  • We have prepared siloxane polymers grafted with trifluoromethane-sulfonylamide and oligoether side chains for solid polymer electrolytes with enhanced ionic conductivity. The grafted trifluoromethane sulfonylamide groups seem to be effective as an anion recepting site to enhance the ionic conductivity of the solid polymer electrolyte. The anion receptor grafted siloxane polymers showed one order of magnitude higher ionic conductivity than the siloxane polymers without anion receptor grafts. The fitting parameter A of the VTF plot which was related to the carrier density of the electrolyte increased with increasing the number of grafted anion receptor. The results of experiment indicate that the anion-complexing site of the anion receptor grafted polymer host effectively traps the anions. The anion receptor grafted polymer was found to be a promising material for lithium polymer batteries.

  • A new anion receptor utilizing carbamate functionality as hydrogen bonding site has been designed and synthesized. This new receptor 2 has two amide hydrogens and two carbamate hydrogens anchored at 1,8-position of anthracene. These four hydrogens form a concave structure for the anions and the receptor 2 was found to be a selective receptor for acetate among the anions investigated.

  • A new colorimetric anion sensor 1 has been synthesized based on both Fat brown RR dye and a nitrophenyl group. This new receptor 1 could recognize the presence of fluoride ion effectively and selectively by the change of color of solution. In addition, receptor 1 shows higher affinity for acetate, dihydrogenphosphate, and hydrogensulfate than the other anions such as chloride, bromide, iodide, perchlorate, and nitrate in acetonitrile.

  • Synthesis of cholic acid-based tripodal receptor (1) and its high chloride ion affinity in comparison with that of chenodeoxycholic acid (2) and lithocholic acid-based receptor (3) was achieved. Anion binding affinities of the receptors were evaluated $by\;^1H$ NMR and ITC titrations. Tripodal receptor 1 showed a selective affinity for $CI ^-$ over $Br ^-$, $I^-$, $H_2 PO _4\;^-$, and $CH _3 CO_2\;^-$. The selectivity of 1 for $CI ^-$ is about 3 times that of $Br ^-$, and 17 times that for $H_2 PO_4\;^-$.

  • Anion receptor 1 based on acylhydrazone has been designed and synthesized. UV-vis and $^1H$ NMR titration showed that receptor 1 is selective receptor for dihydrogen phosphate ($H_2PO_4{^-}$). Dihydrogen phosphate was complexed by the receptor 1 via at least 4 hydrogen bonding interactions, contributing from two amide N-Hs and two imine C-Hs. In addition, nitrogen in the aromatic ring could make 2 additional hydrogen bondings with OH groups in the dihydrogen phosphate. However, the receptor 1 could make only 4 hydrogen bonds with halides. Therefore, receptor 1 could bind anions through hydrogen bonds with a selectivity in the order of $H_2PO_4{^-}$ > $Br^-$ > $Cl^-$ in highly polar solvent such as DMSO.

  • A calix[4]pyrrole (1) bearing a quaternary ammonium pendant via its meso phenoxy linker has been synthesized as the bromide salt form. It was revealed by 1H NMR spectroscopic analyses performed in DMSO-d6 that receptor 1 binds F- with high affinity and selectivity over other halide anions. The binding of receptor 1•Br- with F- and Cltakes place by anion metathesis with the anions including F- and Cl-.

  • Anion receptor based on 2-imidazolidone molecular scaffold has been synthesized. Anion binding studies carried out using 1H NMR and UV?vis spectroscopy revealed that this receptor 6 displays selectivity for the for the oxyanions such as acetate and dihydrogenphosphate ions and the affinity for the anions simply reflects the basicity of anions.

  • A simple chromogenic system based on 1-fluoride was developed to determine water content in organic solvent. This system utilized deprotonation and protonation of the anion receptor 1. The water content evaluated from this system gave close value to the real water content in the range of 0 to 0.35% in acetonitrile and 0.2 to 0.5% in DMSO. Therefore, protonation and deprotonation phenomenon from the anion receptor by basic anion could be promising method for water sensing system.
