Objectives: The purpose of this research was to study the Psychological Characteristics of Korean Medicine Students, focusing on Korean version of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. Methods: We conducted survey on 101 Korean Medicine Students to investigate the Psychological Characteristics of Korean Medicine Students, focusing on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. Results: 1. 14.8% of students scored more than 52 points in the State Anxiety Inventory, and 20.8% of students scored more than 53 points in the Trait Anxiety Inventory. 2. Students with anxiety according to the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory showed higher scores in the Sc, Pd, Si, RC4 scales, as compared to students without anxiety (p<.05). 3. Students with anxiety according to the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory showed higher scores in the Pt, RCd, RC7 and NEGE scales, as compared to students without anxiety (p<.05). Conclusions: Students with anxiety seem to have difficulty in adjusting socially, as compared to students without anxiety. In addition, students with anxiety have a personality tendency to experience negative emotions, as compared to students without anxiety.
The purpose of this study is to document the stress symptoms (Anxiety and depression) among dental students and the difference of stress level between classes and by gender. All students in dental college, Seoul National University, in the 1995 academic year, were tested with the Spielberger's State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and Beck Depression Inventory just before the first semestral examination when the stress levels of students are expected to be the highest. 303 students answered the test. The obtained results were as follows : 1. State Anxiety inventory scores of the second-year and first-year students were significantly higher than those of the fourth -year and third-year(p(0.01), and all classes showed mean state anxiety scores more than mild. 2. Trait Anxiety inventory scores of the second-year and first-year students were significantly higher than those of the third-year and forth-year(p(0.01), and all classes showed mean Trait Anxiety scores more than mild. 3. Beck Depression inventory scores of the second -year students were significantly higher than those of the third-year and fourth-year(p(0.01), and twenty two students(7.3%) among the fourth classes showed depression symptoms. 4. In the comparison of the mean scores of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and Beck Depression Inventory between male and female students, State Anxiety Inventory scores of the second-year female students were significantly higher than those of the second year male students(p(0.05), and there was no significant difference elsewhere.

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to identify the relationships among stress response inventory, hospital anxiety and depression, muscle tone and stiffness, and hand strength in chronic stroke patients. METHODS: A total of 14 chronic stroke patients voluntarily agreed to this experiment and were included in this study. All measurements were performed in one day and in a room without noise. The tests conducted in this study were as follows: muscle tone and stiffness of the upper trapezius hand grip measurement. Subjects were also asked to complete surveys describing the following: stress response inventory and hospital anxiety and depression scale. RESULTS: There were significant correlations among stress response inventory and hospital anxiety and depression, stress response inventory and hand strength, and hospital anxiety and depression and hand strength (P<.05). There were high positive correlations between stress response inventory and hospital anxiety and depression (r=.979), while there were moderate negative correlations between stress response inventory and hand strength (r=-.415) and between hospital anxiety and depression and hand strength (r=-.420). CONCLUSION: The results of the present study indicate that there is a relationship among stress response inventory, hospital anxiety and depression, and hand strength in patients with chronic stroke.
Background: It is important to evaluate preoperative anxiety and prepare sedation when performing dental surgery under local anesthesia. Spielberger's State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) is useful for predicting preoperative anxiety. State anxiety is defined as a subjective feeling of nervousness. Reduction in the number of the state anxiety items (questions) will be clinically important in allowing us to predict anxiety more easily. Method: We analyzed the STAI responses from 1,252 patients who visited our institution to undergo dental surgery under local anesthesia. Multiple linear regression analysis was conducted for 9 groups comprising anxiety level determinations using the STAI; we then developed a coefficient of determination and a regression formula. We searched for a group satisfying the largest number of requirements for regression expression while setting any necessary conditions for accurately predicting anxiety before dental surgery under local anesthesia. Results: The regression expression from the group determined as normal for preoperative state anxiety was deemed the most suitable for predicting preoperative anxiety. Conclusion: It was possible to reduce the number of items in the STAI by focusing on "Preoperative anxiety before dental surgery."
This study investigates the relationships amongst couple conflict, forgiveness, depression, and anxiety according to gender. This study also examined whether forgiveness has a moderating effect on the relationship among couple conflict, depression, and anxiety according to gender. The sample consisted of 263 parents of high school students. The couples reported their level in the Couple Conflict Inventory, Enright Forgiveness Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory, and Personality Assessment Inventory. The findings are as follows: 1) Anxiety only significantly differed between husband and wife. 2) Couple conflict positively related to husband and wife depression and anxiety. Forgiveness is negatively related to couple conflict, anxiety, and depression between husband and wife. 3) The moderating effects of forgiveness within couple conflict and depression only showed with the wife. 4) The moderating effect of forgiveness between couple conflict and anxiety was only displayed by the husband. The findings of this study indicate that forgiveness could function as a protective factor for couples who perceive couple conflict, depression, and anxiety. These results suggest implications for couple conflict education and couple counseling according to gender.
