  • According to the Samkuk Saki(History of Three Nations), An-ap pond was constructed in the 14th year of the reign of King Mun-$\mu$ But this period precedes the unification of Shilla(in the 16th year the reign of king Mun-mu) and Shilla was at war. Therefore I suppose the 16th year of the King's reign is just the time of the commencement of the construction of the pond. But the real construction had not been started before the 16th year of the King's reign, after the unification of the three nations into Shilla Dynasty. Another record of making a larger pond(the 19th year of the reign of king Kyung-duk) may signify the enlargement of the very pond that had been built the 16th year of King Mun-mu's reign. Korean traditional belief was the belief in the Dragon, the Mountain God, and the Heavenly God and these was deeply rooted in the Royal family and perhaps had influenced the building of An-ap pond. Namely it is explained that Em-hae Jun sympolizes the An-ap pond itself as the sea and the Dragon lived in the sea and also the mountain built in the East bank of An-ap pond is related to the Mountain God. And also Taoism's Sin Sun Sa-Sang(Paradise philosophy) had influenced the building of the three legendary immortal islands, called Yong Ju, Bang-Jang, Bong-Rae in the An-ap pond. It is supposed that the age of An-ap pond from the above mentioned facts and inferences and we can also understand the influence of the Royal family customs on the building of An-ap pond. The inscriptions on the vessels and architectural accessories suggest us the influence of the Royal family customs on the construction of An-ap pond.

  • This study aims to analyze visual structure by evaluating the view from five building sites around An-ap pond, and attempt to determine which site commands the best view and will provide the most active use. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: According to the questionnaire survey of experts on the relations of dominancy-subordination(´chu-jong´), vacancy-solidness(´heo-sil´), sparsity-density(´so-mil´) based on ancient oriental Yin-Yang theory and analysis of visual structure on angle of elevation, depression, and the landscape-component ratio to be seen through five building sites around the west of An-ap pond, building site three was selected as the building site which has the best landscape. Therefore, it is estimated that building site three played the role of core-building site. According to the result of correlation analysis, the greater the increased in the component ratio of sky, mountain ,the greater the degree of harmony within the landscape. As well, the degree of harmony increased when the landscape component ratio of a distant view was greater than that of a near view. Moreover, it was proved that the relationships of ´chu-jong´, ´heo-sil´, ´so-mil´ are correlative, not independent.

  • This study aimed to investigate the effects of an aquaponics system utilizing catfish recirculating water on the growth and water quality in lettuce and chicory cultivation. After 60 d of catfish cultivation in the BFT-AP, the survival rate was 96.0% and average weight gain was 178.5 g. The WGR grew by 241.4% and the SGR was 3.0%. A comparison between lettuce and chicory cultivation using BFT-AP and hydroponics revealed significant increases in shoot height, leaf count per week, and biomass of the cultivated lettuce and chicory. The SPAD values also increased significantly by 15.4-43.3%. Water quality analysis of the BFT-AP systems and crop cultivation beds showed significant differences, except for K and Na. The average NO3- concentration in the sediment pond was significantly higher at 45.3±1.0. Comparison of water temperature, pH, EC, DO, and ORP in the BFT-AP system and crop cultivation beds revealed similar monthly water temperatures from July to September. The pH in the catfish culture pond was 0.3-1.2 lower than that in the crop cultivation beds, and the EC was approximately 0.01- 0.03 dS/m lower in the catfish culture pond than the crop cultivation beds. The monthly average ORP in the catfish culture bed steadily increased to 479.9 mV in October. Bacillus velezensis (AFB2-2) and Chlorella fusca (CF) were applied to the biological activation bed; the population density of CF showed a continuous increase, whereas that of AFB2-2 decreased after 15 d and gradually increased thereafter. Thus, the application of the recirculating aquaponics cultivation technology with catfish (BFT) enhances catfish cultivation and promotes the growth of lettuce and chicory. Therefore, it is considered suitable for the environment-friendly cultivation of lettuce and chicory.

  • Korean Landscape Garden may be described according to its stage of development. In the primitive agricultural era, the garden was preceded by vegetable yards and at this time rock arranging (Soo-Sok garden) was initiated together with the megalithis culture of dolmens, heavenly altars and tumuli. In the early Three Kingdom period palace gardens were built on a grand scale and toward the end of fourth century temple garden were introduced along with Buddhism. These gardens evolved to the flourishment of "HWAGE"(terraced gardens) rock arrangements of ZEN, early KOR-YO period. Especially since the middle of KOR-Yo period the "IM-CHUN"(forest and pond) garden became popular, while during Cho-Son period "HWAGE" in the back yard, pond and pool garden and "IM-CHUN" style country villa became fashionable. The Korea traditional Landscape garde may be characterized that first it is a nature Landscape style, which makes the maximum accomodation with the surrounding nature. Secondly, the Korean garden is built creatively by utilizing the elements of its climate and topography, Kogu-Ryo, Paik-Je great-Kaya and Sil-Ra had developed original a castle town plans and beautiful gardens rock arrangements which precede the equivalent style of China and set the prototype for Japan. The Landscape art of waterfalls and rock arrangements at An-Ap-Chi garden of 7th century has no equals in China and set the origin of pond style of Japanese garden.
