  • This study investigated the types and characteristics of arcade games that have marked the beginning of the game industry. Arcade game equipment have been largely evolved from 'mechanical arcade game equipment' to 'electro-mechanical arcade game equipment', and to 'video arcade game equipment' In these evolution processes, arcade games have had unique characteristics distinct from other game platforms. These characteristics included the properties of 'space' and 'time', 'original form of gameplay', 'simple interface' and 'performance feasibility.' The recent stagnation of arcade games was due to the fact that the characteristics of arcade games started to lose their unique characteristics since these were also spread to other platform of games.

  • The arcade gun has been a popular game controller in the video game market from the 1970s. The arcade gun, which is used partially in game centers and domestic games, recently is utilized as the interface for the interactive system and tangible media. On the other hand, the existing arcade gun has limits on hardware so it is unsuitable for wide screens. In addition, being platform-dependent, it is inapplicable to various types of content as a single module. This study suggests a correction algorithm that establishes an arcade gun system based on an infrared camera to solve those drawbacks and apply to possibly numerous surroundings.

  • In this paper, we suggest a game system that can support network modules for multi-platform based video games, and built a system that can convert from a single-user game to multi-user game. In this system, we bring in an initial delay buffering scheme on clients to handle any periods of latency occurring from the load fluctuation in a network, when a real-time game is played, and shows that stable play for a game is achieved as the result of the scheme. This paper also presents a retransmission algorithm based on the history of game commands to handle drawbacks of UDP mechanism. And, we evaluate the network delay and packet loss using the simulation tool NS2, and shows the case of 0.3 second buffer delay is the most suitable for recovery.

  • This study examined the effects of short and long term playing of video gamer on children's visual parallel processing. All of the 64 fourth grade subjects were above average in IQ. They were classified into high and low video game users. Instruments were a visual parallel processing task consisting of imagery integration items, computers, and the arcade video game, Pac-Man. Subjects were pre-tested with a visual parallel processing task. After one week, the experimental group played video games for 15 minutes, but the control group didn't play. Immediately following this, all children were post-tested by the same task used on the pretest. The data was analyzed by ANCOVA and repeated measures ANOVA. The results showed that relaying short-term video games improved visual parallel processing and that long term experience with video games also affected visual parallel processing. there were no differences between high and low users in visual parallel processing after playing short term video games.

But among those rapidly sought out sub-cultures, the video gaming industry, once a niche market mostly for nerds and geeks, now has become one of the biggest entertainment businesses in the world. In a video game, one of the critical elements that could determine its success or failure is the characters featured in the game. And as the countless number of animated characters from many different video games from the past few years have become incredibly popular among the audiences around the world, the expectations from the fans also grow higher every time a new game comes out. Ultimately this has forced the video game developers to come up with more unique and interesting characters for their video games. And at this point, where a video game character is more than just fictional fantasy but a brand to be recognized, it is worth paying proper attention to the video game characters that represent Korea. Hence in this study, we will take a look at Han Ju-Ri, a Korean character featured in Super Street Fighter IV, a competitive fighting game developed by Capcom, one of the world's most recognized video game companies that started its life as an arcade video game, developer but eventually ventured its business into the online world. The study will propose a complete overhaul of the character by incorporating Korea's own traditional looks.

  • Game Rating Board(GRB) of Korea set up in 29 October, 2006 has been 7th years and it will disappear in 23 November, 2013. For the first time the 'GRB' of Korea has the goal which held the nonofficial transfer of rating classification for game. But it had the justification which become more distant from the nonofficial transfer due to the affairs of 'See Story' in August, 2006. As a result, because of rapid normalization of game rating rather than the systematic transfer from 'Video Rating Board' of Korea cause no preparation of scientific professional rating review. It showed the entry-level appearance though stressing profession from the beginning of setup. Specially more transaction expense were increased because of no consistency and predictability for game review. However, it could be overcome by preparation for definite global standard and scientific rating system. Consequently technological possibility of BMM Korea based on 'Gaming Laboratory Institute(GLI)' standard expected to be alternative in the technical review of the adult arcade game.
