Wireless Construction Strength Monitoring System for Estimating Concrete Strength by the Maturity Method

  • With the advancement of smart construction technologies, researches are being conducted on technologies to monitor construction site conditions in real-time. Particularly, with the advancement of communication technologies, it has become possible to transmit and receive information quickly and accurately even in environments with difficult communication such as construction sites. These communication technologies are utilized for real-time management of construction site information and safety management based on worker location etc. Therefore, in this study, a system is aimed to be constructed a system that can monitor concrete strength using the maturity method and transmit it wirelessly to a strength monitoring system, targeting Korean construction sites. As a result of the case application, the concrete maturity temperature was measured using sensor, and it was confirmed that the temperature data was properly transmitted to the concrete estimating system through Bluetooth Low Energy(BLE) transmission. It is anticipated that this study will contribute to the activation of smart construction technologies at construction sites, automation of safety and quality management, and improvement in construction accuracy.

Mobile Message Platform Supporting Dynamic Services based on Templates (템플릿에 기반한 동적인 서비스를 지원하는 모바일 메시지 플랫폼)

  • Although message services in mobile environments provide real-time transfer of various contents such as text, multimedia and location, they can't provide dynamic message services based on analysis of message contents. This paper proposes "message as a service" concept and presents the design methodology for a message platform. The message in this paper is composed of the data part and template part which is in charge of view and functional logic of contents. In addition, two parts of a message are transferred separately. If a terminal device stores message templates, message platform can transfer data part only and thus network traffic can be reduced. Besides an efficient network utilization, we can dynamically update message view and its functional logic by modifying templates.

  • This paper is an experimental and numerical work of Investigating the bearing capacity of shallow foundation of rubble mound under eccentric loads. Parametric centrifuge model tests at the 50g level environments with the model footings in the form of strip footing were performed by changing the loading location of model footing, relative density and materials for ground foundation. For the model ground, crushed rock sampled from a rocky mountain was prepared with a grain size distribution of having an identical coefficient of uniformity to the field condition. Model ground was also prepared with relative densities of 50 % and 80 %. For loading condition, model tests with and without eccentric load were carned out to investigate the effect of eccentric loads and a numerical analysis with the commertially available software of FLAC was performed. For numerical estimation with FLAC, the hyperbolic model of a nonlinear elastic constitutive relationship was used to simulate the stress-stram constitutive relationship of model ground and a series of triaxial compression test were carried out to find the parameters for this model Test results were analyzed and compared with Meyerhof method (1963), effective area method based on the limit equilibrium method, and a numerical analysis with FLAC.

Future Residents' Opinions about Architectural Features and Development Strategies for the University-Based Retirement Community (대학 연계형 은퇴주거단지의 건축적 특성과 개발전략에 대한 잠재 수요자의 의견 분석)

  • This study emphasizes a new senior housing type which can provide individual housing units and common facilities for retirees, particularly who will be retired from universities. It is called a university-based retirement community. This study conducted a questionnaire survey to investigate future residents' needs for architectural environments that included housing types, common facility features, and proximity, and also development methods in response to the university involvement levels. The survey questionnaire was administered in one national university in Korea. A total of 214 responses were valid for statistical analyses. Major findings are as follows: Over 65% of the respondents were willing to live in the university-based retirement community. Regarding the location of the community, they responded the community would not need to be located on campus. Preferred common facilities in the UBRC were indoor fitness centers, the shuttle bus stops connecting to the adjacent areas, and bath and sauna facilities. The respondents emphasized university's contribution toward offering educational programs for UBRC residents. Lastly, their responses to the university role and involvement in the development and construction process were identified. This study results are expected to provide essential information for facilitating the Korean model of university-based retirement communities in the future.

