the color of his work makes our emotions rich and colorful. He said "My architecture is autobiographical..." at speech in Pritz price. As we can see in his architectural philosophy that sentimental architecture is important than theorical system, his works are impression of empirical factor with intuition. "Color is a complement to the architecture. It serve to enlarge or reduce a space. It's also useful for adding that touch of magic a place needs", stated Barragan. During his process of shaping space, Barragan drew on color in the same way as an architectural component, according it a spatial funtion and expressive vale. he allied it with light, deeming it a crucial vehical for conveying the emotive attributes a site. The capacity of color to express sensitivity and sensuality within an architecture space is liked to its psycho-physiological qualities. In this kind of view, color featyre in Barragan's work is one of the most important tools to realize sentimental architecture, not only is result of the Mexican regional color. As a result, make focus on analyzing various meaning of the color in Barragan's architecture like poetic and habitable structure.

가칠장(假漆匠)의 성격과 역할 (The character and role of Gachiljang(假漆匠))

  • Gachiljang(假漆匠), along with Jinchiljang(眞漆匠), is an important craftsman who cannot be left out during the finishing process of wooden furniture and wooden buildings during the Joseon Dynasty. The current definition of Gachiljang does not properly explain the nature and role of Gachiljang. In many related terminology dictionaries, Gachiljang is defined as "artisan who dose the base paintwork of Dancheong." But an analysis of the Joseon Dynasty's Uigwe(儀軌) shows that Gachiljang appears frequently in works that are not related to Dancheong at all. Therefore the current definition seems to be inaccurate and need to be revised. Gachiljang is a name that contrasts with Jinchiljang, and he makes and paints Myongyu(明油). Just as Jinchiljang uses not only lacquer but also various pigments to paint colorful lacquer, Gachiljang also uses various pigments to decorate buildings or furniture in a fancy way and then finishs with a transparent paint. Even in the Dancheong(丹靑) work of the building, all the base painting and finish coating work will be in charge of Gachiljang, except for the paintings performed by the Whawon(畫員) or the Whasa(畫師).

  • Danish Modern has been recognized as simple and comfortable design movement that was matched with its unique regional environment. There are various internationally well known designers such as Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton. Danish Modern movement and International style had vital role to activate these designers' ideas and design quality. This paper aims to study the background and design characteristics of Danish Modern movement as well as some of the spatial projects by Arne Jacobsen. Furniture design of Jacobsen were already throughly studied in various researches. However his spatial projects such as architectural buildings and interior designs were not. This study analyzes three major architectural projects based on the four characteristics of Danish Modern: Formal Simplicity, Simple Functionality, Regional Contextuality, Reasonable Amusement. After the case study, this study discovered that Danish Modern characteristics had unique roles in the design process of Jacobsen's projects. Danish Modern is still valid design philosophy that can be applied to contemporary society.

렘 콜하스와 SANAA의 건축공간 특성분석을 통한 공간의 관계성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Relationship between Rem Kolhaas and SANAA through the Analysis of Architectural Space Characteristics)

  • 본 연구는 탈근대의 건축 공간을 고정되지 않고 지속적인 변화의 개념으로 보고, 변화하는 관계 네트워크로 건축 내 공간 요소를 이해하는 것을 목표로 한다. 연구의 목적은 관계성이라는 관점에서 렘 콜하스와 SANAA의 작품에 나타난 공간적 특성을 밝힘과 동시에 두 건축가의 공간구성 전략을 분석하는 것이다. 연구의 방법은 관계성의 대한 이론적 고찰을 통해 비고정적 관계성의 의미를 정의한 후 렘 콜하스와 SANAA의 건축적 접근방법에 대해 살펴보았다. 관계성을 공간의 프로그램, 환경, 사용자 그리고 가구와 집기로 구분하여 두 건축가의 작품 분석하였다. 결과적으로 두 건축가 모두 조직화에 의해 경직된 프로그램을 거부하고 가능성이 내재된 관계성을 건축공간 활성화 목적으로 활용하고 있다는 점에서는 유사하지만, 렘 콜하스는 사용자의 행위유발 기제의 전략을 사용하고 있는 반면, SANAA는 사용자의 자율적 행위를 담는 이완공간의 전략을 사용하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

춘천 조양루 목부재의 수종과 연륜연대 분석 (Species Identification and Tree-ring Dating of Wood Elements of Joyangru Pavilion, Chuncheon, Korea)

  • Joyangru, which is located in Woodo mountain in Chuncheon, Korea, was a gate tower of Monsogak. There are little historical records about Joyangru except of the 20th-century records. To study about Joyangru history, a dendrochronological analysis was conducted. We identified also the species of woods, We took 87 samples of wood elements for the species analysis and 13 samples for the dendrochronological analysis. We found 78 hard pines(Diploxylon), 4 Douglass-fir, 3 exotic hard pines(Pinus ponderosa type) and 1 Shorea sp.(Dipterocarpaceae). In the dendrochronological analysis, 2 floor flames were dated in 1887 (with complete sapwood) and 2 beams in 1884. We concluded that Joyangru was reconstructed just after 1888, most likely in 1890 together with Monsogak.

보은 회인향교 명륜당 목부재의 연륜연대 분석 (The Analysis of Tree-Ring Dates of Wood Elements Used for the Myengryundang Hall in Hoe-in Confucian Shrine, Boeungun, Chungbuk, Korea)

  • Hoein Hyanggyo is a confucian shrine at Hoein, Boeungun, Chungbuk, Korea. Using tree rings, we dated its lecture hall, Myengryundang which is a two-storied wooden structure with half-gabled and half-hipped roof. The woods of Myengryundang consisted mainly of lard pine (probably, Pinus densiflora). We collected 27 samples (4 columns, 2 beams, 5 purlins, 4 capitals, 8 floor frames/boards and 4 others). The results indicated that the major cutting year was A.D. 1702. This date helped to correct the miswritten Chinese-calender date which was recorded in the document for the framework-raising ceremony.

  • Through 1960 and 1970s, there had been constant endeavor in order to succeed the korean traditional architectural heritages. Among those efforts Ahn Yung Bae's book "Exterior Space in Traditional Korean Architecture"presented unique methodology utilizing abstraction of space and movement of subject. His method doesn't refer traditional form of architecture. He ignores formal elements. Instead, he reads space through subject's movement and this reading act creates meaning of space. So, he constructed knowledge not about the object of traditional architecture but the subject of today. Ahn's book opens new discourse based on traditional korean architecture. His analyses didn't deal with the form of traditional space, but the experiences of observer. However many historical documents related to architecture had not been interpreted until nineties and the succession of heritage became to be broken by modernity through 20th century. In this situation his book showed the unavoidable method, that is, the modernization of tradition.

한옥 유지관리매뉴얼 개발을 위한 결함 유형 현장 조사 (A Field Investigation of Defect Type for Development of Maintenance Manual of Han-ok)

  • To collection of field data for development of maintenance manual of Han-ok, we investigated defects which occurred in members of Han-ok by field investigation. The noticeable defects were wood cracks, gaps that developed between wood pillar and wall or wood window frame and tenon joints. The most common biological defect was blue stain which was created in log. The mold generation was observed on exterior wood and wall which get wet by precipitation. The gaps between members of Han-ok pointed out as defect that is urgently improved by residents of Han-ok. The reason is mainly due to poor of insulation in winter by bad confidentiality. The maintenance work of defect such as gap was conducted personally. As a result, the repair parts were ugly for unfamiliar repair work.
