Reduction of seismic pounding effects of base-isolated RC highway bridges using MR damper

  • Significant structural damages due to pounding between adjacent superstructures of multi-span reinforced concrete (RC) highway bridges have been observed in past earthquakes. Different methods have been proposed in the literature to mitigate the adverse seismic pounding effects. This paper presents an analytical investigation on the use of magnetorheological (MR) dampers in reducing seismic pounding effects of base-isolated multi-span RC highway bridges. It has been observed that MR damper can effectively reduce the seismic pounding effect. Three control strategies (passive off, passive on, and bang bang control) of MR damper have been investigated. Although all the control strategies are found to be effective, bang bang control has been observed to be the most effective.

  • 1. "GuGeupGanIBang(救急簡易方)" is a Korean annotation emergency treatment book made by scholars that were learned in medicine such as Naeuiwon(內醫院) head Yoo n Ho(尹壕) Seo Ha gun(西河君) Im Won jun(任元濬) GongJoChamPan(工曹參判) Park An sung(朴安性) Hanseongbu Jwayun(漢城府左尹) Gwon Geon(權健) SungRokDaeBuHaengByeongJoPanSeo(崇祿大夫行兵曹判書) YangCheonGun(陽川君) Heo Jong(許琮) following instructions of King Sungjong. This book was made by supplementing "EiBangRyuChwi(醫方類聚)", "HyangYakJeSengBang(鄕藥濟生方)" and "GuGeupBang(救急方)". When Yoon Ho presented it the king in May 1489(the 20th year of Sungjong), the king made the governors of each province publish it in large numbers, allowing common people to have this book and find the treatment immediately and save lives. 2. "GuGeupGanIBang(救急簡易方)" consists of 8 volumes, 127 chapters. Contents on stroke is the largest section. Separate chapters for gynecology and pediatrics let children that are easily ill and women that cannot get treatment freely be taken care of. It is an first aid medical book covering all ages, fulfilling its original purpose.

역동역학에 의한 병진운동 탄성 Arm 선단의 위치제어 (The End-Point Position Control of a Translational Flexible Arm by Inverse Dynamics)

  • This paper provides the end-point positioning of a single-link flexible robot arm by inverse dynamics. The system is composed of a flexible arm, the mobile ballscrew stage as an arm base, a DC servomotor as an actuator, and a computer. Actuator voltages required for the model of a flexible arm to follow a given tip trajectory are formulated on the basis of the Bermoullie-Euler beam theory and solved by applying the Laplace transform method, and computed by the numerical inversion method proposed by Weeks. The mobile stage as the arm base is shifted so that the end-point follows the desired trajectories. Then the trajectory of end-point is measured by the laser displacement sensor. Here, two kinds of functions are chosen for the given tip trajectories. One is what is called the bang-bang acceleration profile and the other is the Gaussian velocity profile.

住居의 儀禮空間에 관한 硏究 (A Study on the Ritual Space in Housing)

  • The aim of this study is to analyze the intrinsic meaning of housing according to meaning of ritual space in Korean housing. At a traditional housing the rites give a sacred characteristic and grade of ranks to space. According to rites Malu(Dae-Chung) is a male's space and An-Bang is a female's space. At a present housing the central characteristic of An-Bang and sexual division of space are weakened and the space of dead person is disappered. But the rites and ritual space give sacred characteristic stability and identification in housing.

『침구극비초(鍼灸極秘抄)』 연구(硏究) (A Study on 『鍼灸極秘抄(Chimgu-kukbicho)』)

  • Kim Deok-bang(金德邦)'s "Chimgu-kukbicho(鍼灸極秘抄)"(Secrets on acupuncture and moxibustion) hasn't been known throughout Korea yet, let alone its existence. Kim Deok-bang was the person who was taken to Japan as a prison during the Imjin war(Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592), and he is known to have initiated Japan's noted doctor Nagada Tokuhon(長田德本), who is comparable to Huh Jun in Korea, into the acupunctural method. Nagada Tokuhon healed many patients with the unusual blood-drawing method, which was one of the very unfamiliar scenes in Japan at that time. "Chimgu-kukbicho" shows that the very blood-drawing method was used for not a few medical treatments. This aspect can be said to be an unprecedented point of the acupunctural method in the first half of the Choseon Dynasty period as shown in "Chijong-jinam(治腫指南)" in our country, and from such a context, it is understood that the medical skills were widely distributed in Japan by Kim Deok-bang. This paper is going to lay a foundation for the argument hereafter related to this by including Provision 114 stating Kim, Deok-bang's acupunctural method like this.

