This paper describes the effect of secondary surges entering low voltage side on the primary winding of pole transformers. After having connected the secondary winding by 4 different methods, surge voltages were applied to the low voltage side, and voltage waveforms were measured at a surge applied point and a high voltage bushing terminal. The measured voltages were compared by the waveform, magnitude and damping characteristics with each connection. As a result, the voltage waveforms induced by the secondary surges were different one another with each connection, especially, the conventional connecting method for 2 voltage sources was far different from the present method supplying only 1 voltage source in shape of the voltage waveform.

High voltage AC electric field has been applied to turbulent propane jets to investigate the effect of electric field on liftoff characteristics. Liftoff velocity and liftoff height have been measured by varying the applied voltage and frequency. Liftoff velocities were delayed and liftoff heights were reduced by applying AC, not by DC. The electric effect became disappeared with further increasing jet velocities, which shows that the effect can be explained by the balance between inertia force and electric force. The flame stabilization effect was intensified as either applied voltage or frequency increased. Plasma streamers were generated between the flame and the jet under high voltage conditions. Liftoff velocity in the absence of plasma can be well correlated by the function of voltage and frequency.
The effects on the characteristics of 20-W fluorescent lamp were studied when applying magnetic field to its positive column. First, when the direction of the magnetic field is axial, i.e., along the lamp, if the magnitude of the field is stronger than the critical field, lamp voltage is increased, lamp current decreased, luminous flux increased, starting voltage decreased, as increasing the applied magnetic field. At the magnetic flux density is 130 gauss, luminous flux is increased to about 6 percents and starting voltage is increased to about 45 percents. Second, when the direction of the magnetic field is transverse to the lamp axis, as increasing the applied magnetic field, lamp voltage is increased, lamp current decreased, luminous flux increased and starting voltage is nearly constant, but the rates of increase or decrease of this case is different from those of the first. At the magnetic flux density is 300 gauss, luminous flux is increased about 45 percents. In both cases, electric power dissipated by lamps is the same as that of the lamp which magnetic field is not applied to.
An experiment was conducted to characterize water droplet charging performance of an electrostatic spraying nozzle for an electrostatic wet scrubber. Charge-to-mass ratios, the nozzle currents divided by the mass flow rate of water were obtained with respect to the applied voltage to the ring-electrode for 2 different flow conditions. It was shown that the charge-to-mass ratio increased in proportion to the applied voltage and tended to saturate at a certain higher voltage.
In this study, we analyzed the $NO_X$ removal efficiency and particle size distribution by the pulsed corona discharge process and investigated the effect of several process variables. The NO removal efficiencies and the particle characteristics were measured and analyzed as the function of initial concentrations of NO, $H_2O$, and $NH_3$, applied voltage, pulse frequency and residence time. As the frequency of applied voltage increases, or as the applied voltage increases or as the residence time increases, the NO removal efficiency increases. The change of initial $NH_3$ and $H_2O$ concentrations do not affect the NO removal efficiency significantly. The particle concentration and size increases with the increases of initial NO concentration, residence time and applied voltage.
We have been measuring the voltage differences by using submarine cables in the Tsushima and in the Tokara Straits. The aim of these measurements is to estimate the volume transports of the ocean currents through those straits. In this paper, the voltage differences are compared with the corresponding sea level and air pressure differences between straits. Especially in the Tsushima Strait, the voltage difference is consistent with the air pressure difference as well as the sea level difference.
Vertical growth of iridium-catalyzed carbon nanofibers could be selectively grown on the MgO substrate using microwave plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition method. Growth positions of the iridium-catalyzed carbon nanofibers on the MgO substrate could be manipulated according to the applied bias voltage. At-150 V, the carbon nanofibers growth was confined only at the corner area of the substrate. Based on these results, we discussed the cause for the confinement of the vertically grown carbon nanofibers on the specific area of the MgO substrate as a function of the applied bias voltage.
In the common rail fuel injection system, which is the core of diesel high efficiency and NOX reduction, injection strategies such as high pressure injection of fuel, accurate injection rate control, and multistage injection are important to increase fuel atomization. In this study, the bypass type piezo injector for the electronic control based common rail injection system applied to diesel fuel vehicle was studied. In particular, the injection rate and internal fuel flow characteristics of the high-pressure injector according to the piezo stacking number and applied voltage were analyzed by theoretical numerical method. When the applied voltage changes, it is determined that additional fuel flow through the bypass compensates for the reduced valve driving force due to the change in the driving voltage.

We investigated the effect of applied voltage and electrolyte concentration on the nitrate removal and its energy/current efficiency during the electrodialysis. The current increased as the applied voltage increased up to 30 V showing the limiting current density around 20 V. The nitrate removal efficiency (31 to 71% in 240 min) and energy consumption (11 to $77W{\cdot}h/L$) gradually increased as the applied voltage increased from 10 to 30 V. The highest current efficiency was obtained at 20 V. The increase in electrolyte concentration from 100 to 500 mM led to the dramatic increase of nitrate removal efficiency with much faster removal kinetics (100 % in 10 min).

In this paper, we present new method to analyze the space charge effect on the electrical characteristics in polymer. It is new measurement system and analysis method that have not reported yet. By using this measurement system, we make observation to space charge accumulated on the surface of polymer at AC voltage, so it is examined to verify the correlation of space charge and partial discharge(PD). In the result of experiment, it can be known that PD pattern is related more closely to space charge accumulated on the surface of polymer than in the inner part, and applied voltage in the air is ruled by this dynamic partial discharge. Also, above critical voltage, the space charge accumulated on the surface of polymer have no effect to the magnitude of PD and the applied voltage in the air. It has been known that the electric power of the dissolution system is proportioned to the frequency and the magnitude of applied voltage, but we can know by this result of the experiment that the efficiency of the dissolution is not related to the rise of voltage above critical voltage.