Objective : The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship among daytime sleepiness, depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, and stress response of students in a university Methods : A total of 557 students were recruited in this study. The participants filled out stress response inventory, Epworth sleepiness scale, overall anxiety severity and impairment scale, and quality of life scale. Results : Excessive daytime sleepiness group showed higher scores in all factors in stress response inventory, overall anxiety severity and impairment scale, and quality of life scale. Sleepiness might be correlated with somatization and depression and anger in Stress response inventory. Conclusion : Excessive daytime sleepiness group exhibited poor quality of life scale. Screening about overall quality of sleep, such as mood and anxiety should be considered for students in a university.
Objective : Brief screening for anxiety symptoms in clinical practice can further facilitate the diagnosis and evaluation of anxiety disorders. This study examined the factorial validity of the Korean version of the State-Trait Inventory (STAI)-Form X, one of the most frequently used self-report questionnaires for anxiety. Methods : Data from the STAI and Beck Depression Inventory were obtained from a consecutive sample of 200 outpatients diagnosed with DSM-IV anxiety disorders at a psychiatric unit of a university hospital. The factor structures of the State and Trait Scales were assessed using exploratory factor analysis. Results : Three-factor components, including 'State anxiety present', 'State anxiety absent' and 'Selfconfidence', were extracted from the State Scale, explaining 59% of the total variance. A four-factor solution involving 'Trait anxiety and depression present', 'Trait anxiety and depression absent', 'Anxiety proneness' and 'Stability' (59% of total variance) was extracted from the Trait Scale. The internal consistency of the STAI and factors were satisfactory. There were significant correlations between depressive symptoms and factors of the STAI. Conclusion : The STAI-form X showed factorial validity for Korean patients with anxiety disorders. However, our finding that this anxiety scale also measures depressive symptoms should be interpreted with caution.
Background: The aim of this study was to determine the clinical effects of complex Korean medicine therapy for tinnitus associated with ear fullness, depression, and anxiety. Case Report: A 52-year-old female patient suffering from tinnitus with ear fullness, depression, and anxiety was treated with acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, and herbal medicine. We used the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and a Verbal Numerical Rating Score (VNRS) to assess the patient's symptoms. The administration of the acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, and herbal medicine improved the ear fullness, depression and anxiety symptoms. No side effects were observed during the treatment. Conclusion: The study findings suggest that complex Korean medicine therapy, such as acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, and herbal medicine, may be effective for the treatment of tinnitus associated with ear fullness, depression, and anxiety.
Objective : The aim of this study is to investigate and measure the Test-anxiety of college students in OO Oriental Medicine by using Korea's version-Test Anxiey Inventory(K-TAI-K), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI), Symptom Check List-90-Revision(SCL-90-R), etc. Methods : We studied 181 students who being at OO College of Oriental Medicine in second semester, 2007 We used some questionaries like K-TAI-K, STAI, SCL-90-R , College Life Satisfacaion, Life Event Questionnaire. Results and Conclusions : 1.141 persons(83,43%) of students feel the largest test anxiety before test. 18 persons(9.94%) of students feel the largest test anxiety after test. 2.The 1st grade students of preparatory course and 4th grade students of regular course have the lowest score in State Anxiety Inventory and obsessive-compulsive of SCL-90-R. The 2nd grade students of regular course have the lowest score in State Anxiety Inventory and obsessive-compulsive of SCL-90-R 3. Students who failed in test one time have the lowest score , and who failed in test more than two times have the highest score in K-TAl-K Students who failed one time in grade promotion more than two times showed high score in second K-TAI-K. 4. The higher grade, the lower score in College Life Satisfaction. The scores of College Life Satisfaction have negative correlations with those of K-TAI-K, STAI SCL-90-R except phobic anxiety, 5. The scores of Life Event Questionnaire have positive correlations with those of K-TAI-K, STAI and SCL-90-R except phobic anxiety. 6. The scores of K-TAl-K have positive correlations with those of STAI, SCL-90-R, College Life Satisfaction and Life Event Questionnaire. A correlation coefficient of obsessive-compulsive scale is highest, anxiety scale is second, interpersonal sensitivity scale is third, depression scale is fourth high among the scales of SCL-90-R.
