  • For disaster exploration and surveillance application, this paper aims to present a novel application of a multi-robot agent based on WSN and to evaluate a multi-hop communication caused by the robotics correspondingly, which are used in the uncertain and unknown subterranean tunnel. A Primary-Scout Multi-Robot System (PS-MRS) was proposed. A chain topology in a subterranean environment was implemented using a trimmed ZigBee2006 protocol stack to build the multi-hop communication network. The ZigBee IC-CC2530 modular circuit was adapted by mounting it on the PS-MRS. A physical experiment based on the strategy of PS-MRS was used in this paper to evaluate the efficiency of multi-hop communication and to realize the delivery of data packets in an unknown and uncertain underground laboratory environment.

  • User interface for cancer classification system is a software application with clinician's friendly tools and functions to diagnose cancer from pathology images. Pathology evolved from manual diagnosis to computer-aided diagnosis with the help of Artificial Intelligence tools and algorithms. In this paper, we explained each block of the project life cycle for the implementation of automated breast cancer classification software using AI and machine learning algorithms to classify normal and invasive breast histology images. The system was designed to help the pathologists in an automatic and efficient diagnosis of breast cancer. To design the classification model, Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) stained breast histology images were obtained from the ICIAR Breast Cancer challenge. These images are stain normalized to minimize the error that can occur during model training due to pathological stains. The normalized dataset was fed into the ResNet-34 for the classification of normal and invasive breast cancer images. ResNet-34 gave 94% accuracy, 93% F Score, 95% of model Recall, and 91% precision.

  • Reliability in safety-critical systems and equipment is of vital importance, so the probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) has been widely used for many years in the nuclear industry to address reliability in a quantitative manner. As many nuclear power plants (NPPs) become digitalized, evaluating the reliability of safety-critical software has become an emerging issue. Due to a lack of available methods, in many conventional PSA models only hardware reliability is addressed with the assumption that software reliability is perfect or very high compared to hardware reliability. This study focused on developing a new method of safety-critical software reliability quantification, derived from hardware-software integrated environment testing. Since the complexity of hardware and software interaction makes the possible number of test cases for exhaustive testing well beyond a practically achievable range, an importance-oriented testing method that assures the most efficient test coverage was developed. Application to the test of an actual NPP reactor protection system demonstrated the applicability of the developed method and provided insight into complex software-based system reliability.

  • Developing control functions that operate and cooperate each equipment in order to achieve a goal is one of the most important problems in the installation of automated manufacturing systems. This paper discusses the development of a control system for heterarchical architecture and a simulator to verify operations of the control system. The object-oriented paradigm that has excellent reusability, portability, and extensibility is currently being used in many application fields as a software development methodology. Especially, UML(Unified Modeling Language), the third generation object-oriented modeling methodology, has advantages such as model generalization, clearness, and so on. In this research, software objects to accomodate the real time environments of automated manufacturing systems are modeled with the diagrams of UML. Based on these models, control software is developed as a format of pseudo-codes. A simulator is implemented to validate the developed control system.

  • Due to rapid development of mobile device technologies, the mobile banking through Internet has become a major service of banking information systems as a security-critical information systems. Recently, lots of mobile banking information systems which handle personal and transaction information have been exposed to security threats in vulnerable security control and management processes, mainly software systems. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a process model for software security improvements in mobile banking information system by application of fault tree analysis(FTA) and failure modes and effects analysis(FMEA) on the most important activities such as 'user authentication' and 'access control' and 'virus detection and control' processes which security control and management of mobile banking information systems are very weak.

  • In this paper, we propose a testing method of the quality of device application effectively reflecting the necessity of increasing mobile device application quality test, and designed and developed it as a web system. We have studied traditional software testing methods for designing and developing a system. We have developed a next-generation alternative technology that can analyze and compensate for the weaknesses of the web and weaknesses of the Android in order to realize the access system and the responsive web system. As an example applied to the system, we analyzed the requirements of the system implementation and expressed the functions of the system through the use case diagram. The test scenarios were conducted by connecting 5,000 devices to each system using the existing HTTP polling method and the proposed web socket method. After setting the comparative group, the result of the proposed web management system was observed and compared through repeated tests. The research shows that the proposed web socket system has better performance than HTTP polling. The more the number of simultaneous processing of the devices, the lower the server stability but the better the time efficiency. In conclusion, the more the number of devices to be tested is, the more the number of devices can be effectively tested using the proposed web management system.

  • Future sub-meter resolution LEO missions require simultaneous dual-polarization downlink and/or multiple channel downlinks in single polarization. Especially, dual-polarization is needed to cope with bandwidth limitation due to high speed data transmission. Current KARI 13m X-Band antenna system needs to be upgraded to cope with such downlink schemes. This paper describes brief discussions on engineering work regarding how to meet the new requirements with minimum impact on current system as well as C&M (Control and Monitoring) software.

  • Shanghai Tower is a composite structure building with a height of 632 m. In order to verify the structural properties and behaviors in construction and operation, a structural health monitoring project was conducted by Tongji University. The monitoring system includes sensor system, data acquisition system and a monitoring software system. Focusing on the health monitoring in construction, this paper introduced the monitoring parameters in construction, the data acquisition strategy and an integration structural health monitoring (SHM) software. The integration software - Structural Monitoring/ Analysis/ Evaluation System (SMAE) is designed based on integration and modular design idea, which includes on-line data acquisition, finite elements and dynamic property analysis functions. With the integration and modular design idea, this SHM system can realize the data exchange and results comparison from on-site monitoring and FEM effectively. The analysis of the monitoring data collected during the process of construction shows that the system works stably, realize data acquirement and analysis effectively, and also provides measured basis for understanding the structural state of the construction. Meanwhile, references are provided for the future automates construction monitoring and implementation of high-rise building structures.

  • Research on highly abstracted system modeling and simulation has received a great deal of attention as of the concept of platform based design is becoming ubiquitous. From a practical design point of view, such modeling and simulation must consider the following: (i) fast simulation speed and cycle accuracy, (ii) early availability for early stage software development, (iii) inter-operability with external tools for software development, and (iv) reusability of the models. Unfortunately, however, all of the previous works only partially addresses the requirements, due to the inherent conflicts among the requirements. The objective of this study is to develop a new system design methodology to effectively address the requirements mentioned above. We propose a new transaction-level system modeling methodology, called ViP (Virtual Platform). We propose a two-step approach in the ViP method. In phase 1, we create a ViP for early stage software development (before RTL freeze). The ViP created in this step provides high speed simulation, lower cycle accuracy with only minor modeling effort.(satisfying (ii)). In phase 2, we refine the ViP to increase the cycle accuracy for system performance analysis and software optimization (satisfying (i)). We also propose a systematic ViP modeling flow and unified interface scheme based on utilities developed for maximizing reusability and productivity (satisfying (ii) and (iv)) and finally, we demonstrate VChannel, a generic scheme to provide a connection between the ViP and the host-resident application software (satisfying (iii)). ViP had been applied to several System-on-a-chip (SoC) designs including mobile applications, enabling engineers to improve performance while reducing the software development time by 30% compared to traditional methods.
