This paper describes dynamic analysis and attitude control of a large spacecraft with flexible appendages in gravitational field. The effect of attitude control and vibration control of flexible appendages in gravitational field has been clarified. We demonstrate some simulations in gravitational field for some cases, and suggest the effects of gravitational torque, parameters of flexible appendages, attitude control and vibration control of flexible appendages.

A variety of appendages are attached to coastal and offshore fishing boats to improve stability during navigation or fishing operations (stability performance and roll reduction). These appendages are generally classified into three types, which are shown in Fig. 1. The numerical calculations were conducted for the following eight cases: one case of a bare hull, three cases where a single appendage attached, three cases of a pair of appendages attached, and one case where all three appendages were attached. Table 1 presents the main dimensions of the bare hull and Table 2 describes the main dimensions of the three appendages. The fluid dynamic performance with regard to the three hull appendages was evaluated via CFD for the following cases: each of the appendages attached independently, a pair of appendages attached, and all three appendages attached simultaneously. The No. 1 appendage showed that pressure resistance was proportionally greater than friction resistances. Both Nos. 2 and 3 appendages showed comparable levels of pressure and friction resistances. The correlation between appendages was minimal in the case of pairs and Comparing the cases of the No. 2 appendage attached and all appendages attached, at 11 kn, the EHP showed an difference of 9 %.

Naval ships have hull appendages which are more exposed to the outside because of its small block coefficient compared with commercial ships. These exposed hull appendages like skeg, strut and shaft line affect the maneuverability of a ship. The effect of hull appendages has considered at initial design stage to estimate more accurate maneuverability. In this paper, sensitivity analysis is used to analyze the effect on maneuverability by hull appendages. 3 DOF maneuvering equations based on Mathematical Modelling Group (MMG) model are used and propeller & rudder model are modified to reflect the characteristics of twin propeller & twin rudder. Numerical maneuvering simulations (Turning test, Zig-zag test) for benchmark naval vessel, David Taylor Model Basin (DTMB) 5415 are performed. In every simulation, it is calculated that stability indices and maneuverability characteristics (Tactical Dia., Advance, 1st Overshoot, Time of complete cycle) with respect to the parameters (area times lift coefficient slope, attachment location) of hull appendages. As a result, two regression formulas are established. One is the relation of maneuverability characteristics and stability indices and the other is the relation of stability indices and hull appendages.

The hydrodynamic effect of appendages for high-speed passenger vessels, such as Ro-Pax, Ro-Ro and cruiser vessels, is very severe and, therefore, it is essential to carry out the design of appendages for high-speed passenger vessels from the preliminary design stage to the final detail design stage through a full survey of the reference vessels together with sufficient technical investigation. Otherwise, many problems would be caused by mismatches between the appendages and the hull form. This paper investigates the design characteristics of some appendages, such as the side thruster, the shaft-strut, and the stern wedge, based on the design experience accumulated at Samsung, on CFD, and on model test results for high-speed passenger vessels. Further to this investigation, some practical and valuable design guidelines for such appendages are suggested.

In the present paper, viscous flow fields around a wigley hull with appendages are analysed to study interactions between the hull and appendages. Navier-Stokes and continuity equations are solved by a finite volume method in a body-fitted coordinate system which conforms three dimensional ship geometries with appendages. A Sub-Grid Scale(SGS) turbulent model is used for a calculation of high Reynolds number flow. Numerical computations has been done for a Wigley hull form at $Rn=1.0{\times}10^6$. The results show that the present approach can predict, at least in qualitative sense, the influence of the appendages upon the flow field around a ship.

