In order to comprehension of the behaviour of PAHs in air which is known as carcinogens and/or mutagens suspended Particulates in ambient air were collected by Anderson air sampler from 1992. 6 to 1993. 5 in Seoul. Ten species of PAHs( Phen, An, Fl, R, Py, BaAn, BaP, Chry, BeP, DiB(a, h)An, I123p) were analyzed to understand monthly variations of PAHs distribution of PAHs concentration according to particle size, and correlation between PAHs and independent charactierstics of PAHs The highest concentration of TSP was 155.58$\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥ in May and the lowest was 60$\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥ in August. Concentration of TSP was more affected by coarse particles in spring, otherwise which was more affected by fine particles in winter. According to results of anaylsis of samples that were collected by Anderson air sampler, concentration of PAHs was more high in winter than that in summer. In almost samples collected by Anderson air sampler, concentration of PAHs was more high in coarse particles than in fine particles, but BaP well known as carcinogenic matter had more high concentration in fine particles(56-97.5%) than that in coarse particles(2.5-46%). Correlation between concentrations of TSP and PAHs was more high in fine Particles than in coarse Particles. Both fine particles and coarse particles have negative correaltion with radiation.
Distribution of airborne microorganisms was determined with two different types of air samplers, the Anderson cascade sampler and the Aerobioscope sampler, in the vicinity of Taejon. The size distribution of particles carrying bacteria and fungi was concurrently measured. The concentration of detected viable airborne particles was greatly varied. It was observed that the number of microbial particles increased in April and October. The most isze o particles carrying bacteria was larger than 4.7 .mu.m in mean aerodiameter, which made up 69.8% of the total particle fraction. About 63.2% of fungi-carrying particles were smaller than 4.7 .mu.m in aerodiameter. The distribution of particles on Yellow Sand Phenomena days was also analyzed. The number of fine particles having mass median aero-diameter from 1.0 to 10.mu.m increased on Yellow Sand Phenomena days to about 6 times that on normal days and the n umber of colony forming unit (CFU/$\textrm{m}^3$) of airborne bacteria also increased by 4.3 times in April. The reuslts from the Anderson sampler showed that the concentration of bacteria increased greatly on the fraction of fine particles ranging from 0.6 $\mu$m to 4.7 $\mu$m in diameter. Unlike the increase in bacterial floraon Yellow Sand Phenomena days, the fungal concentration slightly decreased and showed a normal size distribution parttern. This study suggests that a long-range transmission of bacteria results form bacteria adsorbing onto the fine particles during the Yellow Sand Phenomena.
The concentration of Total Suspended Particulates(T.S.P), size distribution of suspended particulates, and soluble anions of T.S.P in atmosphere of industrial region in Busan were investigated. T.S.P was measured by High-Volume Air Sampler and particle size distribution was measured by Anderson Air Sampler. We analyzed the chemical component of the T.S.P by ion Chromatography and measure4 the shape and size of T.S.P by Scanning Electron Micrography The small size of T.S.P mainly exist in industrial region, but the large size of T.S.P mainly exist in residentail area.
Aerosol size distribution were determined in Seoul by Anderson sampler from October 1989 to September 1991 for the major ionic species(SO$_{4}$$^{2-}$, NO$_{3}$$^{-}$, Cl$^{-}$, Na$^{+}$, Na$^{+}$, K$^{+}$, Ca$^{2+}$ and Mg$^{2+}$) and TSP( Total Suspended Particles ). The seasonal variations in concentrations and size distribution have been investigated. The size distributions of TSP and each of ionic species were bimodal throughout the year. The size distribution of these ions were divided as follows; (1) fine- mode dominant for SO$_{4}$$^{2-}$ and N%'. (2) coarse- mode dominant for NO$_{3}$$^{-}$, Cl$^{-}$, Ca$^{2+}$ and Mg$^{2+}$. (3) both- mode dominant for TSP.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to assess indoor air quality within and around buildings and evaluate the health risks associated with exposure to indoor air pollution. The study compares IAQ standards established by the World Health Organization with those set by South Korea's Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Education. Methods: The study utilized an Anderson Sampler and DustTrakTM II to collect samples of total airborne bacteria and PM in indoor and outdoor environments. Collected samples were analyzed using biological and biochemical methods. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS to examine the correlation between airborne bacteria and PM. Results: The study revealed that the concentration of total airborne bacteria in indoor air generally remained below the Ministry of Environment's standard of 800 CFU/m3, although it surpassed this threshold in certain instances. PM concentrations did not exceed the standards. Indoor fine dust concentration was higher when there were people (P<0.05). There was no difference in total floating bacterial concentrations between indoor and outdoor environments (P=0.184). Finally, there was a correlation between fine dust and airborne bacteria concentrations. Conclusion: The study evaluated the concentrations of total airborne bacteria and PM in indoor air, emphasizing the importance of managing IAQ. Further research in various environments is essential to ensure a healthy indoor environment. The findings underscore the need for ongoing research and management to enhance IAQ and create safer and healthier living environments.
This research was carried out using Anderson air sampler which were set up on the roof of the Engineering College of Konkuk University at Hwayang-Dong, Kwangjin-Gu, Seoul from Aug. 1992 to foul. 1999. The results are as follows: The major component of yellow sand is soil particles based upon the observation that particles ranging from $3.3~7.0{\mu}m$ occupy 36~63%. It is certain that the increase of fine particles of respirable dust during yellow sand phenomenon in Seoul area affects the human body. The trace metals from natural sources like Al, Ca, Fe, K, Na, and Si show larger mass median diameter(MMD) values during yellow sand phenomenon than in normal situations while the values of MMD for Mn and Pb rarely changes. Noticeably, the changes in value of MMD of water soluble elements like ${NO_3}^{-}$ and ${SO_4}^{2}$ are 2.3 and 6.6 times higher during the yellow sand phenomenon compared to normal situations, respectively. This fact is regarded as decisive evidence showing that ${NO_3}^{-}$ and ${SO_4}^{2}$ in the air are attached to yellow sand and move together.

