  • The purpose of this study is to figure out the relationship between the mini-laboratory and the reverberation room for the domestic floor structures which are practically constructed in apartment houses. For this purpose, seven specimen which were varied in structures and thicknesses were tested in Chonnam National University reverberation room and in the artificial mini-laboratory which is the $\farc{1}{3}$ scale model of the former. From the result of this study, it was proved that there is a good correlation between the mini-laboratory and the reverberation room for the apartment floor structures as well as floorcovering PVC. The result of this study could save the labor and the time, etc.

  • In apartment buildings, floor-impact sound has bean regarded as the major source which induces complaints from residents. It is mainly due to the use of light-weight structures. The vibration produced by impact on one part of an apartment building would travel as far as the other parts of structure with a little alleviation. As a result, the impact sound from upstairs has been regarded as a main source of noise causing discontentment among occupants. This study was carried out to measure the floor-impact sound levels and evaluate the insulation performance of floor-impact sound for nine apartment buildings. The floor-impact sound levels were measured for twenty-five On-dol floor structures and various factors which influence the floor-impact sound were analyzed.

  • In apartment houses, said to be similar to a typical housing form, every household share the walls and floors. Many problems inevitably accompany such as an arrangement, as noise and vibration are shared among households. When investigating the percentage of apartment resident's dissatisfaction with housing environments, discontent due to noise ranks the highest. Among many different kinds of noises, noise such as floor crashing sounds show the highest indication rate in the residents' comparison of discontent. Therefore, it is the practice of insulating against noises such as floor crashing sounds that improves the apartment house environments. The factors influencing the floor impact sound insulation include floor finishing materials, shock absorbing floors (slabs included), and ceiling structures. The ceilings of the apartment houses, currently built in Korea, are set up with lower parts of slabs and paper finishing, or with double floors for protecting against floor impact sounds in order to improve the sound insulating performance. The most common the method of ceiling structure construction consists of 'wood boarded frames +Gypsum boards + ceiling papers', which is called the wood boarded frame method. This study aimed to measures and evaluates floor impact sound insulation by which the ceiling space are widened according to suppression system is added in apartment house ceiling structure.

  • In this study, several methods for measuring floor impact sound were introduced. Among them, the simple methods (impedance method and diffuse index method) which can be easily applied to site works were investigated. Moreover, the comparison between the calculation results using diffuse index method and the experimental results measured in real apartment structures was conducted. Consequently, the modified diffuse index method, which can be practically used for predicting the performance of to the floor impact sound of apartment structures and can meet the allowable tolerance of Grade I (${\pm}$5㏈), was proposed.

  • Recently many high-rise apartment buildings are constructed using the box system which is composed only of concrete walls and slabs. Commercial softwares such as ETABS used for the analysis of high-rise apartment buildings are employing the rigid diaphragm assumption for simplicity in the analysis procedure. In general the flexural stiffness of floor slabs are ignored in the analysis, This assumption may be reasonable for the estimation of seismic response of framed structures. But in the case of the box system used in the apartment buildings floor slabs has major effects on the lateral stiffness of the structure. So if the flexural stiffness of slabs in the box system is ignored the lateral stiffness may be significantly underestimated, For these reasons it is recommended to use plate elements to represent the floor slabs. In the study A typical frame structure and a box system structure are chosen as the example structure. When a 20 story frame structure is subjected to the static lateral loads the displacements of the roof are 15.33cm and 17.52cm for the cases with and without the flexural stiffness of the floor slabs. And in case of box system the roof displacement was reduced from 16.18cm to 8.61cm The model without the flexural stiffness of floor slabs turned out to elongate the natural periods of vibration accordingly.

  • In this study, as a complementary study of the former study on indoor thermal environment in a tower type apartment house at tropical nights, a field measurement was conducted in winter season. Mainly, characteristics of heat storage and heat emission in apartment structures, in this study, were investigated. As results, indoor air temperature was changed in the range of $22.5^{\circ}C{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$, and followed not the change of outdoor air temperature but the changed pattern of floor surface temperature. Wall surface temperature was unresponsive to the change of floor surface temperature compared with the change of indoor air temperature because wall structure was composed of concrete which has large heat capacity, and was changed in the range of $22.3^{\circ}C{\pm}0.6^{\circ}C$. Heat was stored continuously into the structures of wall and ceiling through the measurement term. and this means that a large heat capacity of the apartment structure acts as a disadvantage in winter season, too. As a total review of the study with the former study, a large heat capacity of the apartment structure acts against indoor thermal comfort in winter season as well as in summer season.

  • Generally the ceiling frame of apartment house is made of wood. But the wood frame has several problems due to the natural properties such as distortion by shrink, low fire resistance and material loss in the construction field. And it has some defections in sound insulation performance. Therefore it is necessary to develop a new method that can be used as a ceiling frame. This study aims to analyze and to compare the sound insulation characteristics against the floor impact sound between wood ceiling frame and M-bar frame which is made of steel. The results of this study are like these. M-bar frame is more effective than wood ceiling frame in sound insulation. And sound absorbing or sound insulation materials which can be Put on gypsum board are helpful to improve floor impact sound insulation performance.
