  • The differential equations governing free, in-plane vibrations of linearly elastic circular arches with variable cross-sections are derived and solve numerically for quadratic arches with three types of rectangular cross sections. Frequencies, mode shapes, cross-sectional load distributions, and the effects of rotatory inertia on frequencies are reported. Experimental measurements of frequencies and their corresponding mode shapes agree closely with those predicted by theory. The numerical methods presented here for computing frequencies and mode shapes are efficient and reliable.

  • In this paper, a fingerprint classification algorithm is presented. Fingerprint types are classified into five categories: arch, tented arch, left loop, right loop and whorl. Singular points (cores and deltas) are detected using Poincare index on the directional image smoothed by adaptive window size. The method is shown to be robust to the variation of fingerprint image qualaity.

  • This study was designed to investigate the displacements and reaction forces of teeth caused by the application of the rectangular shape-memory arch wires with curve of Spee. Computer-aided three dimensional finite element method was adopted. This finite element model consists of brick element for teeth, beam element for the wire, and contact element for the periodontal ligament. And the application of the MEAW(Multiloop Edgewise Arch Wire) was also studied so that the results of the two methods can be compared each other. Total number of the nodes and elements were found to be 5925 and 4031, repectively. In addition, several types of elastics and corresponding displacements and reaction forces were examined. The findings of this study were as follows: 1. When the rectangular shape-memory arch wire with curve of Sun was used alone, the intrusion and labioversion was noticeable on the upper incisors, while the upper molars showed less intrusion. With MEAW, the intrusion and labioversion of the upper incisors were slightly larger than those when the shape-memory arch wire was used, but on the upper molars the opposite result was obtained with respect to the intrusion. 2. The shape-memory arch wire with the vertical elastics caused the larger downward displacement on the upper canine than that when the MEAW was used with the vertical elastics. However, the downward displacement of the upper incisors was larger in MEAW. The uprighting and buccoversion of the molars were observed in both cases. 3. The use of the Class II or III elastics showed the extrusion and changes in torque of the corresponding teeth. The downward displacement of the upper canine was increased when the Class II and vertical elastics were applied simultaneously, but it was decreased when both of the Class III and vertical elastics were used.

  • This research is focus on the analysis of bridge image and preference. In this study, 3 types of bridge with arch bridge, cable stayed bridge, and suspension bridge, 4 prospect points named A, B, C, and D will be simulated in one scene for final analysis of bridge image and preference. On prospect point A, higher evaluation is received among the arch bridge. In addition, for cable stayed bridge and suspension bridge, the Higher evaluation is received among the most at the arch bridge on prospect point B. At the on prospect point C, higher evaluation is received among the most cable stayed bridge and suspension bridge compared with arch bridge. At the on prospect point D, lower evaluation is received among the cable stayed bridge and suspension bridge compared with arch bridge. The highest average total preference is received for cable stayed bridge. And, The lowest average total preference is received for arch bridge. Cable stayed bridge is suitable for the Baegya Bridge than arch bridge in the Landscape point. In conclusion, the preference for one bridge is not the same at different prospect points through above research.

  • It is important to assess foot posture when investigating the relationship between lower extremity dysfunctions and foot types. Although several measurements of static foot posture have been used, there is no consensus regarding clinical measurements for foot posture. The aim of this study is to explore the differences among navicular drift (NDt), foot posture index (FPI), arch index (AI), dorsal arch height ratio (DAHR), normal navicular height truncated (NNHt) and to discover the most effective measurement. After foot types were classified by navicular drop test (NDp), clinical measurements of NDt, FPI, AI, DAHR, and NNHt were performed on 64 subjects' feet. ANOVA analysis was used for the variance of the difference between the NDp and the five kinds of clinical measurements, and the level of significance was set at ${\alpha}$=.05. The results showed that all five clinical measurements demonstrated significant differences with navicular drop. In post-hoc, FPI and NNHt showed significant differences in all foot types. The five clinical measurements are suitable the classification of foot types through the NDp. Therefore, it could be possible to assess correct and objective foot posture by using FPI and NNHt.

  • The collapsing accidents of greenhouse frames have been increased yearly due to strong wind and heavy snow, but as it was, there were few studies about the structural safety of greenhouses. Therefore, this study was carried out to develop the stress tolerant structural frame systems in built-up greenhouses. The vertical loading experiment of developed scale models were implemented and the developed types of models were simulated by 3-D analysis program in this study. These types of models, which are existing type and honeycomb type, in arch and standard style frames were classified. As a result of this study, it was verified that the honeycomb type model of arch style frame is better than the existing type model of it in stress resistance against snow load and wind load.

  • A Precast frame system with hybrid beam-column connections was proposed in this study. An analytical study evaluated the system under seismic loadings. Four buildings with different heights were modeled in which each building had three types of joint details (A. B, C). Thus, twelve buildings were examined with variables such as building height and joint detail. Four earthquake records were applied to the buildings as input ground motions. All the records were normalized to the intensity of 0.25g to assess behavior under the same intensity of seismic excitation. All the joint types showed almost identical results except for the Mexico earthquake which was scaled up from 0. 1g to 0.25g. Buildings with the type C joint exhibited the largest deflection for the Mexico earthquake. It was concluded that type B joint could be used in a high seismic zone and the type C joint could possibly be used in the regions of low to medium seismic activity.
