  • Seasonal occurrence and tne effects of two organic farming materials on mulberry sucker, Anomoneura mori were investigated on mulberry grown for fruit production in Buan, Jeonbuk, South Korea.. Overwintered adults of A. mori occurred from late March to mid-May with a peak in mid-April. Overwintered females began to lay eggs on winter buds from mid-April. Emerged nymphs appeared from early May and peaked in mid-May. Newly eclosed adults, appearing from early June, soon scattered and were not found in the mulberry field after mid-June. Therefore, the optimal control period for A. mori was mid-April for adults and early May for nymphs. Sophora extract and derris extract were effective organic farming materials for controllingl the nymphs of A. mori. It was found that derris extract sprayed 2-3 times at 5-days intervals in early May effected good control against A. mori nymphs.

  • Thirty-three species of insect pests including of two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch, and air-breathing land snail, Acusta despecta Sowerby, were observed on mulberry for producing mulberry fruits in Jeonbuk province from 2015 to 2016. Of these, 8 species of insect pests, including of mulberry thrips, Pseudodendrothrips mori Niwa, are regarded as major insect pests. Of the 25 species observed before harvesting, 6 species-P. mori, Anomoneura mori, Pseudaulacaspis pentagona, Baris deplanata, Menophra atrilineata and T. urticae-are regarded as major insect pests. In contrast, of the 20 species observed after harvesting, 5 species-P. mori, P. pentagona, Glyphodes pyloalis Walker, Hyphantria cunea Drury and T. urticae-are regarded as major insect pests. Eight of the major insect pest species and nine other insect pest species-including Hexcacentrus unicolor Serville, Malcus japonicus Ishihara et Hasegawa, Halyomorpha halys stal, Xylosandrus germanus Blandford, four species of Repidoptera (Bombyx mandarina Moore, Euproctis subflava Bremer, Acronicta major Bremer, Agrotis trifurca Butler), and Acusta despecta Sowerby-were observed at all sites studied, although occurrence of the insect pests observed on mulberry varied from site to site.

  • 1. In the mulberry groves for both rearing of spring and fall, the rate of germination was 74.3 percent and the rate of the unfinished bud was 25.7 percent. 2. When the summer pruning after spring rearing was not worked, new sprouted leaves from the axillary buds of an age old branches was 74.88 percent of germination and the rest from unfinished bud during the spring showed 28.12 percent. 3. In the furrows running from north to south, new buds facing the due north were the worst but towards south-east and north-east were the best in their sprouts. 4. One year-old branches which had been raised without the summer pruning in the bush types of Morus Lhou (ser) Koidz offered a habitat where Apriona Rugico1lis Cherr could live. 5. On the grove of Morus Lhou Koidz cultivated at lower zone under a higher humidity and the shortage of sun light the appearance of Anomoneura Mori Schw was likely to happen very much. 6. One year old branches without the summer pruning produced more leaves owing to a long period of growth than branches with the summer pruning in the fall crops. 7. It is necessary to reconsider a certain distance of planting because of causing, when the summer pruning was not made in the bush plantation, a obstacle of fertilizer operation or the forth coming year's management. 8. It can not be thought the ideal method for us to raise mulberry tree such as Morus Lhou Koidz under natural form and at a short distance of planting (one another). 9. Among the species, Morus alba L. had a great deal of leaves and of the rate of germination per unit length of branch.
