Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of Cheonmagudeung-eum (CGE) for essential hypertension by systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods: The period of literature search was until October 30, 2016, and 14 electronic databases were utilized as search engines. The evaluation for the risk of bias (RoB) was conducted by using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool. The meta-analysis was performed by synthesizing outcome data, including total effective rate (TER), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and the incidence of adverse events. Result: There were a total of 64 RCTs using CGE on adult essential hypertension. In the RoB evaluation, most of the items were unclear, and the qualities of studies were rated low. The concurrent treatment of CGE and antihypertensive drug (AHD) showed a significant hypotensive effect since the risk ratio (RR) of TER was 1.17 times (95% CI 1.14, 1.20, p<0.01) higher than that of AHD alone. In addition, the mean difference (MD) appeared low as 8.73 mm/Hg in SBP (95% CI -11.36, -6.09, p<0.01) and 5.81 mm/Hg in DBP (95% CI -7.50, -4.12, p<0.01). Conclusion: Through this study, it was identified that the combined treatment of CGE and AHD on hypertension would be more effective than that of AHD treatment alone. However, due to the low quality of the selected original articles, the significance of this conclusion is somewhat limited, and we hope that this would be complemented through more rigorous RCTs in the future.
In addition to the nutritional values, milk has a wide range of bioactive compounds which have been found to be increasingly important for physiological and biochemical functions on human metabolism and health. Bioactive components in milk comprise specific proteins, peptides, lipids and carbohydrates. Especially, milk proteins are known to exert a wide range of nutritional, functional, and biological activities. And milk proteins are considered the most important source of bioactive peptides, including antihypertensive, antithrombotic, antimicrobial, antioxidative, immunomodulatory, and opioid peptides. Many ingredients containing specific bioactive peptides derived from milk protein hydrolysates have been launched on the market and are currently under development. In future studies more emphasis should be given to the health-promoting effect in the well-defined human clinical studies for the successful development of function foods based on the milk-derived bioactive components.
This manuscript reports the synthesis of two series of Mannich Bases 3-12 and 21-40 obtained respectively by the reaction of either 2- ethoxycarbonylindoles 1-2 or 5H-pyridazino [4,5-b]indoles 17-20 as a substrate with formalin and the appropriate $2^{\circ}C$amines under the suitable Mannich conditions. fourteen of the synthesized Mannich basese were screened as antihypetensive agents in normotensive anesthetized rats. The effect of compound 4 in normotensive anesthetized dogs was also studied.
These studies were conducted to investigate the effect of 'Inchungbaek' water extract on analgesic and sedative actions, the relaxing action of isolated ileums, vasodilating action and blood pressure. The results of these studies were summarized as follows: Analgesic and sedative actions of 'Inchungbaek' were recognized in mice and rats. The relaxing action of isolated ileums were seen in mice and rabbits, antagonist action was seen acetylcholine and $BaCl_2-induced$ contraction of isolated ileums, and then recognized direct action in the ileum smooth muscle. Hypotensive and vasodilating actions due to vascular smooth muscle relaxation were noted in rabbits and cats.
Chitin, a poly $\beta$-(1longrightarrow14)-N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, is best known as a cell wall component of fungi and as a skeletal materials of invertebrates. Chitosan is derived from chitin by deacetylation in the presence of alkali. Chitosan has been developed as new physiological materials since it possesses antibacterial activity, hypocholesterolemic activity and antihypertensive action. However, the actions of chitosan in vivo still remain ambiguous as the physiological functional properties because most animal intestines, especially the human gastrointestinal tract, do not possess enzyme such as chitosanase which directly degrade the $\beta$-glucosidic linkage in chitosan, and consequently the unbroken polymers may be poorly absorbed into the human intestine. Therefore, recent studies as chitosan have attracted interest for chitosan oligosaccharides, because the oligosaccharides process not only water-soluble property but also versatile functional properties such as antitumor activity, immune-enhancing effects, enhancement of protective effects against infection with some pathogens in mice and antimicrobial activity (Kingsnorth et al., 1983, Mori et al., 1997). This study investigated the effects of Siegesbeckia glabrescens, an antihypertensive remedy, on the contraction evoked by phenylephrine and KCl in isolated rat thoracic arata, and also analyzed antioxidative status in vitro. Siegesbeckia glabrescens revealed dose-dependent relaxation on phenylephrine(PE)/KCl-induced arterial contraction and more markedly on PE-induced contraction. Siegesbeckia glabrescens reduced malondialdehyde(MDA)levels, Phosphatidyl choline-liposome(PC-OOH) contents, linoleic acid-induced lipid peroxidation and exerted 1,1-diphenyl-2- picryl-hydrazyl(DPPH) radical scavenging effect, in vitro. These results indicated that Siegesbeckia glabrescens doesn't relaxe artery through a blocking α-adrenergic receptor and calcium channel mediated by voltage-operated calcium channel, and it s antioxidative effects may be involved in endothelium-dependent relaxation of arteries via vascular protective properites.
This experiment was performed to determine the antihypertensive effect of Yangganhwadam-tang(YHT) on hypertension in spontaneously hypertensive rat. The results obtained were as follows : 1. YHT showed scavenging activity on DPPH free radical and SOD-like activity. 2. YHT significantly decreased heart weight. 3. YHT significantly decreased blood pressure and pulse. 4. YHT significantly decreased the level of plasma aldosterone. 5. YHT significantly decreased the level of norepinephrine. 6. YHT significantly decreased the levels of potassium and calcium. 7. YHT significantly decreased the level of BUN. 8. YHT decreased eosinophilic changes in the heart cells, and dilated renal arterioles stenosis. These results suggest that YHT might be effective in treatment and prevention of hypertension.
Arachidonic acid (AA, C20 : 4, $\omega$-6) and eicosapentanoic acid (EPA,C20 : 5, $\omega$-3), which are polyunsaturated fatty acids forming eicosanoids, were tested for their effects on blood pressure in Wistar rats and SHR. AA is the most important precursor for the biosynthesis of eicosanoids which include the prostaglandins, prostacyclin (PGI$_2$), thromboxane $A_2$ (TXA$_2$) and the leukotriens. TXA$_2$is a potent vasoconstrictor and a powerful inducer of platelet aggregation causing myocardial infarction and hypertention. In contrast, PGI$_2$ induces vasodilation and inhibits platelet aggregation. In this study, AA markedly increased blood pressure, but its effect was antagonized by both EPA, a structural analog of AA, and dazmegrel, a TX synthetase inhibitor. Also, AA enhanced the antihypertensive effects of hydralazine and captopril, and EPA reduced TXA$_2$ production. These results indicate that the hypotensive effects of EPA might be closely related to the decrease in TXA$_2$ biosynthesis due to competitive inhibition by structural similarity of the EPA to the AA, the precursor of TXA$_2$.
