  • A simulator in Android is developed for Qualcomm Augmented Reality (QCAR) software development kit (SDK). The main purpose is to replace the testing of application on actual Android device. Bugs in the application can be found easily when testing is done in the simulator (with support of Android emulator) before the testing on real device. The simulator does not require a camera in testing augmented reality application. Works included study on QCAR SDK's behavior is done to ensure that the simulator performs similar to the SDK. Description on how would the simulator works with QCAR SDK is included in the paper.

  • Smartphones have features that users feel free to install/delete the program they want. Their emergence makes many developers rush into the Smartphone application development market. Thus, developing good applications quickly is becoming even more intense competition in the market. Because, however, the application development and deployment procedures are simple in the Android environments and anyone can participate in the development easily, applications not validated thoroughly are likely to be deployed. Therefore, a systematic approach that can verify Android-based applications with fewer burdens is required. In this paper, we propose a method that generates automatically GUI-based testing scenarios for the Android applications. The automated test scenario generation can reduce the time which the developer spends on testing, thus it can improve the productivity of the development in the testing phase.

  • Using the intent of the Android application, an application can execute other application's components. However, if interaction between these components are not processed normally, such problems as incorrect component execution and unhandled system broadcast may be occurred. In this paper, to generate test scenarios for inter application interaction, a testing approach is proposed using a merged intent list and a single merged diagram. The proposed method can effectively be carried out to check the abnormal interaction among the applications which was not considered in existing testing approaches.

  • This paper developed the software testing factory-cloud testing platform (STF-CTP) to address the software compatible issues in various smart devices. Software developers who only require uploading the application under test (AUT) and test script can test plenty of smart devices in STF-CTP. The challenge for the cloud test platform is how to optimize the resource and increase the performance in the limited resource. This paper proposed a new scheduling mechanism and a new process of the system operation which is based on the OpenStack platform. We decrease about 40% memory usage of OpenStack server, increase 3% to 10% Android device usage of STF-CTP, enhance about 80% test job throughput and reduces about 40% test job average waiting time.

  • Android applications are composed of one or more components. The components within an application or several applications may interact with each other primarily through intents. Such interactions may cause security and reliability issues such as broadcast theft, activity hijacking, and intent spoofing. These problems need to be resolved through testing techniques using various interaction test scenarios before an application gets launched. However, with the existing test scenario generation approach, some infeasible test scenarios may be generated since they do not consider the re-execution order based on activity setting when pressing the back button. This paper proposes a test case generation technique which removes infeasible interaction paths by utilizing the activity stack information.

  • BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) has been extensively used for communication between mobile applications and wearable devices in IoT (Internet of Things). In developing Android applications, wearable devices, on which the applications can run, should be available because the existing Android SDK does not support any BLE emulation facility. In this study, we have designed and implemented the first Android BLE emulator. Using this, we are able to develop and test BLE-based Android applications even when without wearable devices. We have also proposed an automatic generation method of Android BLE scenarios based on graph model. We have shown that the method is useful for systematically testing BLE application protocols by running the generated scenarios on the Android BLE emulator.

  • The context-awareness of mobile applications yields several issues for testing, since mobile applications should be able to be tested in any environment and under any contextual input. In previous studies of testing for Android applications as an event-driven system, many researchers have focused on using generated test cases considering only Graphical User Interface (GUI) events. However, it is difficult to find failures that could be detected when considering the changes in the context in which applications run. It is even more important to consider various contexts since the mobile applications adapt and use the new features and sensors of mobile devices. In this paper, we provide a method of systematically generating various executing contexts from permissions. By referring to the lists of permissions, the resources used by the applications for running Android applications can be easily inferred. To evaluate the efficiency of our testing method, we applied the method on two open source projects and showed that it contributes to improve the statement code coverage.

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) is happening now. By implementing IoT, we can build smart home system. Smart home is an application that is a combination of technology and services that specialize in the home environment with specific functions aimed at improving the efficiency, comfort and security of the occupants. Smart homes filled with connected products are loaded with possibilities to make our lives easier, more convenient, and more comfortable. This intelligent home system uses a microcontroller to process functions that provided by smart home system, such functions as RFID for door access and PIR sensors for motion detection. By using Android users could control the sensors anytime and anywhere. Microcontroller used is Arduino IDE with WeMos D1R2 board. Based on the testing process, there was a successful communication between the components of the device, sensors, and Android devices. Users could open or close the solenoid, users can also turn off or turn on electronic devices using Android.

  • This paper presents a virtual sensor system that is an effective method to test application software of smart sensors. The common way of testing sensor application is to build a test board, connect sensors to the board, and test sensor applications on the board with sensor's measurements as inputs. The problem of testing sensor application software with sensor's measurements as inputs is the restriction of test data. In other words, software testers cannot manipulate test data, because test data is generated by sensors. To solve this problem a virtual sensor system is presented in this paper. The virtual sensor system enables software testers to manipulate measurements of sensors. In the virtual sensor system, generation of virtual sensors comprises three stages - sensor selection, sensor characterization, and determination of output patterns. Sensor's measurements that can be manipulated through the virtual sensor system make the process of testing efficient. To show the usefulness of our virtual sensor system, it is applied to sensor applications in Android platform and the result of experiments is shown.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a smartphone application and evaluate it's effectiveness and usability for promoting bone health in Korean young adult women. Methods: A smartphone application was developed covering exercise, nutrition, and health habits related to bone health. A pilot testing was conducted using a one-group pre/posttest design. A total of 22 female college students with low bone mass participated in the 8-week use of a pilot testing. Results: The "Strong bone Fit body (SbFb)" application was developed using Android platform. In the pilot testing, bone mineral density, serum CTX, and 25 (OH)Vit.D were significantly decreased. There is no significant change in serum osteocalcin and calcium. Serum phosphorus concentration, nutrient intakes (fiber, VitB6, and pantotenic acid), and all bone composition profiles were significantly increased. Bone-health knowledge was significantly increased but no change in health belief and self-efficacy. Conclusion: The results of this pilot testing suggest the effectiveness of the SbFb application to enhance and promote self-managing abilities for bone health. It can provide continuous feedback and high-quality bone health information. However, some contents and working methods of the application need to be modified and its effectiveness on bone health requires further investigations.
