Navigation Control of Mobile Robot based on VFF to Avoid Local-Minimum in a Corridor Environment (복도환경의 지역최소점 회피가 가능한 VFF 기반의 이동로봇 주행제어)

  • This paper deals with the method of using the amended virtual force field technique to avoidance the front environment(wall, obstacles etc.) in navigating by using the environmental informations recognized by a ultrasonic-ring and pan/tilt CCD camera equipped on a mobile robot. we will give an explanation for the robot system architecture designed and implemented in this study and a short review of existing techniques, since there exist several recent thorough books and review paper on this paper. It is proposed the rusult from the experimental run based on a virtual force field(VFF) method to support the validity of the aforementioned architecture of mobile service robot for local navigation and obstacle avoidance for autonomous mobile robots. We will conclude by discussing some possible future extensions of the project. The results show that the proposed algorithm is apt to identify obstacles in an indoor environments to guide the robot to the goal location safely.

An Object Detection System using Eigen-background and Clustering (Eigen-background와 Clustering을 이용한 객체 검출 시스템)

  • The object detection is essential for identifying objects, location information, and user context-aware in the image. In this paper, we propose a robust object detection system. The System linearly transforms learning data obtained from the background images to Principal components. It organizes the Eigen-background with the selected Principal components which are able to discriminate between foreground and background. The Fuzzy-C-means (FCM) carries out clustering for images with inputs from the Eigen-background information and classifies them into objects and backgrounds. It used various patterns of backgrounds as learning data in order to implement a system applicable even to the changing environments, Our system was able to effectively detect partial movements of a human body, as well as to discriminate between objects and backgrounds removing noises and shadows without anyone frame image for fixed background.

Reliable Continuous Object Detection Scheme in Wireless Sensor Networks (무선 센서 네트워크에서 신뢰성 있는 연속 개체 탐지 방안)

  • In wireless sensor networks, reliable event detection is one of the most important research issues. For the reliable event detection, previous works usually assume the events are only individual objects such as tanks and soldiers. Recently, many researches focus on detection of continuous objects such as wild fire and bio-chemical material, but they merely aim at methods to reduce communication costs. Hence, we propose a reliable continuous object detection scheme. However, it might not be trivial. Unlike individual objects that could be referred as a point, a continuous object is shown in a dynamic two-dimensional diagram since it may cover a wide area and it could dynamically alter its own shape according to physical environments, e.g. geographical conditions, wind, and so on. Hence, the continuous object detection reliability can not be estimated by the indicator for individual objects. This paper newly defines the reliability indicator for continuous object detection and proposes an error recovery mechanism relying on the estimation result from the new indicator.

A Study on a 3-Dimensional Positioning System over Indoor Wireless Environments (실내 무선 환경에서 3차원 위치 추적 시스템에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for three dimensional positioning system and implement a system over indoor wireless channel. A commercial modules are used for mobile and fixed nodes which are product of German company Nanotron Co. This module adopts chirp spread spreading scheme as modulation method to improve the ranging resolution and the module satisfies the IEEE standard 802.15.4a. The distance computation is based on received signal strength(RSS) levels and trilateration method. A testbed was set up to measure and compare the positioning estimation error of the proposed algorithm. The experiments results showed that the accuracy of location estimation was sufficiently good as much as 1m distance error in a wireless environment in an office building.

An Efficient Buffer Cache Management Scheme for Heterogeneous Storage Environments (이기종 저장 장치 환경을 위한 버퍼 캐시 관리 기법)

  • Flash memory has many good features such as small size, shock-resistance, and low power consumption, but the cost of flash memory is still high to substitute for hard disk entirely. Recently, some mobile devices, such as laptops, attempt to use both flash memory and hard disk together for taking advantages of merits of them. However, existing OSs (Operating Systems) are not optimized to use the heterogeneous storage media. This paper presents a new buffer cache management scheme. First, we allocate buffer cache space according to access patterns of block references and the characteristics of storage media. Second, we prefetch data blocks selectively according to the location of them and access patterns of them. Third, we moves destaged data from buffer cache to hard disk or flash memory considering the access patterns of block references. Trace-driven simulation shows that the proposed schemes enhance the buffer cache hit ratio by up to 29.9% and reduce the total I/O elapsed time by up to 49.5%.