To study the characteristics of ammonia and the related compounds, atmospheric aerosols and gases were collected using a triple filter pack sampler, a low volume air sampler, and a three-stage Anderson air sampler in Seoul and Kangwha Island, Korea from Dec. 1996 to Oct. 1997. Ammonia concentrations showed approximately two times higher in summer than in winter at both sites. The highest $HNO_3$ levels were generally observed in summertime at two sampling sites. The average mass concentration of $PM_{2.5}$ in heavily industrialized Seoul was about three times higher than that of Kangwha. In winter, the sum of $NH_4^+$ and its counter ions (such as $Cl^-,\;NO_3^-$, and $SO_4^{2-}$) comprised $30-41\%$ of $PM_{2.5}$ mass concentration at each sampling site. Temperature dependence of particulate nitrate was examined at the urban sampling site. The formation of the nitrate in the fine mode was dependent not only on the amount of precursors but also on the variation of temperature. $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ and $NH_4HSO_4$ coexisted with $NH_4NO_3$ and $NH_4Cl$ at each site. According to the summertime backward trajectory analysis, $NO_3^-$ showed higher level with air parcels transported from northeast Asian continent. On the other hand, the concentration of $SO_4^{2-}$ showed significantly higher level when air masses originated from Pacific Ocean, southern part of Japan, and Korea.

Anion concentrations and distributions of airborne fine particles less than 2 $\mu$m in urban atmosphere were determined from Feb. 5 to 16, 1996. The sampling was carried out using 8 stages Hering's low pressure impactor (LPI, aerodynamic cutoff diameters are 0.05, 0.075, 0.11, 0.26, 0.50, 1.0, 2.0, and 4.0$\mu$m) on the top of a five-story building located at Kon-Kuk university in Seoul. Average concentrations if C $l^{[-10]}$ , N $O_3$$^{[-10]}$ and S $O_4$$^{2-}$ were 9.4, 8.4, and 14.5 $\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥, respectively. The distributions of these anion concentrations were bimodal types which showed two peaks in the range of 0.075~0.12 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 0.5~1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in aerodynamic diameter. These results were 2.5~4.7 times higher than anion concentrations collected by Anderson low volume air sampler.

Concentration of particulate nitrate originated from sea salt in ambient air was determined from February to October 1993. Sampling was carried out using a two-stage Anderson air sampler at the top of a five-story building located at Kon-Kuk University in Seoul. Concentration of NaNO$_3$, which originated from sea salt was highest in spring time and lowest in summer the and the concentration range was between 0.10 and 0.66 $\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥. NaNO$_3$/TSP ratio was very low 0.05~0.39%) indicating that the portion of NaNO$_3$ in TSP was negligible.
