  • Radiation and radioisotopes have a high value in terms of utilization that can be used in convergence with various fields. However, due to the specificity of radiation, the use of radiation and radioisotopes is more difficult than in other industrial fields and also involves complex regulations. There are no clear industrial technology standards in these fields. Therefore, the growth of the radiation industry, especially including small companies, is being delayed. Since industrial technology standards play an important role in providing an institutional basis for the continuous development and settlement of domestic technology, the development of technical standards for the radiation and radioisotope industries can lead to systematic growth of the domestic radiation industry. To this end, the technology classification of the radiation industry was promoted and classified into 7 major categories, and detailed classification was divided according to the characteristics of each technology. In addition, a demand and perception survey on the need for industrial technology standards was conducted on RI licensed institutions and companies, and as a result, 61.4% responded that it was necessary, and in particular, they recognized the need for radiation safety(63.3%). In this paper, the technical classification for the radiation field is presented as the first step in the development of industrial technical standards for the radiation industry. In addition, the plan of the current status information and preparation of standard procedures of each category will be discussed.

  • Rice paddy cultivation is one of the major sources in methane (CH4) emission of which accurate assessment would be a prerequisite for agricultural greenhouse gas management. Biomass treatment in paddy fields is an important factor that affects CH4 emissions and thus needs to be taken into account. The objectives of this study were to apply drone images to investigate organic matter practices and to incorporate into the estimation of CH4 emissions from paddy fields. Three study areas were selected by one from each of the three different regions of Yeongnam, Honam and Jungbu, which are the most active region in paddy cultivation. The eBee drone was used to take images of the study sites twice a year; Jul mid-season for identifying rice cultivation area; Jan for investigating rice straw management and winter crop cultivation. Based on biomass management practices, different emissions factors were assigned on an individual paddy field and CH4 emmisions were estimated by multiplying respective areas. The ratios of rice straw application and winter crop cultivation were 1.4% and 37.2% in Hapcheon, 1.3% and 19.8% in Gimje, and 0.0% and 0.5% in Dangjin, respectively. The CH4 emissions estimates for respective sites were 0.40 ton CH4/year/ha, 0.34 ton CH4/year/ha, and 0.29 ton CH4/year/ha. On average, estimated CH4 emissions of this study were 28.5% less than the current Tier 2 CH4 emission estimation method.

  • Under ubiquitous environment, applications can gather and utilize various sensing information. There are many issues such as energy management, protocol standardization, independency on sensor fields, and security to be resolved for the complete ubiquitous computing. Especially, the independent information access in the sensor field is one of the most important issues to maximize the usability of sensors in various sensor fields. However, existing frameworks are not suitable for the ubiquitous computing environment because of data heterogeneity between data elements in sensor fields. Existing applications are dependent to sensor fields and sensors in the existing ubiquitous computing on environment is dependent to the application in the sensor field. In other word, an application can utilize just information from a specific sensor field. To overcome this restriction, many issues from a hardware or software view must be resolved. In this paper, we provide the design and implementation of the Metadata Registry-based framework (UbiMDR) of the Ubiquitous environment. This framework can provides the semantic interoperability among ubiquitous applications or various sensor fields. In addition, we describe comparison evaluation between conventional Ubiquitous computing framework and UbiMDR framework with data accuracy of interoperability.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the perceptions of the organizations in the fields of academics, arts, humanities, and music in Korea on the International Standard Name Identifier (ISNI) which is developed by International Standard Organization (ISO) for assuring the public identities of creators, contributors, and producers to contents in the fields. National Library of Korea (NLK), one of the official registration agencies of ISNI in Korea, launched a consortium, ISNI-Korea, with various organizations in the fields to promote the ISNI registration and application. In this study, focused group interviews were carried out with participants from a total of 13 organizations; these organizations were divided into three groups by the progress on collaboration with NLK at the ISNI-Korea consortium. The current status of the personnel or membership information management by organizations, their expectations and barriers for using ISNI, and the ISNI application to the fields have been discussed intensively during the interviews. Findings from this study could benefit NLK to develop the strategies to promote ISNI in the fields. This study also proposed follow-up studies to enhance the use of ISNI in Korea.

  • A portable GPS receiver and a navigation software were used to investigate land application practices of manure composts. The field investigation indicated that most of the land application of manure composts were observed before April. Plowing for incorporation of manure with soil were continued from the middle of April. The results also revealed that over 60% of the farms were within 1 km from livestock farms from which manure composts were transported. Most of the farms having land application were dry field rather than paddies, Some of fields located near livestock farms frequently experience over-application of manure composts. It seems to have been difficult to complete the investigation in this study without the Gps/navigation system. The GPS/navigation system will become an essential tool in field investigations such as ecological/environmental monitoring works that require repeated observation at a number of sites.

  • Application of magnetic fields is important to characterize the carrier dynamics in semiconductor quantum structures. We performed photoluminescence (PL) measurements from an InGaP-AlInGaP single quantum well under pulsed magnetic fields to 50 T. The zero field interband PL transition energy matches well with the self-consistent Poisson-$Schr{\ddot{o}}dinger$ equation. We attempted to analyze the dimensionality of the quantum well by using the diamagnetic shift of the magnetoexciton. The real quantum well has finite thickness that causes the quasi-two-dimensional behavior of the exciton diamagnetic shift. The PL intensity diminishes with increasing magnetic field because of the exciton motion in the presence of magnetic field.

  • Radiative transfer models were developed to understand the optical polarizations in edge-on galaxies, which are observed to occur even outside the geometrically thin dust disk, with a scale height of ~0.2 kpc. In order to reproduce the vertically extended polarization structure, we find it is essential to include a geometrically thick dust layer in the radiative transfer model, in addition to the commonly-known thin dust layer. The models include polarizations due to both dust scattering and dichroic extinction which is responsible for the observed interstellar polarization in the Milky Way. It is found that the magnetic fields in edge-on galaxies are in general vertical (or poloidal) except the central part, where the magnetic fields are mainly toroidal. We also find that the polarization level is enhanced if the clumpiness of the interstellar medium, and the dichroic extinction by vertical magnetic fields in the outer regions of the dust lane are included in the radiative transfer model. The predicted degree of polarization outside the dust lane was found to be consistent with that (ranging from 1% to 4%) observed in NGC 891.

  • A large-area (830mm ${\times}$ 1,020mm) inductively coupled plasma source with a six internal straight antennas was developed for large area FPD etch process applications and the effects of magnetic fields employing permanent magnets on the plasma characteristics were investigated. By employing the magnetic fields perpendicular to the six straight antenna currents using permanent magnets, improved plasma characteristics such as increase of the ion density and decrease of both electron temperature and plasma potential could be achieved in addition to the stability of the plasma possibly due to the reduction of the electron loss. However, the application of the magnetic field decreased the plasma uniformity slightly even though the uniformity within 10% could be maintained in the 800mm processing area.

  • In the Lagrangian vortex particle method based on the vorticity-velocity formulation for solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, a numerical scheme for calculating pressure fields is presented. Implementation of the numerical method is directly connected with the well-established surface panel methods, just by dealing with the dynamic coupling among vorticity field. Assuming the vorticity and the velocity fields are to be calculated in time domain analysis, the pressure calculation for a complete set of solution at present time step is performed in a similar way to the one used in the Eulerian description. For a validation of the present method, we illustrate the early development of the viscous flow about an impulsive started circular cylinder for Reynolds number 550. The comparative study with the Eulerian finite Volume method provides an extensive understanding and application of the mesh-free Lagrangian vortex methods for numerical simulation of viscous flows around arbitrary bodies of general shape.
