  • This study is a literature review on berries and their cooking methods that appear in ancient and modern Korean literature. Due to recent reports on berries' excellent functionality and the public's growing interest in healthy living, berries have been attracted attention as promising forms of sustenance. By structuring and classifying the types of berries and their popularity as well as recipes using berries found in ancient and modern Korean literature, this review hopes to serve as an important source that reflects both the food culture and social aspects associated with the value of berries in the lives of Korean people as well as foster understanding of the superiority of Korean food culture. This study will also have implications on the possibility of integrating antioxidant-rich berries into the modern food landscape. The study results are summarized as follows. Types of berries were classified into six types (Korean cherry, Omija, Gugija, Bokbunja, Black cherry, Mulberry) while cooking methods were classified into five types (Korean traditional snack, Korean traditional beverage, Liquors, Porridge, Pilule) in the ancient and modern literature of Korea. The aim of this literature review is to highlight the value-creating aspect of berries as food materials that can yield high added-value products. Beyond their value as healthy fruits, this study will explore the features of berries that enhance their added value and brand marketing as well as their aspects suitable for application to the modern industry of berry product development.

  • This paper explores the upper and lower contexts of the literature, and examines the meaning that the context intends to say and the era indicated by '古'. This not only helps to objectively and concretely recognize and interpret the "old" era, it can also be used to dig deeper into the meaning of the literature. In particular, such research is expected to play an even greater role in the literature that needs to clarify historical facts. '古' can be specified differently depending on the literature. In this paper, in particular, focusing on this point, in order to examine more closely how the periodic interpretation of '古' was done, the interpretation and usage examples of '古' were intensively examined. Notable items in the meaning of '古' are the meanings of beginning, ancestor, always, forever, and so on. In particular, in historical literature, the first beginning of civilization was viewed as 'old'. It is emphasized that the age of pay wages is viewed as the "old" at the base point.

  • Objectives : Considering the indigenousness of Korean medicine, the historical record was first introduced in 1946 as follows; a Chinese person, Ji-chong (知聰), brought 164 volumes of medical books to Japan via Goguryeo (高句麗) in A.D. 562. Since this event happened, Korean Oriental Medicine has been derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine because ancient Korean Medicine originated and was developed in China. The purpose of this study was to investigate the existence and role of Ji-chong in the history of medical exchanges between ancient Korea and Japan. Methods : We studied Ji-chong through ancient and modern historical literatures such as Nihon Shoki (日本書紀), the record of $Shinsen-sh{\bar{o}}jiroku$ (新撰姓氏錄), Korean Medical History (韓國醫學史), Japanese Medical History (日本醫學史), Samguk Sagi (三國史記), etc. Results : We found indications of the existence of Ji-chong and the import of Chinese medical literature to the ancient Korean peninsula by examining domestic and foreign historical literature. Especially, he was closely related to historical assumptions about the Japanese conquest of Goguryeo in A.D. 562, although without objective historical evidence and described only in modern Japanese historical records and Korean Medical History. However, substantial medical exchange toward Japan was accomplished by Korean medicine of either Goguryeo, Baekje (百濟), or Silla (新羅) dynasty until the late A.D. 6 century. Conclusions : Based on the above investigation, the idea that Ji-chong carried medical literature via Goguryeo in A.D. 562 needs to be reconsidered and the role of Ji-chong as recorded in a variety of literature and databases should be amended., Korean Oriental Medicine has been derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine because ancient Korean Medicine originated and was developed in China. • This study aims to find out the trouser types of the ancient tribes after analyzing various types of trousers discovered on the reliefs of the Achaemenian period of Persia. Then use the results of the analysis as basic data for a study on the Korean trousers type during the ancient times. For this, a theoretical background on the ancient tribes is developed by referring to the literature documents of literature, and European archeologists' papers and photo data are collected and analyzed as well. In addition to the above data, the data, which have been collected by researchers through a field study are comparatively analyzed. In terms of width, the trousers of the ancient tribes have been divided into three types: narrow, average and wide. Each type has diverse forms. The trouser types varied depending on the tribes, the regions and the manufacturing dates of the reliefs. The narrow type was popular among Median, Scythian and Kappadokian, while the average type was frequently worn by Bactrian and Sogdian who lived in the highlands in the northeastern part of Iran. Lastly, the wide type was mostly found in the southeast of Iran(Arachosia, Aria and Drangiana). The fact that trousers were discovered together with boots has been useful in guessing the lifestyle of ancient tribes. Also, even within the same tribe, the form of the trousers and how they were worn changed depending on the time period.

  • Schwannomas are uncommon neoplasms of neurologic origin that are rare in the salivary glands. A schwannoma that persists for a long time is referred to as an ancient schwannoma if it is accompanied by degenerative changes on histology. The case described herein involved a 37-year-old man with an ancient schwannoma that had persisted for 20 years in his right parotid gland. Clinically, the lesion presented with swelling and pain. Computed tomography revealed a well-defined, multilocular enhanced lesion. T2-weighted magnetic resonance images displayed multilocular hyperintensity, while T1-weighted images showed a high signal at the lobulated margin and a homogeneous low signal internally. The preoperative diagnosis, based on the lesion's location and imaging diagnosis, was Warthin's tumor. However, a biopsy conducted after surgical excision identified the lesion as a schwannoma with cystic degeneration. This report also presents a summary of the characteristics of rare cases of schwannoma in the major salivary gland based on this case and a literature review.
