For the problem that the complexity of 3-D modeling and multi parameter optimization, as well as the uncertainty of the winding factor of axial flux permanent magnet generator with coreless windings. The complex 3-D model was simplified into 2-D analytic model, and an analytical formula for the winding factor that adapting different coreless stator winding is proposed in this paper. The analytical solution for air-gap magnetic fields, no-load back EMF, electromagnetic torque, and efficiency are calculated by using this method. The multiple objective and multivariable optimization of the maximum fundamental and the minimum harmonic content of back EMF are performed by using response surface methodology. The proposed optimum design method was applied to make a generator. The generator was tested and the calculated results are compared with the proposed method, which show good agreements.

It is known that frost formation on surfaces of the heat exchanger seriously affects the performance of the refrigeration system. Accordingly, defrosting should follow, and effective defrosting is possible only when both analytic tools and comprehensive experimental data on frost formation are assailable. An experimental investigation was undertaken to characterize the effect of environmental parameters on frost formation on a horizontal cylinder in cross uniform flow. Several experiments were carried out with various environmental parameters such as inlet air temperature, inlet air humidity, air velocity and cooling surface temperature. Frost thickness, mass, surface temperature and cylinder inner and outer temperature were measured at front and rear positions of the cylinder. Thickness, mass, density, and effective thermal conductivity of the frost layer were obtained from measured data and effects of environmental parameters on the frost formation were analyzed. Data from experiments were correlated using dimensionless variables.

In this study, the parameters of the feedwater control system (FWCS) of the OPR1000 type nuclear power plant (NPP) are optimized by response surface methodology (RSM) in order to acquire better level control performance from the FWCS. The objective of the optimization is to minimize the steam generator (SG) water level deviation from the reference level during transients. The objective functions for this optimization are relationships between the SG level deviation and the parameters of the FWCS. However, in this case of FWCS parameter optimization, the objective functions are not available in the form of analytic equations and the responses (the SG level at plant transients) to inputs (FWCS parameters) can be evaluated by computer simulations only. Classical optimization methods cannot be used because the objective function value cannot be calculated directely. Therefore, the simulation optimization methodology is used and the RSM is adopted as the simulation optimization algorithm. Objective functions are evaluated with several typical transients in NPPs using a system simulation computer code that has been utilized for the system performance analysis of actual NPPs. The results show that the optimized parameters have better SG level control performance. The degree of the SG level deviation from the reference level during transients is minimized and consequently the control performance of the FWCS is remarkably improved.

