  • The chalcogenide glasses of thin films have superior property of the photoinduced anisotrophy(PA). In this study, we observed the phenomenon of Ag polarized photodoping using the irradiation with polarized He-Ne laser light, in the thin film of chalcogenide As/sub 40//Ge/sub 10//Se/sub 15//S/sub 35/ and the double-layer of Ag doped As/sub 40//Ge/sub 10//Se/sub 15//S/sub 35/. The Ag polarized photodoping result in reducing time of saturation anisotrophy and increasing sensitivity of linearly anisotrophy intensity, up to maximum 220%. In the thin films of chalcogenide, the Ag polarized photodoping will be show a capability of new method that suggested more improvement of photoinduced anisotrophy property

  • The chalcogenide glasses of thin films have the superior property of photoinduced anisotrophy(PA). In this study, we observed the linear dichroism(D) using the irradiation with polarized He-Ne laser light, in the $Ag/As_{10}Ge_{10}Se_{15}S_{35}$ multi-layer. Mutilayer structures formed by alternating metal(Ag) and chalcogenide($As_{10}Ge_{10}Se_{15}S_{35}$). • In order to investigate a strength anisotrophy of basalt in Cheju Island, rock samples of Pyosenri basalt, trachy-basalt and scoria were taken from Seoguipo-Si Seongsan-Eup area, and a series of uniaxial compressive strength test and Brazilian test were carried out. The strengths were decreased with increasing the moisture contents in rock sample by pore water. As the result of test considering the anisotropy of rock strength, the compressive strength in condition of failure occurred parallel to stratified layer is decreased about 12-26% more than that in condition of failure occurred inclined to stratified layer.

  • When subjected to severe shear deformation by ECAP, microstructure of Al2024 becomes nanocrystalline grained texture material. To measure the strength of that, small punch (SP) testing method was adopted as a substitute for the conventional uniaxial tensile testing because the size of material processed by ECAP were limited to $\varphi12mm$ in transverse direction. SP tests were performed with specimens in longitudinal and transverse directions of Al 2024 ECAP metal. For comparing the strength values with those assessed by SP tests, uniaxial tensile tests were also conducted with specimens in longitudinal direction. Failure surfaces of the tested SP specimens showed that failure mode was shear deformation and Al 2024 ECAP metal has an anisotropy in strength. Thus, conventional equations proposed for assessing the strength characteristics were improper to assess those of Al2024 ECAP metal. In this paper a way of assessing the strength of Al 2024 ECAP metal was proposed and was proven to be effective.

  • A study of anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) have been carried out to understand the tectonic stress field of late Cretaceous-Tertiary strata in Yangsan area. A total of 119 independently oriented core samples were collected from 9 sites throughout the area. The study results show that 5 sites are characterized by load foliation, and 4 sites by tectonic foliation. Load foliations caused by the weight of the overlying strata occur in the central part of the study area. Tectonic foliations created by compressional tectonic force show a regional variation in direction: Direction of compression axes derived from tectonic foliation in the southern part of the study area is approximately WNW-ESE, while it changes into NE-SW northern part of the study area. Such compressional directions are compatible with the lineament directions in each area.

  • PbTi $O_3$ family ceramics can be used for the piezoelectric transformer using thickness extensional vibration mode because it is a material with the large anisotropy between electromechanical coupling factors $k_{t}$ and $k_{p}$. However, PbTi $O_3$ family ceramics have a difficult poling condition on account of its large anisotrophy. In this study, the structural and piezoelectric properties of (P $b_{0.76}$ $Ca_{0.24}$)[ $Ti_{0.96}$(M $n_{1}$3/S $b_{2/3}$)$_{0.04}$] $O_3$ system ceramics were investigated as a function of poling voltage in order to find the best poling condition.ion.n.n.ion.n.

  • Multiple studies have established that mild encephalitis/encephalopathy with a reversible splenial lesion (MERS) exhibits reversible diffusion restriction in the white matter, including the splenium. There have been a few previous reports of the change in fractional anisotropy (FA) of MERS cases. Herein, we report the longitudinal changes in axial and radial diffusivity (AD and RD), and FA in a 15-year-old boy patient with MERS. Our case demonstrated that a MERS lesion had a significant drop of AD in the early period and gradual recovery. On the contrary, RD did not show any significant change.

  • Papyriflavonol A (PapA), a prenylated flavonoid [5,7,3',4'-tetrahydroxy-6,5'-di-(${\gamma},{\gamma}$-dimethylallyl)-flavonol], was isolated from the root barks of Broussonetia papyrifera. Our previous study showed that PapA has a broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against pathogenic bacteria and fungi. In this study, the mode of action of PapA against Candida albicans was investigated to evaluate PapA as an antifungal agent. The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values were 10~25 ${\mu}g/ml$ for C. albicans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium), and Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus aureus). The kinetics of cell growth inhibition, scanning electron microscopy, and measurement of plasma membrane florescence anisotrophy revealed that the antifungal activity of PapA against C. albicans and S. cerevisiae is mediated by its ability to disrupt the cell membrane integrity. Compared with amphotericin B, a cell-membrane-disrupting polyene antibiotic, the hemolytic toxicity of PapA was negligible. At 10~25 ${\mu}g/ml$ of MIC levels for the tested strains, the hemolysis ratio of human erythrocytes was less than 5%. Our results suggest that PapA could be a therapeutic fungicidal agent having potential as a broad spectrum antimicrobial agent.