  • What is the national competitive power\ulcorner What are the determinants of national competitive advantage\ulcorner In order to find these problems, this study was initiated theoretically through the international trade theory and international managerial strategic theory. The flow of studies, in connection with these competitive advantage, come into industries competitive advantage from national competitive advantage. It is understood that the flow of studies is based on the change of paradigm about the international industry environment. Today, the international industry environment has been changed into vigorous situation with the new trade system such as globalization, UR negotiation, WTO system instead of GATT. Among these environments, all enterprises in any industries should try to enhance their benefit, income profits and develop their management strategy, because it is essential for them to keep and make a profit in order to be competitive against all other rivaling enterprises. According to researchers and the ages of history, the concept and determinants of competitive advantage have been dissimiliar as followings. 1) Theory of absolute advantage : Absolute Product Cost. 2) Theory of comparative advantage : Comparative Product Cost. 3) Theory of reciprocal demand : the Reciprocal Demand Structure. 4) Theory of Hechsher-Ohlin : Factor Endowment. 5) Paradox of Leontief : the Quality of Factor Endowment. 6) Theory of technological gap : R & D. 7) Technological gap model : The Technological Gap. 8) Theory of the product life cycle : Product Life Cycle. 9) Christensen's study : Firm's character & manager's character. 10) Monopolistic Advantage Theories : Monopolistic Advantage 11) Electic theory : Ownership, location and internalization specific advantages. 12) Theory of value chain : Cost advantage, Differentiation, Focus. However all these theories have the limit of illustration regarding today's competitive situation, the Porter's theory shows well the determinants of competitive advantage with competitive strategy. Development of Database Management System for Agriculture Facilities Using Geographic Information System (GIS를 이용한 농업시설물 데이터베이스관리시스템 개발)

  • The environments in current farming and fishing communities have been exacerbated by the shortage of personnel caused by aging, the deficiency of equipment, and the decrease in produce prices. To help solve these issues, this study examined the history, such as inspections, failures, and repairs, by constructing a database for underground water wells, pumping stations, and irrigation, which are critical for management among agriculture production infrastructures. In particular, in the case of underground water wells, their optimal locations were determined using spatial information, such as a geological map of water resources, a water vein map, and underwater depth, because indiscreet installations and an absence of spatial information resulted in economic losses and environmental pollution. Therefore, this study could efficiently manage many facilities scattered in rural areas by developing a system. An analysis of the status of 14 underground water wells using spatial information showed that the location information at six points was specified incorrectly. On the other hand, a site investigation showed that the water vein map analysis at one point was inaccurate.

  • Disaster accidents at industrial sites have been increasing every year. In shipyards there are countless enclosed spaces causing issues like harmful-toxic gases stuck in those sealed areas. And due to such special and complicated structures of the working places with many layers of walls separating each other, there exist more issues of communication with workers trapped inside when accidents happen. Under this circumstance there must be a huge difficulty to evacuate or rescue the workers in case of any disaster. Therefore, in this paper, We would like to introduce the "integrated safety system" to more effectively deal with the problems and prevent such disasters in tough working environments. The suggested integrated safety system can prevent accidents in advance because it can control the data on the location of the workers in real time and the numerical values such as gas, oxygen, and carbon dioxide generated in the workplace in real time.

Improvement of Indoor Positioning Accuracy using Smart LED System Implementation (스마트 LED 시스템을 이용한 실내위치인식 정밀도 개선)

  • In this paper, in order to minimize limitations such as signal interference and positioning errors in existing indoor positioning systems, a smart LED-based positioning system for excellent line-of-sight radio environments and precise location tracking is proposed to improve accuracy. An IEEE 802.4 Zigbee module is mounted on the SMPS board of a smart LED; RSSI and LQI signals are received from a moving tag, and the system is configured to transmit the measured data to the positioning server through a gateway. For the experiment, the necessary hardware, such as the gateway and the smart LED module, were separately designed, and the experiment was conducted after configuring the system in an external field office. The positioning error was within 70cm as a result of performing complex calculations in the positioning server after transmitting a vector value of the moving object obtained from the direction sensor, together with a signal from the moving object received by the smart LED. The result is a significantly improved positioning error, compared to an existing short-range wireless communications-based system, and shows the level at which commercial products can be implemented.

  • In the fruit harvesting field, interest in automatic robot harvesting is increasing due to various seasonality and rising harvesting costs. Accurate apple detection is a difficult problem in complex orchard environments with changes in light, vibrations caused by wind, and occlusion of leaves and branches. In this paper, we introduce a dataset and an adaptive heatmap regression model that are advantageous for robot automatic apple harvesting. The apple dataset was labeled with not only the apple location but also the visibility. We propose a method to detect the center point of an apple using an adaptive heatmap regression model that adjusts the Gaussian shape according to visibility. The experimental results showed that the performance of the proposed method was applicable to apple harvesting robots, with MAP@K of 0.9809 and 0.9801 when K=5 and K=10, respectively.
