  • Interconnecting remote sensing systems to geographic information systems is valuable in many different applications. Two common techniques for moving data between these two related kinds of spatial data-processing systems were discussed. Digital classification of remote sensing data for use in natural resource inventory has produced mixed results. In attempts to improve classification, accuracy ancillary data, such as digitized maps and terrain(elevation) data, have been combined with remotely sensed data in various ways. These data have been used commonly in (1) preclassification scene stratification and (2) postclassification class sorting. These two approaches are found to be efficient, but lacking in sophistication due to their reliance on deterministic decision rules.

  • This research will examine into the capabilities of KOMPSAI-1 EOC image application in the field of urban environment and at the same time, with that as its foundation, come to understand the urban changes of the study areas. This research is constructed in three stages: Firstly, for application of change detection techniques, which utilizes multi-temporal remotely sensed data, the data normalization process is carried out. Secondly, change detection method is applied fur the systematic monitoring of land use changes, which utilizes multi-temporal EOC images. Lastly, by using the results of the application of land use changes, the existing land use map is updated. Consequently, the land-use change patterns are monitored, which utilize multi-temporal panchromatic EOC image data; and application potentials of ancillary data fur updating existing data can be presented. In this research, with the use of the land use change, monitoring of urban growth has been carried out, and the potential for the application of KOMPSAT-1 EOC images and the scope of application was examined. Henceforth, the future expansion of the scope of application of KOMPSAT-1 EOC image is anticipated.

  • Soil moisture is an essential satellite-driven variable for understanding hydrologic, pedologic and geomorphic processes. The European Space Agency (ESA) has endorsed soil moisture as one of Climate Change Initiates (CCI) and had merged multi-satellites over 30 years. The $0.25^{\circ}$ coarse resolution soil moisture satellite data showed correlations with variables of a water stress index, Temperature-Vegetation Dryness Index (TVDI), from a stepwise regression analysis. The ancillary data from TVDI, Land Surface Temperature (LST) and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) from MODIS were inputted to a multi-regression analysis for estimating the surface soil moisture. The estimated soil moisture was validated with in-situ soil moisture data from April, 2012 to March, 2013 at Andong observation sites in South Korea. The soil moisture estimated using satellite-based LST and NDVI showed a good agreement with the observed ground data that this approach is plausible to define spatial distribution of surface soil moisture.

  • The North Ecliptic Pole (NEP) Wide survey covered about 5.4 $deg^2$, a nearly circular area centered on the NEP, using nine passbands of InfraRed Camera (IRC). We present the photometric properties of the data sets, and the nature of the sources detected in this field. The number of detected sources varied according to the filter band: with about 109,000 sources in the NIR, about 20,000 sources in the MIR-S, and about 16,000 sources seen in the MIR-L channel. The $5{\sigma}$ detection limits are about 21 mag in the NIR and 19.5 - 18.5 mag in the MIR bands in terms of the AB magnitude. 50% completeness levels are about 19.8 mag at $3{\mu}m$, 18.6 mag at $9{\mu}m$, and 18 mag at $18{\mu}m$ band (in AB magnitude), respectively. In order to validate the detected sources, all of them are confirmed by matching tests with those in other bands. The 'star-like' sources, defined by the high stellarity and magnitude cut from the optical ancillary data, appear statistically to have a high probability of being stars. The nature of the various types of extragalactic sources in this field are discussed using the color-color diagrams of the NIR and MIR bands with the redshift tracks of galaxies providing useful guidelines.

  • A new real-time constrained dispatch scheduling (CDS) is needed for TWBP. The CDS needs to be performed at every dispatch period to decide generation power of scheduling generators and amounts of scheduling load. Therefore, the CDS is not based on real generation costs but on bidding data of market participants with some constraints such as power balance, generation limits, ancillary service, and transmission line limits. This paper selects linear programming(LP) as an optimization tool for the CDS and presents effective formulae for the LP application. This paper also presents the way of minimizing the number of variables and constraints of the LP to improve real-time applicability.

  • This study focuses on monitoring the surface UHI in a tropical city of Bangkok in both spatial and temporal dimensions based on MODIS- and TM -derived land surface temperature (LST). The spatial extension and magnitude of the surface UHI are explored for days and nights as well as its variations through the dry (least-clouded) season. Surface UHI growth between 1993 and 2002 is mapped using highresolution LANDSAT TM thermal bands. UHI patterns are, then, analyzed in association with land/vegetation covers derived from high-resolution ETM+ and ASTER satellites and ancillary data.

  • SCUBA-2 North Ecliptic Pole survey, one of the ongoing JCMT large programs, is designed to obtain 850 ㎛ imaging data over ~4 deg2 around the NEP based on the AKARI NEP-Wide survey. By August 2019, the program is 50 % complete in terms of observing time, increasing the submillimeter coverage by a factor of 2 with the comparable depth. The rms measured in the deepest center is 0.92 mJy/beam, slightly above the 850 ㎛ confusion limit. With 4 σ detection, the source count is 50 % complete at 9 mJy. The surface density of submillimeter galaxies at this flux limit is 200 deg-2. Multi-wavelength identification of the 850 ㎛ sources was done through the likelihood analysis based on the far-infrared (250-500 ㎛), mid-infrared (18 ㎛), near-infrared (2-4 ㎛), and optical (i-band) source catalog. We are going to present morphologies and physical properties of 850 ㎛ selected submillimeter galaxies with the help of ancillary multi-wavelength datasets over the NEP area.

  • We explored the effect of galaxy-galaxy interaction on the FIR-radio correlation of star-forming galaxies by comparing the qFIR parameter distribution between interacting and non-interacting galaxies. Our sample galaxies were selected from the SDSS Stripe 82 region, where relatively deep optical images are available in addition to ancillary FIR and radio data. The qFIR values were 2.73±0.49 and 2.53±0.90 for interacting and non-interacting galaxies, respectively. The t-test results indicated that the difference in qFIR values between the two categories is not statistically significant. Our findings align with those of previous studies suggesting that either FIR excess or radio excess occurs only transiently during brief timescales in the merger stages, rather than persisting throughout the majority of merger events identified by features such as tidal tails or double nuclei.