A Study on Degradation Characteristic of High Strength Fire Resistance Steel for Frame Structure by Acoustic Emission (음향방출법에 의한 고강도 구조요 내화강의 열화특성에 관한 연구)

  • Demand for new nondestructive evaluations is growing to detect tensile crack growth behavior to predict long term performance of materials and structure in aggressive environments, especially when they are in non-visible area. Acoustic emission technique is well suited to these problems and has drawn a keen interests because of its dynamic detection ability, extreme sensitivity and location of growing defects. In this study, we analysed acoustic emission signals obtained in tensile test of high strength fire resistance steel for frame structure with time frequency analysis methods. The results obtained are summaries as follows ; In the T and TN specimen consisting of ferrite and pearlite grains, most of acoustic emission events were produced near yield point, mainly due to the dislocation activities during the deformation. However, B specimen under $600^{\circ}C$ - 10min had a two peak which was attribute to the presence of martensite phase. The first peak is before yield point the second is after yield point. The sources of second acoustic emission peak were the debonding of martensite-martensite interface and the micro-cracking of brittle martensite phase. In $600^{\circ}C$-30min to $700^{\circ}C$-60min specimens, many signals were observed from area before yield point and counts were decreased after yield point.

  • Wired communication signals that are generated in a wheelchair and using GPS to gather speed in this study. And occupants in the helmet, and save your current location information in a wheelchair and speed information that is passed by smartphone to take advantage of the Black Box App and radio feature multi-Communications App S/W development.The results of this study can be utilized effectively a pseudo-real-time information can be shared in each other's wheelchair with many people moving. Limitations of the study at the Institute of Experimental concrete measures for the commercial approach to the development of operational models as required.

  • A LiDAR technique has the merits that survey engineers can get a large number of measurements with high precision quickly. Aerial photos and satellite sensor images are used for generating 3D spatial images which are matched with the map coordinates and elevation data from digital topographic files. Also, those images are used for matching with 3D spatial image contents through perspective view condition composed along to the designated roads until arrival the corresponding location. Recently, 3D aviation image could be generated by various digital data. The advanced geographical methods for guidance of the destination road are experimented under the GIS environments. More information and access designated are guided by the multimedia contents on internet or from the public tour information desk using the simulation images. The height data based on LiDAR is transformed into DEM, and the real time unification of the vector via digital image mapping and raster via extract evaluation are transformed to trace the generated model of 3-dimensional downtown building along to the long distance for 3D tract model generation.

Numerical Predictions of Fire Characteristics of Passenger Train Fire in an Underground Subway Tunnel, Depending on Change of Location of Ventilation Facility (지하철 터널내의 객차 화재발생시 환기실 위치변화에 따른 화재특성의 수치적 연구)

  • The study is to perform numerical analysis of train fire characteristics in an underground subway tunnel, depending the different locations of ventilation facility. To study the characteristics of train fire, two kinds of worst-case scenarios are selected, based on escape distance, escape time, and fire zone, and trends and thermal environments of tunnel are analyzed by changing the locations of ventilation facility for times. Fire characteristics is calculated by using FLUENT v.6.3.26, and turbulent flow is calculated by using the standard k-${\varepsilon}$ model. The numerical results show distribution of carbon monoxide concentration, temperature, and velocity. The results of this study will contribute to building the most suitable ventilation systems when designing subway stations and tunnels.

  • Website creations and their renewal process are very difficult due to ever-changing mobile environments such as various operating systems and mobile devices. In this regard, HTML5 serves as the solution and guideline to developing well-functioning websites. Mobile websites using HTML5 can provide consistent contents and services even though users access them through various OS or device types. This paper examines a possibility of the HTML5-based website for a local private college located in Busan. For this, location-based map service and semantic auto dialing webform service have been implemented. After making the website available, students and staff members were satisfied with the improvement in the speed of loading time and error free contents service. In the future, the rest of HTML5 functionalities are planned to be implemented sequentially.

  • Since the increasing use of smart devices such as smartphone and tablet PC improves the quality of convergence of broadcasting and telecommunication, many new media have been created. This smart device can provide personal environments based on user's profile (age, gender, and job) and current location. In addition, it can be regarded as a media platform with two-way communication. This paper proposes personalized message syndication, called PMS, based on smart devices and then analyzes its business and technical issues. The PMS service as a smart media provides consumers customized information and can be used for producer's marketing tools which can lead consumers' heart and participation.
