Performance and Stability Evaluation of Muscle Activation (EMG) Measurement Electrodes According to Layer Design (근활성도(EMG) 측정 전극 레이어 설계에 따른 성능 및 안정성 평가)

  • This study aims to develop electromyography (EMG) textile electrodes and assess their performance and signal stability by examining variations in layer count and fabric types. We fabricated the electrodes through layering and pressing techniques, focusing on configurations with different layer counts (Layer-0, Layer-1, and Layer-2). Our findings indicate that layer presence significantly influences muscle activation measurements, with enhanced performance correlated with increased layer numbers. Subsequently, we created electrodes from five distinct fabrics (neoprene, spandex cushion, 100% polyester, nylon spandex, and cotton canvas), each maintaining a Layer-2 structure. In performance tests, nylon spandex fabric, particularly heavier variants, outperformed others, while the spandex cushion electrodes showed superior stability in muscle activation signal acquisition. This research elucidates the connection between electrode performance and factors like layer number and electrode-skin contact area. It suggests a novel approach to electrode design, focusing on layer properties and targeted pressure application on specific sensor areas, rather than uniformly increasing sleeve pressure.

Guidelines for Mobile Phone User Interface Development (휴대폰 User Interface 개발을 위한 가이드라인)

  • The importance of User Interface (UI) in mobile phone has increased as the complexity of use increases due to the new technology adoption. The complexity and load for user interface development has increased accordingly. This paper discusses how to make a structured UI development process based on the mobile phone UI development case. After the review of UI development process and issues arising during the development, four levels of user interface guidelines are proposed such as macro rules, action templates, application rules and interaction cases. The importance of dealing various interaction case is emphasized which is not referred in the present industry UI guidelines. Most of research related to UI development focus on the target product rather than how to make good UI process. Based on the good UI process, good UI of the product can be realized. This proposed process based on UI guidelines will help to step up the UI development of mobile phone industry. Also, this process can be applied to different products or services.

  • In hypothesis testing, the interpretation of a statistic obtained from the data analysis relies on a probabilistic distribution of the statistic constructed according to several statistical theories. For instance, the statistical significance of a mean difference between experimental conditions is determined according to a probabilistic distribution of the mean differences (e.g., Student's t) constructed under several theoretical assumptions for population characteristics. The present study explored the logic and advantages of random-resampling approach for analyzing event-related potentials (ERPs) where a hypothesis is tested according to the distribution of empirical statistics that is constructed based on randomly resampled dataset of real measures rather than a theoretical distribution of the statistics. To motivate ERP researchers' understanding of the random-resampling approach, the present study further introduced a specific example of data analyses where a random-permutation procedure was applied according to the random-resampling principle, as well as discussing several cautions ahead of its practical application to ERP data analyses.

An Exploratory Approach to Textile Designer's Cognition Model -focused on the Stage of Motif Development- (텍스타일 디자이너의 인지 모형에 대한 탐색적 접근 -모티브 개발 단계를 중심으로-)

  • This study was an exploratory approach to the cognitive model of textile designers on the stage of motif development in textile design process. Prior to the main research, several previous studies adopting methods of video/audio protocol analysis were reviewed. On the basis of the review, the categories of design action were derived as an analysis frame by application of top-down access method, meanwhile the sub-groups of each category of design action were identified through a bottom-up access method. To summarize the research result, total three categories of textile design action appeared based on the theory of ‘Human processor’ model : ‘motor action’, ‘perceptual action’ and 'cognitive action'. In next, a new coding scheme suitably explaining these three categories of fertile design action was developed. Finally, a cognitive model of textile designer on the stage of motif development, employing the new coding scheme, was suggested in this study.

  • This is a study on operation system's application method for leading-in public bike operation system through researching on case study at home and abroad, and situation research in Naju city. In the 1st research, studied about the main problems showed at application cases of public bike system at domestic and overseas, such as using time, danger for be stolen and damaged. 2nd research focuses on necessarily of leading-in operation system to be used easily by city residents and travelers of Naju City which is the scheduled city for leading-in public bike system. 3rd research is on the basis of the result showed in 1st and 2nd research, supplied some problems' solving method for France Veblib System, such as lending and rental process using mobile, system operation process, communication process. Also, supplied the application method for problems showed at 1st and 2nd research and civil service proposal. The leading-in method study on public bike operation system was done through above research, also case study at home and abroad, situation study, and rental program module development, and this operation system is worked as an model operation system in Naju City. The future study of leading-in operation system will be more effective by means of summing up test running result.

A Study on the Usage and Improvement of the Color Image Scale (색채감성척도의 사용현황 분석 및 개선에 대한 연구)

  • This study seeks to identify usage behaviors and improvement factors to increase the academic and practical application of value the of color image scales. For this purpose, the authors discuss the positive and negative perspectives on the evaluation of previous studies on color image scales. Furthermore, a survey was conducted with 25 color experts who have been working in the field for over five years, and in-depth interviews were conducted with five of them. The contents of the survey are usage behaviors, evaluation, and the improvement of Kobayashi and IRI color image scales. In this process, emotional adjectives that need improvement were derived, and the opinions of experts related to improvements were collected. The analysis results are as follows. 1) As a result of the usage behaviors, 92% were aware of both color image scales. Moreover, 44% used both, and 56% used only one. 2) Regarding familiarity and trust, IRI was higher than Kobayashi. 3) A total of 88% of respondents stated that color image scales were necessary. A total of 43.6% of respondents, the largest group of respondents, indicated that color image scales are necessary in the field of practice. 4) Regarding the need for improvement, 88% responded that IRI color image scales need improvement. 5) The highest response to the factors requiring improvement was the reflection of the times, which was 31.9% for Kobayashi and 30.9% for IRI. 6) When improving color image scales, the adjectives that need to be treated as the most important were shown to be modern (15.8%) → natural, romantic, wild (8.8%) → dynamic (7.0%) → classic, casual, chic (5.3%). In conclusion, limitations were identified in the use of color image scales in practice and in the research areas, and there was a demand for correction and supplementation. The results of this study will serve as a foundational study related to color image scales, and it is expected that subsequent research related to color image scales will follow.

