  • Authoring tools for sketching the motion of characters to be animated have been studied. However the natural interface for sound editing has not been sufficiently studied. In this paper, I present a novel method that sound sample is selected by speaking sound-imitation words(onomatopoeia). Experiment with the method based on statistical models, which is generally used for pattern recognition, showed up to 97% in the accuracy of recognition. In addition, to address the difficulty of data collection for newly enrolled sound samples, the GLR Test based on only one sample of each sound-imitation word showed almost the same accuracy as the previous method.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a manipulation system for nutrition counseling based on internet. This system offers convenient user interface and the synthetic counseling results with various utilities. This system consists of the general information of clients, the anthropometry data and the calculation of obesity and body index, the state of eating habits, calorie expenditure, clinical symptoms, the convenient method for analysis of nutrients, biochemical data and nutrition prescription. Having interoperability, these functions preserve the information of clients and manage the historical data. This system can insert, store, print out and generate the synthetic information of clients to provide a suitable and efficient nutrition counseling information. With accumulated client data, It does the nutrition education and counseling simultaneously. As it is developed based on internet, it provides friendly user interface. Also, Managing clients' information connected to database, it can provide a systematic and formal information. It is possible for the system to retrieve information and counsel in real time. It is expected that the nutrition counseling management system can improve the national health with animated nutrition counseling.

  • Sketch-based interface is used more and more in developing animation contents. Particularly, there has been a system where the user's sketch inputs are interpreted and presented as live motions. In this study¸ it is to design an animated flight learning system using sketch-based interface. Most of the flights include movements in three-dimensional space and have unique and complex flight patterns. In other words, the actual flight movements not only include acceleration and deceleration, rising and falling, straight or circular flying, but also may include combinations of two or more movements as they simultaneously occur such as accelerating while falling, or slowing down while rising, and so forth. And, currently existing flight learning animation system cannot present such complex flight patterns to the pilots of aircrafts or to those personnel for air-traffic controllers. Hence, it is to be shown in this study that unit-path sketch animation method can support quicker ways to create animations to present those complex flight movements, and requires lesser inputs compared to the existing frame-based animation method. Also, the flight learning system suggested uses the flight-route realization tasks to reflect complex flight patterns, and therefore creates animations close to real as possible.

  • In this work, we present interactive automultiscopic content with mobile surface haptics for multimodal interaction. Our system consists of a 40-view automultiscopic display and a tablet supporting surface haptics in an immersive room. Animated graphics are projected onto the walls of the room. The 40-view automultiscopic display is placed at the center of the front wall. The haptic tablet is installed at the mobile station to enable the user to interact with the tablet. The 40-view real-time rendering and multiplexing technology is applied by establishing virtual cameras in the convergence layout. Surface haptics rendering is synchronized with three-dimensional (3D) objects on the display for real-time haptic interaction. We conduct an experiment to evaluate user experiences of the proposed system. The results demonstrate that the system's multimodal interaction provides positive user experiences of immersion, control, user interface intuitiveness, and 3D effects.

  • Integrated irrigation management system (IIMS) that is incorporated with a microcomputer-based decision support system (DSS) has been developed and applied to paddy rice irrigation systems management. The system hardwares consist of field data acquisition units, data transmission units, central data processing units, and printing and displaying units. Ridld data to be collected include incremental rainfall, streamflow and reservoir water levels, and water levels at several irrigation canal sections within an irrigation sidtricts. The softwares are to process field data, real-time forecasting, irrigation control data, and decision variables from data-base and simulation model subsystems. And the user-interface subsystems are incorporated to present the water system operators and managers the results from data and model sugsystems. User-friendly menu with animated graphic modules are adopted to help understand irrigation controls for the district. This paper issues the overal descriptions of DSS as applied to Anjuk irrigation district. The details of major model components for the irrigation controls are presented along with real-time data collection systems. The potentials of DSS have been appraised very practical and promising for better irrigation system operation and management.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate and suggest nonviolent, emotionally and helpful games for young people. In this paper, the digital animation, advantages, disadvantages, production process, etc. for overseas trends were defined. Also, creating games with the Visual Basic language in the animated feature of the disadvantages of existing algorithms shows case and screen time, so delayed distortion appears respectively. The proposed algorithm improves the speed and distortion through the screen. Simply two games of in-game animation and animation in complex game features were designed for the experiment and showed the superiority of the proposed algorithm by running. In this paper, the user interface of the game for children and proposed relevant algorithms were designed and resultant screens of the game showed. Most of contemporary games are violent to children. Therefore, in order to solve such problems, the game which is not violent but educative and child-friendly was designed and implemented in this paper. The future study on the game with a more in-depth is needed for animation techniques.

  • One of recent trends in Web-based GIS is the system development using FOSS (Free and Open Source Software). Open Source software is independent from the technologies of commercial software and can increase the reusability and extensibility of existing systems. In this study, we developed a Web-based GIS for interactive visualization of geographic information using Google Earth and spatial DBMS(database management system). Google Earth Plug-in and Google Earth API(application programming interface) were used to embed a geo-browser in the Web browser. In order to integrate the Google Earth with a spatial DBMS, we implemented a KML(Keyhole Markup Language) generator for transmitting server-side data according to user's query and converting the data to a variety of KML for geovisualization on the Web. Our prototype system was tested using time-series of LAI(leaf area index), forest map, and crop yield statistics. The demonstration included the geovisualization of raster and vector data in the form of an animated map and a 3-D choropleth map. We anticipate our KML generator and system framework will be extended to a more comprehensive geospatial analysis system on the Web.

  • Cartoons and consequently animation are an effective way of visualizing futuristic scenarios. Here we look at how animation is becoming ubiquitous and an integral part of this future today: the cybernetic and mediated society that we are being transformed into. Animation therefore becomes a form of speech between humans and this networked reality, either as an interface or as representation that gives temporal form to objects. Animation or specifically animated films usually are associated with character based short and feature films, fiction or nonfiction. However animation is not constricted to traditional cinematic formats and language, the same way that design and communication have become treated as separate fields, however according to $Vil{\acute{e}}m$ Flusser they aren't. The same premise can be applied to animation in a networked culture: Animation has become an intrinsic to design processes and products - as in motion graphics, interface design and three-dimensional visualization. Video-games, virtual reality, map based apps and social networks constitute layers of an expanded universe that embodies our network based culture. They are products of design and media disciplines that are increasingly relying on animation as a universal language suited to multi-cultural interactions carried in digital ambients. In this sense animation becomes a discourse, the same way as Roland Barthes describes myth as a type of speech. With the objective of exploring the role of animation as a design tool, the proposed research intends to develop transmedia creative visual strategies using animation both as narrative and as an user interface.
