DA-125, a new anthracycline antitumor antibiotic, was administered at dose levels of 0, 0.2, 0.6 and 1.8 mg/kg/day intravenously to pregnant New Zealand White rabbits from day 6 through 18 of gestation. The does were subjected to the caesarean section on day 28 of gestation. Effects of test agent on general toxicity of does and embryonic development of F1 fetuses were examined. At 1.8 mg/kg, the organ weight for ovary of does was significantly decreased. The decrease in the number of corpus lutea, implantations and litter size, and the increase in the rate of resorptions were also observed. In addition, various types of external, visceral and skeletal malformations occurred in fetuses at an incidence of 7.7, 7.7 and 20.6%, respectively. The results show that the no effect dose levels (NOELs) of DA-125 are 0.6 mg/kg/day for does and F1 fetuses.
The study for a effect of monitoring on bovine mastitis was conduced for a year from Dec, 1989 to Nov, 1990, Sampling the bulk milk of 350 herds in Inchon city and out of 10 herds among them were carried out herds guidance, CMT, SCC, isolation of pathogens and antibiotic sensitivity tests. The results obtained were summarized as follows 1. Annual mean SCC of 1213 herds was 558, 000 cell /ml 2. The number of SCC below 500, 000 cell /ml to quarters for herds guidance was at 1st 77. 0%, End 84.8% and 3rd 80.4%. The is shown that milk quality was steadly improved. 3. The most number of isolated pathogens of bovine mastitis was Staphylococcus SPP - 402(47.2%) Streptococcus SPP - 80(18.7% ) 4. The highest rate of antibiotic sensitivity test was Stapylococcus SPP - cephalothin(76.7%) Streptococcus SPP - ampicillin(77.5%) Gram negative bacilli - tetracyclin(76.0%) 5. The effect of monitoring on bovine mastitis was improved showing that at 1st 49.0% to 3rd 72.0%

Thirty six essential oils from herb drugs entered in Korean official formulary, which are frequently used in oriental region, were tested for antibiotic resistance inhibition. When the oils were combined with ampicillin (Am) or amoxicillin (Amx) they showed significant inhibitory effects on the growth of multi-drug resistant Staphylococcus aureus SA2 in considerably low concentration. The most effective combinations were oils from Acanthopanacis Cortex ($0.49{\mu}g/mL$) with Am and Cnidii Rhizoma and Lonicerae Flos (2.77 and $2.79{\mu}g/mL$, respectively) with Amx as shown in minimum resistance inhibitory concentrations.
To estimate the effect of some injectable antibiotics (ampicillin sodium, cefazolin sodium, cephaloridine, cefuroxime sodium and chloramphenicol sodium succinate) on pyrogen tests, the Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) test and an ultrafiltration technique were used. The rabbit pyrogen test was also used in the case of cafazolin sodium. At high antibiotic concentrations, these samples which were artificially contaminated with endotoxin inhibited the gelation reaction of LAL. But the gelation reaction occurred when most of the antibiotic was removed by ultrafiltration. Likewise, cefazolin sodium interfered not only with the LAL test but also with the rabbit pyrogen test. From these results it can be said that special modification to eliminate interference should be taken into consideration for valid method of pyrogen tests in the parenteral products containing these antibiotics.
To obtain soil microorganisms producing antimigratory activity which is important in controlling the metastasis of cancer cells, more than three hundreds of soil microbes were isolated from sixteen soil sources including Namsan mountain and designated as DGU1001-10338. At first, their antibiotic activities were examined by paper-disc method. More than 40 soil microbes produced compounds with antibiotic activity. Then, antimigratory activities of selected soil microorganisms were examined in a sphingosylphosphorylcholine-induced migration assay in PANC-1 cells. Six of 42 soil microorganisms having antibacterial activity also had more than 45% inhibitory activity on migration of PANC-1 cells. These results suggested that selected soil microorganisms were a useful starting point to find compounds for controlling metastasis of cancer cells.
An oxytetracycline as being a tetracycline-antibiotic substance displayed a general synergism in the antimicrobial activity by the interaction of ginseng saponin and antibiotics, but did not to Sarcina maginata. Penicillin G.Na as being a $\beta$-lactam-antibiotic substance displayed a synergism in the antimicrobial activities by the addition of ginseng saponin to microorganisms used, but changed the effects in the antimicrobial activity of penicillin G.Na against the genus Serratia. An antimicrobial activity by the addition of ginseng saponin to antibiotics showed a non-specificity, and it varied synergism or antagonism to Gram-positive or Gram-negative bacterium. It was assumed that a drug-resistance could be eliminated by the dual administration of ginseng saponin and antibiotics.