인삼윤폐산(人蔘潤肺散) 및 인삼윤폐산가미방(人蔘潤肺散加味方)의 효능(效能)에 관(關)한 실험적(實驗的) 연구(硏究) (Experimental Studies on the Efficiency of Insamyounpaesan and Insamyounpaesangamibang)

  • Experimental studies were done to research the clinical effect of Insamyounpaesan and Insamyounpaesangamibang on viscousity of mucin solution, pulmonary thromboembolism, oxygen consumption in $O_3$ - exposed and Lung TBA in rats and mice. The result was obtained as follows: 1. In the effect of Insamyounpaesan and I nsamyounpaesangami-bang on the rate of viscousity sampled from mucin, Insam-younpaesan and Insamyounpaesangamibang were revealed to have a significant effect of decreasinf the rate of viscousity (p<0.05). 2. In the effect of Insamyounpaesan and Insamyounpaesangami-bang on sodium arachidonic acid induced pulmonary thrombo-embolism, Insamyounpaesan and Insamyounpaesangarnibang were revealed to have an effect of increasing the number of survival(p<0,05), but were not significant. 3. In the effect of Insamyounpaesan and Insamyounpaesangami-bang on ADP induced pulmonary thromboembolism, Insam-younpaesangamibang were revealed to have an effect of increasing the number of survival(p<0.05), but were not significant. 4. In the effect of Insamyounpaesan and Insamyounpaesangami-bang on oxygen cansumption values in rats exposed, Insamyounpaesan and Insamyounpaesangamibang were revealed to have a significant effect on the care of lung damages (p<0.05), but were not significant by Duncan's multiple comparision test. 5. In the effect of Insamyounpaesan and Insamyounpaesangami-bang on the lung TBA values in rats exposed $-O_3$, Insam-younpaesangamibang were revealed to have a significant effect (p<0.05) on the care of lung damages. In connection with the results of the studies, Insamyounpaesan and Insamyounpaesangamibang are concluded to be effective on the treatment of cough and lung and respiratory organ damages.

『한방의약계(漢方醫藥界)』 제2호 '사진삽입(寫眞揷入)'에 소개된 한의사들 연구 (A Study on the Korean Medicine Doctors introduced in 'Photo Insert' of 『HanBangEuiYakGye』 No.2)

  • The figures listed under the title of 'Photo Insert' in 『HanBangEuiYakGye』 No.2 are all those who were engaged in East Asian medicine, but they can be divided into several groups depending on the areas in which they were more focused. First, he served as a royal physician at the end of the Joseon Dynasty, or was an oriental medical doctor with outstanding medical skills during the family service. Second, he is an East Asian medicine doctor who established a school for Korean medicine education or conducted various academic activities. Third, he is an East Asian medical doctor who worked hard to lead a group of East Asian medical doctors by organizing Korean medical doctors. Looking at the reality of the oppression of ethnic medicine committed by the Japanese colonial government, they continued to seek a way to live in national medicine, which played a major role in continuing the existence of Korean medicine without destroying it. In this paper, we analyzed the 13 Korean medical doctors introduced in the "Photo Insertion" and examined the activities of modern and contemporary East Asian medical doctors.

한국 전통 "방위신상(方位神像)"을 재해석한 디자인 작품 연구 (A Study on the Re-designed Bang-Wee-Shin-Sang to the Korean Tradition)

  • 본 연구는 한국전통 "방위신상"에 담겨 있는 이미지와 상징성을 재해석하여 현대생활에 효과적으로 응용하기 위해 디자인하는 것에 그 목적을 두었다. 이론적 고찰은 한국 전통의 대표적인 "방위신상"인 "사신도", "십이지신상", "사천왕상" 등의 '지킴이'들의 형성 배경과 유래를 살펴보고. 한국 전통 "방위신상"을 현대생활의 활용에 맞게 디자인화 하는 작업의 필요성을 서술하였고, 이를 토대로 '지킴이' 시리즈의 제작과정에 대해 기술하고, 한국전통 "방위신상"은 과거와 현재를 연결시켜주는 매개체이며 민족고유의 독창성을 널리 알리는 귀중한 자료라는 것을 시사하였다. 그리고 재해석한 '지킴이' 시리즈는 스마트환경 하에서의 활용가치를 제시하였다.

공동주택 현장 측정자료를 활용한 중량충격원의 바닥충격음 차단성능 비교 (Comparison of Impact Sound Insulation Performances of Apartment Floors Against Heavy-weight Impact Sources via Field Measurement Data)

  • Notification 2013-611 of MOLIT has come into effect. It relates primarily to new standard impact source. In this study, an in-depth experimental analysis of the difference between a bang machine and an impact ball was performed via field testing of shear wall and flat plate structure at 51 sites. This paper focuses on the difference in single number quantities between a bang machine and an impact ball. At wall thicknesses of 180 and 210 mm in shear wall structure, the single number quantities exhibited differences of 3.1 and 4.5 dB, respectively, and at thicknesses exceeding 250 mm in flat plate structure, the difference was constant at 4.6 dB. With regard to flat plate structures, the single-index difference increased up to 11 dB as the thickness of the floor slab increased. In general, the highest level of contribution for the bang machine was 63 Hz, irrespective of thickness determining bandwidth. The highest level for the impact ball were 63 Hz and 125 Hz. In future research, when reviewing additional field performance measurement data, it will be necessary to consider a detailed examination instead of the current method of uniformly adding 3 dB for all thicknesses and types of structures.
