  • The purpose of this study is to develop the web-based system for work performance analysis(WPAS). The need of work performance analysis system has already been suggested in many previous researches on the computerization of the performance measurement in the construction site by using the indicators such as time, cost and quality. However, they had focused on measuring or analyzing the result when the project would be over. The WPAS suggests three indicators - work reliability, work effectiveness and work efficiency - to manage the performance of the construction site. It can help the manager more easily recognize the status of on-going work in the construction site by measuring and analyzing the work reliability rate, the work effectiveness and work efficiency every day. This research includes the procedures for WPAS measurement process, database structure of WPAS which was analyzed by the IDEF0 and the data flow diagram. Finally, this research introduces the result of WAPS's case studies and validation in the Korean construction site.

  • The architectural design process is consisted of the phase of programming and the phase of the design. The contemporary architectural scheme, as a datascape, a rhizome structure and a diagram, is based on the concept of modern physics. And it is applied on the phase of design by synthesizing data. Like this, the design of the architectural field is accomplished in the phase of design. For design of the architectural field, the characteristics of the architectural field is considered as the viewpoint of design in the procedure. First, according to the area which is defined by relations of environments, around architectures and so on, the net system of relations is designed as area. Second, design the linkage between building and space, building and building, space and space, according to the correspondence each other. Third, design the method or form of connecting building and space to one as a building and a space are no longer divided but are understood by one. As a result, for the design of architectural field, it is necessary to define the criteria by the characteristics of architectural field and the architectural field is designed by process.

  • While architectural patterns provide software development solutions by providing schemas for structural organizations of software systems based on empirical knowledge, Jackson's problem frames provide a method of analyzing software problems. Problem frames are useful to understanding the software development problem, by putting emphasis on the problem domain, rather than on the solution space. Research exists that relates problem frames and software architecture, but most of this research uses problem frames only to understand given problems. Moreover, none of the existing research derives architectural patterns by considering both problem frames and quality attributes. In this paper, we propose a software architecture design method for pattern-based architecture design, by matching problem frames and architectural patterns. To that end, our approach first develops the problem model based on the problem frames approach, and then uses it to match with candidate architectural patterns, from the perspectives of both functionality, and quality attributes. Functional matching uses the problem frame diagram to match the problem model of an architectural pattern. We conduct a case study to show that our approach can systematically decide the right architectural patterns, and provide a basis for fine-grained software architecture design.

  • Linear scheduling method limits to present works of work breakdown structure as a form of lines and was often developed manually. In other words, linear schedule could not utilize activity, work breakdown structure, and etc. information of network schedule such as CPM(Critical Path Method) and has been used only for reporting or confirming construction master plan. Therefore, it is necessary to develop system which can automatically generating the linear schedule based on the network schedule having many accumulated and useful construction schedule information. Thus, this research has an effort to establish data process model, data flow diagram, and data model in order to make linear schedule. In addition, this research addresses the system solution structure, user interface class diagram and logic diagram, and data type schema. The results of this paper can be used as a preliminary research for developing linear schedule generating system prototype by utilizing the network schedule information.

  • Whilst there are growing interests in pursuing energy efficiency and zero-energy buildings in built environment, it is widely recognised that Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) is one of the most promising and required technologies to achieve these goals in recent years. Although BIPV is a broadly utilized technique in variety of fields in built environments, it is required that generation of BIVP should be analysed and calculated by external specialists. The aim of this research is to focus on developing a new diagram for prediction of the pre-estimation model in early design stage to harness solar radiation data, PV types, slopes, azimuth and so forth. The results of this study show as follows: 1) We analysed 162 districts in a national level and the examined areas were categorised into five zones. The standard deviation of the results was 2.9 per cent; 2) The increased value of solar radiation on a vertical plane in five categorised zones was 42kWh/m3, and the result was similar to the average value of 43.8kWh/m3; and 3) The pre-estimation of diagram was developed based on the categorisation of zones and azimuth as well as the results of the developed diagram showed little difference compared to the previously utilised method. The suggested diagram in this paper will contribute to estimate BIPV without any external contribution to calculate the value. Even though the result of this study shows little difference, it is required to investigate a number of different variables such as BIPV types, modules, slope angle and so forth in order to develop an integrated pre-estimation diagram.

  • In the design process of modern architecture, diagrams are most commonly used as tools of explanation and creation. Many architects use diagrams in the process of explaining or creating their own works, and the concept of programs and diagrams expressing them are accepted by audiences as part of creative work in the process of actual architectural design beyond the role of a medium. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the various uses of architects through diagrams in the construction process and the operation process of diagrams applied in the design process by defining diagrams by era as a tool to show the process of building space over the past 30 years.

  • Rip current forecasts, based on intensity, are marked in four levels—notice, watch, warning, and danger. However, numerical results are represented by current vectors, whose magnitudes are then converted into predictive levels. In the present study, the rose diagram is adapted as a determinative forecasting index and examined for the case of an ideal rip channel consisting of surface, bottom, and averaged currents. Further, it is employed in the sensitivity analysis of wave-induced currents generated by wave conditions at the Haeundae Beach. The simulation of surface onshore and bottom undertow currents is accomplished by including a mass flux term in the wave-averaged continuity equation.

  • This work explores the historical transformation of manual landscape architectural drawings in terms of hybridization to uncover their inherent creative aspect. Landscape architectural drawing has duel functions; namely, scientific instrumentality and artistic imagination, which are relative, interchangeable, and transformable. These characteristics have been embodied in the forms of particular types of drawing, projections, perspective views, and diagrams, which are not so much clearly distinguishable as rather mutually complementary and hybridized. In particular, the pictorial views of plants in the forms of a perspective view or elevation were frequently hybridized to projection drawings of grounds and architectural structures, which is called planometrics. Particular drawing types have often emerged as suitable and thereby dominant forms, depending on the particular historical styles of landscape design. Sixteenth-century Italian Renaissance gardens and seventeenth-century French formal gardens were generally visualized in the form of projections. Eighteenth-century and early nineteenth-century English landscape gardens were frequently represented in a pictorial perspective view. In nineteenth-century America, different drawing techniques such as competition drawing, photography, and map overlay were specialized depending on their respective functions. Twentieth-century American modernists began to explore the diagram to deploy design strategies. In such transformation, however, the planometric, which considers both the ground plane and plant's frontal identities simultaneously and thereby is suitable to landscape design, was frequently used as a hybridization technique. In the mid-nineteenth century, a top view of plants replaced the planometric, and then, in the twentieth century, plants were no longer represented artistically, instead reduced to the forms of standardized flat symbols. The use of instrumental visualizations thereby gradually increased rather than the use of an imaginative representation for landscape architectural drawings.

  • Building information modeling (BIM) can help to visualize and manage the building-related information at the object-based level, and it is possible to help link the tasks in the network of Hanok construction. While many studies have significant interest in using BIM for modern construction, there is only few studies to observe the use of BIM for traditional construction, commonly called Hanok construction in South Korea. Hence, the main goal of this study is to develop a system dynamic model for investigating how the BIM can be widely used for Hanok construction. To this end, this study identified the factors influencing the BIM uses for the Hanok construction, developed a causal loop diagram (CLD) to investigate the interrelationships among the factors, and provided a final model based on the mathematical definitions. Based on the scenario analysis, it is demonstrated that the support to building Hanok and education cost for BIM positively influence activating and using the BIM for the Hanok construction. Based on the dynamics of the factors identified in this study, it is important to consider expanding support for Hanok construction and education cost for BIM to successfully integrate and utilize BIM in the construction industry.