Evidence shows that probiotic bacteria can undergo substantial structural and morphological changes in response to environmental stresses, including antibiotics. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of penicillin G (0.015, 0.03, and 0.06 mg/l) on the morphology and adhesion of Lactobacillus acidophilus ATCC 4356, including the colony morphotype, biofilm production, hydrophobicity, $H_2_O2$ formation, S-layer structure, and slpA gene expression. Whereas only smooth colonies grew in the presence of penicillin, rough and smooth colony types were observed in the control group. L. acidophilus ATCC 4356 was found to be hydrophobic under normal conditions, yet its hydrophobicity decreased in the presence of the antibiotic. No biofilm was produced by the bacterium, despite testing a variety of different culture conditions; however, treatment with penicillin G (0.015-0.06 mg/l) significantly decreased its production of $H_2_O_2$ formation and altered the S-layer protein structure and slpA gene expression. The S-protein expression decreased with 0.015 mg/l penicillin G, yet increased with 0.03 and 0.06 mg/l penicillin G. In addition, the slpA gene expression decreased in the presence of 0.015 mg/l of the antibiotic. In conclusion, penicillin G was able to alter the S-layer protein production, slpA gene expression, and certain physicochemical properties of Lactobacillus acidophilus ATCC 4356.
Effects of temperature on sisomicin fermentation were investigated. From the specific growth rates for logarithmic phase estimated at various temperatures, 8.2 kcal/g-mol was obtained as an activation energy for cell growth. It suggests that cell growth rate was limited by the internal diffusion layers for nutrients or oxygen caused by aggregated cells. Final antibiotic titer was decreased with in-creasing temperature, and it depended highly on the temperature to which cells were exposed during the logarithmic phase of growth. Temperature shifts during fermentation brought about an increase in antibiotic productivity.

Lung abscess is often ocuured by aspiration of infectious secretion in stroke patients that has symptom of dysphagia. So we studied the effects of combined eastern and western treatment in lung abscess patient combined with stroke. We performed both antibiotic therapy and herbal medication in a lung abscess patient. We compared a chest x-ray film of early stage of disease with a film of after stage of disease, also compared change of symptom-cough, sputum, flank pain, blood phlem. After dispending antibiotic therapy and herbal medication, a lung abscess patient improved symptoms and in result of chest x-ray. The above results suggest that combined eastern and western trearment can have good effects on improving symptoms of a lung abscess patient.
General pharmacological studies of LB20304a (a mesylate salt form of a new quinolone antibiotic LB20304 following oral administration of 300 mg/kg and 1000 mg/kg, almost maximum tolerance dose in mice and rat, respectively, were performed in terms of effects on general behaviour, central nervous system, gastrointestinal system, and blood coagulation system in mice and rats. With regards to general behaviour of mice, at oral dose of 300 mg/kg, LB20304a reduced muscle tone and locomotor activity. In terms of CNS, at oral treatment of 300 mg/kg, LB20304a showed some analgesic effects in mice, and oral dose of 1000 mg/kg caused drop in normal body temperature of rat, while it enhanced the pentylenetetrazole-induced clonic convulsion to tonic convulsion and/or death in mice at the doses of unto 300 mg/kg. In addition, LB20304a increased hexobarbital-induced sleeping time two and three times in mice at oral doses of 20 mg/kg and 300 mg/kg, respectively. Rota-rod and traction test in mice were not influenced by the dose of 300 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg, respectively. LB20304a reduced gastric secretion of rat at dose of 1000 mg/kg, and increased intestinal motility of mice at dose of 300 mg/kg. In rats, blood coagulation index, such as PT (prothrombin time) and aPTT (activated partial thromboplastin time) were not affected by the treatment of upto 1000 mg/kg of LB 20304a.
