Recently, it has been sharply increased the interests to detect the network traffic anomalies to help protect the computer network from unknown attacks. In this paper, we propose a new anomaly detection scheme using the simple linear regression analysis for the exported LetFlow data, such as bits per second and flows per second, from a border router at a campus network. In order to verify the proposed scheme, we apply it to a real campus network and compare the results with the Holt-Winters seasonal algorithm. In particular, we integrate it into the RRDtooi for detecting the anomalies in real time.

In enterprise software projects, performance issues have become more critical during recent decades. While developing software products, many performance tests are executed in the earlier development phase against the newly added code pieces to detect possible performance regressions. In our previous research, we introduced the framework to enable automated performance anomaly detection and reduce the analysis overhead for identifying the root causes, and showed Statistical Process Control (SPC) can be successfully applied to anomaly detection. In this paper, we explain the special performance trend in which the existing anomaly detection system can hardly detect the noticeable performance change especially when a performance regression is introduced and recovered again a while later. Within the fixed number of sampling period, the fluctuation gets aggravated and the lower and upper control limit get relaxed so that sometimes the existing system hardly detect the noticeable performance change. To resolve the issue, we apply dynamically tuned sampling window size based on the performance trend, and Fuzzy theory to find an appropriate size of the moving window.

Lately there exist increasing demands for online abnormality monitoring over trajectory stream, which are obtained from moving object tracking devices. This problem is challenging due to the requirement of high speed data processing within limited space cost. In this paper, we present a FADA (Fuzzy Anomaly Detection Algorithm) which constructs normal profile by computing mobility feature information from the GPS (Global Positioning System) logs of mobile devices in MANETs (Mobile Ad-hoc Networks), computes a fuzzy dissimilarity between the current mobility feature information of the mobile device and the mobility feature information in the normal profile, and detects effectively the anomaly behaviors of mobile devices on the basis of the computed fuzzy dissimilarity. The performance of proposed FADA is evaluated through simulation.

To improve the anomaly IDS using system calls, this study focuses on Neural Networks Learning using the Soundex algorithm which is designed to change feature selection and variable length data into a fixed length learning pattern. That is, by changing variable length sequential system call data into a fixed length behavior pattern using the Soundex algorithm, this study conducted neural networks learning by using a backpropagation algorithm with fuzzy membership function. The back-propagation neural networks and Neuro-Fuzzy technique are applied for anomaly intrusion detection of system calls using Sendmail Data of UNM to demonstrate its aspect of he complexity of time, space and MDL performance.

For long-span bridges with a structural health monitoring (SHM) system, environmental temperature-driven responses are proved to be a main component in measurements. However, anomalous structural behavior may be hidden incomplicated recorded data. In order to receive reliable assessment of structural performance, it is important to study therelationship between temperature and monitoring data. This paper presents an application of the cointegration based methodology to detect anomalies that may be masked by temperature effects and then forecast the temperature-induced deflection (TID) of long-span suspension bridges. Firstly, temperature effects on girder deflection are analyzed with fieldmeasured data of a suspension bridge. Subsequently, the cointegration testing procedure is conducted. A threshold-based anomaly detection framework that eliminates the influence of environmental temperature is also proposed. The cointegrated residual series is extracted as the index to monitor anomaly events in bridges. Then, wavelet separation method is used to obtain TIDs from recorded data. Combining cointegration theory with autoregressive moving average (ARMA) model, TIDs for longspan bridges are modeled and forecasted. Finally, in-situ measurements of Xihoumen Bridge are adopted as an example to demonstrate the effectiveness of the cointegration based approach. In conclusion, the proposed method is practical for actual structures which ensures the efficient management and maintenance based on monitoring data.

Emerging attacks aim to access proprietary assets and steal data for business or political motives, such as Operation Aurora and Operation Shady RAT. Skilled Intruders would likely remove their traces on targeted hosts, but their network movements, which are continuously recorded by network devices, cannot be easily eliminated by themselves. However, without complete knowledge about both inbound/outbound and internal traffic, it is difficult for security team to unveil hidden traces of intruders. In this paper, we propose an autonomous anomaly detection system based on behavior profiling and relation mining. The single-hop access profiling model employ a novel linear grouping algorithm PSOLGA to create behavior profiles for each individual server application discovered automatically in historical flow analysis. Besides that, the double-hop access relation model utilizes in-memory graph to mine time-sequenced access relations between different server applications. Using the behavior profiles and relation rules, this approach is able to detect possible anomalies and violations in real-time detection. Finally, the experimental results demonstrate that the designed models are promising in terms of accuracy and computational efficiency.

In this paper we propose an anomaly detection scheme to detect new attack paths or new attack methods without false positives by monitoring HTTP Outbound Traffic after efficient training. Our proposed scheme detects web-based attacks by comparing tags or javascripts of HTTP Outbound Traffic with normal behavioral models which apply HMM(Hidden Markov Model). Through the verification analysis under the real-attacked environment, we show that our scheme has superior detection capability of 0.0001% false positive and 96% detection rate.

Internet as being generalized, intrusion detection system is needed to protect computer system from intrusions synthetically. We propose an intrusion detection method to identify and control the contradiction on self-explanation that happen at profiling process of anomaly detection methodology. Because many patterns can be created on profiling process with association method, we present effective application plan through clustering for rules. Finally, we propose similarity function to decide whether anomaly action or not for user pattern using clustered pattern database.

To make semiconductor chips, a number of complex semiconductor manufacturing processes are required. Semiconductor chips that have undergone complex processes are subjected to EDS(Electrical Die Sorting) tests to check product quality, and a wafer bin map reflecting the information about the normal and defective chips is created. Defective chips found in the wafer bin map form various patterns, which are called defective patterns, and the defective patterns are a very important clue in determining the cause of defects in the process and design of semiconductors. Therefore, it is desired to automatically and quickly detect defective patterns in the field, and various methods have been proposed to detect defective patterns. Existing methods have considered simple, complex, and new defect patterns, but they had the disadvantage of being unable to provide field engineers the evidence of classification results through deep learning. It is necessary to supplement this and provide detailed information on the size, location, and patterns of the defects. In this paper, we propose an anomaly detection framework that can be explained through FCDD(Fully Convolutional Data Description) trained only with normal data to provide field engineers with details such as detection results of abnormal defect patterns, defect size, and location of defect patterns on wafer bin map. The results are analyzed using open dataset, providing prominent results of the proposed anomaly detection framework.
Intrusion detection technology is highlighted in order to establish a safe information-oriented environment. Intrusion detection system can be categorized into anomaly detection and misuse detection according to intrusion detection pattern. In this paper, we propose an architecture to make up for the defect of conventional anomaly intrusion detection. This architecture reduces additional resource consumption and cost by placing the agent in the strategic location in Internet.