Polynomial response surface model has been widely used as approximation model which replace physical or numerical experiments in various engineering fields. Generally, low-order model is used to reduce experimental points required to construct the response surfaces, but this approach has limit to represent the highly non-linear phenomena. In this paper, we developed the method to expand modeling capabilities of polynomial response surfaces by increasing order of polynomial and selecting optimum polynomial basis functions. Genetic algorithm is used to choose optimal polynomial basis functions. Developed method was applied to analytic functions with 1 or 2 variables and wind tunnel test data modeling. The results show that this method is applicable to building response surface models for highly non-linear phenomena.
The spectral-analysis-of-surface-waves (SASW) method is a nondestructive testing method based upon generation and detection of elastic stress waves. SASW is widely used as one of the techniques to determine stiffness profile in engineering geophysics. The essential steps involved are construction of an experimental dispersion curve from data collected in situ, and inversion of the dispersion curve to determine the stiffness profile. The main object of this study is to derive an analytical Jacobian for the inversion. If we set the subsurface to N homogeneous layer, it could save 2N times Jacobian calculation compared to numerical jacobian calculation during inversion. To reconstruct a stiffness profile, constrained damped least square method was applied for the inversion. The algorithm was tested for the numerical data and for the real asphalt and tunnel data, which were able to verify the stiffness profile. The stiffness profile reconstructed by the algorithm showed the possibility to appraise the soundness of tunnel with applications SASW.
We designed a new time-domain, finite-difference, elastic wave modeling technique, based on a displacement formulation. which yields nearly correct solutions to Lamb's problem. Unlike the conventional, displacement-based, finite-difference method using a node-based grid set (where both displacements and material properties such as density and Lame constants are assigned to nodal points), in our new finite-difference method, we use a cell-based grid set (where displacements are still defined at nodal points but material properties within cells). In the case of using the cell-based grid set, stress-free conditions at the free surface are naturally described by the changes in the material properties without any additional free-surface boundary condition. Through numerical tests, we confirmed that the new second-order finite differences formulated in the cell-based grid let generate numerical solutions compatible with analytic solutions unlike the old second-order finite-differences formulated in the node-based grid set.
This study is to show the qualitative analytic methods of facial asymmetry with three-dimensional morphometry and find out asymmetry change resulted from enlarging three local regions. Steel balls (1.2mm in diameter) were attached in twenty seven landmarks of a symmetrical artificial human skull. This artificial human skull was used as experimental materials. Twelve different asymmetrical artificial human skulls were formed by gradually enlarging the mandibular body length, gonial angle, and ramus height of the left hemiface. From the three-dimensional morphometry of each skull type, nine local area measurements and three total sum area measurements(representing the mandibular area, maxillary area, and lower facial area) were acquired and made into the surface area asymmetry degree. Menton deviation itself was used as the surface area asymmetry degree while right-left percentages were used in the other measurements. These surface area asymmetry degrees were compared with each other to find out asymmetry change according to the degree of actual facial asymmetry. Through the statistical analysis, following results were obtained. The results were as follows: 1. Left maxillary area of artificial human skull was 7.13$\pm$0.26% larger while mandibular area was 4.14$\pm$0.12% smaller than each those of right hemiface. After all, left lower facial area was 1.44$\pm$0.07% larger than those of right hemiface.(n=7). 2. Among the reduce rates of surface area asymmetry degree resulted from enlarging three local regions, ramus height was similar to mandibular body length while it was bigger than those of gonial angle. 3. Among the increase rates of menton deviation resulted from enlarging the local regions, ramus height was the biggest, mandibular body length was the second and gonial angle was the smallest. These results suggest that three-dimensional morphometry can be used to qualitatively analyse facial asymmetry and the asymmetry degree is more influenced by enlarging the ramus height, mandibular body length than those of gonial angle.
Analytic research on the surface pollutant of the three storied-pagoda at the west of Gameunsaji site as well as studies of previous wet cleaning cases was undertaken in order to decide cleaning method for removing inorganic pollutants. The status of pollutant was examined by naked eye observation, SEM-EDS, XRD. Then it was compared and categorized through qualitive and quantitative analysis. The result showed that the surface pollutants consisted of iron compounds or sulfur compounds and it was crystallized in the form of circle, oval, needle, etc. Result, Low-pressure rotating vortex process cleaning, with which particular matters are sprayed in swirl, is considered to be the best method to remove the pollutants.

Analytical study based on linear fracture mechanics was conducted on propagation behavior of inclined surface crack in semi-infinite elastic body. The analytical model was assumed to be inclined surface crack under plane strain condition upon which Hertzian stress was superimposed. Supposing continuous distribution of dislocation and applying Erdogan-Gupta's method to this crack problem, the stress intensity factors $K_{I}$ and $K_{II}$) at the crack-tip were obtained for various Hertzian contact positions. Analytic results have shown that driving force for crack growth is $K_{I}$ for non-lubricated condition and $K_{II}$ for fluid and boundary lubricated condition. The coefficient of friction at the hertzian contact and crack surfaces plays an important role in predicting the direction of crack propagation. It is also found that the maximum effective stress intensity factor exists at cracks of a certain specific length depending on lubricated condition.ion.n.
While job stress evaluations are reported in the recent surveys upon the nuclear power plants(NPPs), any significant advance in the types of questionnaires is not currently found. There are limitations to their usefulness as analytic tools for the management of safety resources in NPPs. Data mining(DM) has emerged as one of the key features for data computing and analysis to conduct a survey analysis. There are still limitations to its capability such as dimensionality associated with many survey questions and quality of information. Even though some survey methods may have significant advantages, often these methods do not provide enough evidence of causal relationships and the statistical inferences among a large number of input factors and responses. In order to address these limitations on the data computing and analysis capabilities, we propose an advanced procedure of survey analysis incorporating the DM method into a statistical analysis. The DM method can reduce dimensionality of risk factors, but DM method may not discuss the robustness of solutions, either by considering data preprocesses for outliers and missing values, or by considering uncontrollable noise factors. We propose three steps to address these limitations. The first step shows data mining with response surface method(RSM), to deal with specific situations by creating a new method called response surface data mining(RSDM). The second step follows the RSDM with detailed statistical relationships between the risk factors and the response of interest, and shows the demonstration the proposed RSDM can effectively find significant physical, psycho-social, and environmental risk factors by reducing the dimensionality with the process providing detailed statistical inferences. The final step suggest a robust stress management system which effectively manage job stress of the workers in NPPs as a part of a safety resource management using the surrogate variable concept.
