  • The present study aims to design an application for anger control training of individuals and test its practical usability with the goal of encouraging preventive training in daily life. This study also investigates, through usability evaluation, whether users can use the application to carry out the actual anger management training program, whether it is useful and convenient, and whether it produces adequate learning effects. In order to conduct usability evaluation, a usability evaluation scale comprised of six factors-utility, reuse intention, learning, error, and reflectivity-was derived, and survey items tailored to each factor were produced. The association between usability evaluation elements, user demographic parameters, mobile usage behavior, and state anger was also examined. The result demonstrated that additional menus and features are necessary to increase the usability of the application for anger management. The result also revealed that it is vital to build an intuitive application interface that users unfamiliar with mobile app functionality can easily navigate, as well as to add entertaining components in the content, as users may be somewhat bored. On the basis of the findings, ideas of modifying and creating anger management training programs were discussed.

  • Objective : Using patterns of change in heart rate variability (HRV), we investigated the effects of stress exposure and type of anger expression on cardiovascular diseases. Methods : Eighty-nine medical students were evaluated by STAXI-K, BDI, BAI, and measured HRV. According to the scores of anger expression questions in STAXI-K, objects are comparted to three groups. Each group is compared with others on the levels of depression, anxiety and HRV. Additionally objects are divided into two groups of functional anger expression group and dysfunctional anger expression group, and each group also divided into two groups, depending on the exposure of stressful situation or not. Members who took part in the stress exposure groups, they've got a serial arithmetic process for five minutes. We surveyed patterns of HRV in 4 each groups and estimated interactions between existence of stressful situation or type of anger expression and HRV. Results : Irrespective of stress manipulation, the dysfunctional anger expression group showed a marked increase in the LF/HF ratio in comparison to the functional anger expression group. Also, under conditions of stress manipulation, the stress exposure group exhibited a relatively increased level of TP. It can't be discriminated any correlations between stress manipulation and type of anger expression. Conclusion : Both of them, exposure to the stressful situation and type of anger expression, have influence on cardiovascular diseases. By controlling anger and way of express that, it is possible to diminish the incidence of cardiovascular diseases.

  • This study investigated the differential interactive effects of the combination of driving confidence and sensation-seeking on driving anger among different age groups, by using correlation analysis, a hierarchical regression and ANOVAs for the data gathered through the questionnaires administrated in a form of face-to-face interview. The results showed the followings. First, males tended to show higher level in driving anger than females. Second, whereas sensation-seeking was positively correlated with driving anger, age and driving experience were negatively correlated with driving anger, respectively. Third, although there was no significant relationship between driving confidence and driving anger among the drivers aged under 40 years, the drivers aged over 40 years showed higher level of driving anger as their driving confidence increased. Forth, level of sensation-seeking was found to be a strong predictor of driving anger in all age groups. Fifth, driving confidence and sensation-seeking appeared to affect the level of driving anger interactively among drivers aged under 40 years or over 65 years, resulting in higher driving anger only when both the levels of driving confidence and sensation-seeking were high. In contrast, driving confidence and sensation-seeking affected driving anger independently among the drivers aged 30-49 years. Implication and suggestion were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was examine the effects of dance / movement therapy on anger and anger expression, depression and anxiety, and positive as well as negative symptoms in in-patient with schizophrenia. Among inpatients with schizophrenia in J Dajeon psychiatric hospital, 38 patients were allocated to either dance and movement therapy (DMT) group (n=18), which included 24 sessions of DMT and medical treatment over 12 weeks, or a control group (n=20), which included only medical treatment. State anger and anger control of DMT group were improved after 12 weeks, and there was a significant difference in anger control after 12 weeks between two groups. Depression of DMT group was improved, and there was significant difference in depression after 12 weeks between DMT and control group. There was a significant difference in negative symptoms after 12 weeks between DMT and control group. These finding demonstrates that DMT has benefit on the reduction of state anger by increasing anger control and depression as well as may improve negative symptoms in in-patient with schizophrenia.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate differences in the states of anger, depression, resilience and self-esteem according to type of school violence involving elementary school students. Methods: The participants were 257 elementary school students in the 4th, 5th and 6th grades. Data was collected by structured questionnaires, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$-test, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficients with the SPSS/WIN 20.0 program. Results: There were significant differences among the states of anger (Fs=16.66, p<.001), depression (Fs=18.04, p<.001), resilience (F=12.77, p<.001) and self-esteem (F=10.39, p<.001) according to the type of school violence. Of all the groups, bully-victim exhibited the highest score for anger and depression, and the lowest score for resilience and self-esteem. Conclusion: Based on the findings, developing intervention programs that consider the psychological characteristics of elementary school students is necessary. Also, the results of this study suggest that integrative programs for students that can enhance resilience and self-esteem, such as self-discovery programs, and reduce anger, such as anger control programs, need to be developed.

  • This study examined the relation between anger-coping types and hypertension in employed men aged $40\sim60$ who consented to participate during the biannual physical checkup in the department of health management in 1988. The subjects analyzed were five hundred thirteen excluding those having hypertension history and/or current antihypertensive medications. Anger-coping types were constructed from the Harburg's model with two hypothetical anger-provoking situations involving wife and boss. Hypertensives were defined more than 140mmHg systolic blood pressure and/or 90mmHg diastolic blood pressure. Hypertensives were one hundred fifty two(29.6%) and those who suppressed their anger were 61.6% and 62.8% in wife and boss situations respectively. Items of anger, guilt, protest, and suppressed anger in wife situation showed odds ratios of 0.78-0.94 without statistical significance. But four items in boss situation showed odds ratios more than 1, especially anger-in types of anger item had 1.58 times the prevalence of hypertension of anger-out types(95% confidence intervals(CI) $1.06\sim2.35$) and subjects who indicated that suppressed their anger had 1.55 times the prevalence of hypertension of those who expressed their anger(95% CI $1.03\sim2.32$). For anger suppressed vs. expressed types of total suppressed anger index, prevalence of hypertension was 1.31 (95% CI $0.83\sim2.08$). After adjusting for age, body mass index, smoking and drinking, the odds ratios were slightly increased in both situations except guilt items compared with univariate analysis. These results suggest that the relation between Harburg's anger-coping model and hypertension is replicated partially in this subjects.