Hi, KIA! Classifying Emotional States from Wake-up Words Using Machine Learning (Hi, KIA! 기계 학습을 이용한 기동어 기반 감성 분류)

  • This study explored users' emotional states identified from the wake-up words -"Hi, KIA!"- using a machine learning algorithm considering the user interface of passenger cars' voice. We targeted four emotional states, namely, excited, angry, desperate, and neutral, and created a total of 12 emotional scenarios in the context of car driving. Nine college students participated and recorded sentences as guided in the visualized scenario. The wake-up words were extracted from whole sentences, resulting in two data sets. We used the soundgen package and svmRadial method of caret package in open source-based R code to collect acoustic features of the recorded voices and performed machine learning-based analysis to determine the predictability of the modeled algorithm. We compared the accuracy of wake-up words (60.19%: 22%~81%) with that of whole sentences (41.51%) for all nine participants in relation to the four emotional categories. Accuracy and sensitivity performance of individual differences were noticeable, while the selected features were relatively constant. This study provides empirical evidence regarding the potential application of the wake-up words in the practice of emotion-driven user experience in communication between users and the artificial intelligence system.

A Study on Design Application for Signboard Arrangement of Jeonju Traditional Korean Style House Village (전주한옥마을 간판정비를 위한 디자인 적용방법에 관한 연구)

  • This study has been prepared based on signboard arrangement works in order to foster Jeonju traditional Korean style house village as a main city of traditional culture. Overall composition has been suggested based on basic direction of signboard design in order to ensure design standardization method and utilization and right installation of various signboards. Enquete had been progressed by dividing into three areas including general characteristics of Korean style house village, acquisition of information and mobility and regulation/range of signboard with taking 600 number of persons from Jeonju citizens, outsiders and residents of Korean style house village as targets. Based on above result, design concept and detailed sign application method had been defined and pictogram and signboard installation method of Korean style house was suggested. As for the administrative procedure and regulations of signboard arrangement, cooperative method among Jeonju City, publicity company, deliberation committee and local residents and administrative project implementation method were suggested. Therefore, this study had summarized the project progress of signboard design for Jeonju traditional Korean style house village so that it may be utilized as a basic data for ensuring that this village would be developed as a region where tradition and history will be well conserved in the future through consultation with the relevant authorities.

Usability Evaluation of Artificial Intelligence Search Services Using the Naver App (인공지능 검색 서비스 활용에 따른 서비스 사용성 평가: 네이버 앱을 중심으로)

  • In the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, artificial intelligence (AI) has become one of the core technologies in terms of the business strategy among information technology companies. Both international and domestic major portal companies are launching AI search services. These AI search services utilize voice, images, and other unstructured data to provide different experiences from existing text-based search services. An unfamiliar experience is a factor that can hinder the usability of the service. Therefore, the usability testing of the AI search services is necessary. This study examines the usability of the AI search service on the Naver App 8.9.3 beta version by comparing it with the search services of the current Naver App and targets 30 people in their 20s and 30s, who have experience using Naver apps. The usability of Smart Lens, Smart Voice, Smart Around, and AiRS, which are the Naver App beta versions of their artificial intelligence search service, is evaluated and statistically significant usability changes are revealed. Smart Lens, Smart Voice, and Smart Around exhibited positive changes, whereas AiRS exhibited negative changes in terms of usability. This study evaluates the change in usability according to the application of the artificial intelligence search services and investigates the correlation between the evaluation factors. The obtained data are expected to be useful for the usability evaluation of services that use AI.

The Reminding Words Evaluation Method for Icon Design (연상단어 평가를 통한 아이콘 디자인 연구)

  • As the importance of interface became emphasized recently, function of icon as an element that helps operation and formative function as an aesthetic element are becoming emphasized. Specially, various research methodologies for measuring the understanding degree of users are being attempted in functional aspect, however, they are facing limitations as user evaluation method of quantitative investigation for statistical analysis became overly dependent on the consent from majority. To overcome such limitation, a methodology of measuring sensibility as aesthetic impression or individuality based on the system of emotion or system of understanding of users and designing icon based on the measurement is being attempted continuously. Therefore, this study suggested an evaluation method using reminding words and conducted an empirical study to apply results on the icon design by applying the evaluation method on icon design of printing products to measure the user sensibility and understanding level. Through this process, this study intended to research summaries on the design evaluation method which based on the evaluation of user sensibility and understanding level and to debate effective design methodologies through the process of applying these summaries on the project. The intention was to progress discussion from practical application perspectives apart from the textbook type discussion by applying a research methodology through concrete cases. This study objectified sensibility and understanding level of users in the icon design aspect, suggested a methodology that can be applied on the design, and it is expected to be used when progressing the icon and GUI design.