The resistance of a high speed monohull can be dramatically increased at the high speed range due to the severe stern trim, spray formation and hull bottom pressure irregularity etc. In order to avoid these demerits associated with this resistance increase, various appendages such as the stern wedge, vertical wedge, stern flap, spray strip etc. have been studied. Each of appendage can control the trim angle and/or improve the resistance performance. If these appendages are combined for finding the maximal resistance reduction, there are enormous combination selections. This paper presents the DOE(Design of experiment) using an orthogonal array in order to decrease the model tests finding the optimum appendage combination. And we evaluate that the method introduced in this paper makes the optimal combination of appendages efficient and time-saving by applying to high speed semi-planing monohull. Here, the maximum speed and the least fuel expense are adopted as the decision criteria.
The influence of torsional rigidity of hinged flexible appendage on the linear dynamics of flexible spacecrafts with liquid on board was analyzed by considering the spacecraft's main body as a rigid tank, its flexible appendages as two elastically supported elastic beams, and the onboard liquid as an ideal liquid. The meniscus of the liquid free surface due to surface tension was considered. Using the Lagrangian of the spacecraft's main body (rigid tank), onboard liquid, and two beams (flexible appendages) in addition to assuming the system moved symmetrically, the coupled system frequency equations were obtained by applying the Rayleigh-Ritz method. The influence of the torsional rigidity of the flexible appendages on the spacecraft's coupled vibration characteristics was primary focus of investigation. It was found that coupled vibration modes especially that of appendage considerably changed with torsion spring parameter ${\kappa}_t$ of the flexible appendage. In addition, variation of the main body displacement with system parameters was investigated.

In this research, we have calculated characteristics of wave-piercing high-speed planing hull, by using a RANS solver and overset grid method, for comparing with experimental measurements of that and simulating with several appendages, since the computed results of commercial CFD code look reasonable for the prediction of the performances of planing hulls on calm water in planing conditions. As a result, it is confirmed that the dynamic instability phenomena in pitch and heave motions (porpoising) occurred after a certain $Fn_V$, and effectively suppressed using some of appendages, especially the 0.5L spray rail is suppressed to 24-55 % in the pitch motion and 33-55 % in the heave motion. In spray phenomenon, 1L hard chine suppress spray effectively and it is effective to set the angle of appendages to be less than $0^{\circ}$ in order to suppress wave.
Flow field around the KRISO 3600TEU container ship is computed using a surface generated based on interpolations of station lines, which are given in a body plan of the ship, without using any CAD program. An interpolation method is suggested based on inscribed circles to generate curves between two neighboring station lines. The interpolated surface is saved in a STL format to use the snappyHexMesh utility of the openfoam. Computed resistance of the ship is compared with experimental and other computational results and the effects of the interpolation of neighboring station lines on the computed resistance are investigated. The suggested method is applied to calculate the flow field around a submarine with appendages. The surface triangulations for the hull and the appendages are generated without consideration of each other, then those surface triangulations are simply combined to provide a grid generator with the body boundary. The junctures of the hull and the appendages are identified automatically during the grid generation procedure. Tip vortex is captured, which travels downstream from the tip of the appendages.
Three species belonging to the genus Trapania Pruvot-Fol, 1931 are redescribed from Korea in this paper: Trapania euryeia Gosliner & Fahey, 2008, T. japonica (Baba, 1935), and T. toddi Rudman, 1987. Among these species, T. japonica is newly added to Korean fauna. The genus Trapania is characterized by a pair of extra-rhinophoral appendages on each side of the head, tentacular foot corners, a pair of extra-branchial appendages present around the gill, radula formula N×1.0.1. and consists of denticulated teeth, triaulic reproductive system, and minute spines on the armed penis. Herein, synonyms of the genus Trapania are summarized through a detailed literature review and the diagnostic characters of the genus Trapania are provided. Three species of the genus Trapania from Korea are distinguished from each other based on the color of extra-rhinoporal appendages and extra-branchial appendages, ground color, and distribution range of the brown markings on the dorsal surface. A taxonomic key to the genus Trapania in Korea is provided. In addition, the morphological characteristics of three trapanian nudibranchs in Korea are described and detailed photos of living animal are provided.
