A Full-scale Fire Test of an Apartment House (공동주택 실물화재 실험)

  • To research about the fire spread in Korean apartment house, a full-scale fire test in a four-story apartment was executed. The fire started at the third floor, and originated from overheated cooking oil in the kitchen. The apartment included all combustibles in general house. Through measuring temperature, measuring the concentration of oxygen and observing, we investigated the fire spread inside the apartment house. As a result, we got the data of the time needed for the initiation of fire, the time for fire to spread into each area in the house, and the time required until flash-over was seen. Also we grasped the understanding of the fire spread to the upper floor.

Field Studies on the Improvement of Indoor Air Quality by Ventilator in Apartment Houses (공동주택용 환기장치의 실내공기질 개선효과에 대한 현장실험연구)

  • Ventilation system is being recommended as an effective tool to improve indoor air quality (IAQ) in apartment houses. Recently, in Korea, apartment house suppliers must establish ventilation system in apartment houses in law. In this study, improvement of IAQ by establishing mechanical ventilation system at apartment house was investigated by mockup test. Seven apartment houses were arranged for the test and improvement of IAQ was examined under the various conditions of ventilation rates, ventilator type and duct works. The results of this study show that IAQ in the test houses which were established mechanical ventilation system was improved about from 30% to 40% compared with IAQ in the apartment house which was not established ventilation system. However, there were no apparent concentration differences between the cases of changing ventilation rates, ventilator types and ductworks.

  • Existing model houses have played an important role in allow the customers to choose apartment. As the information technology has been advanced (e.g. a high-speed internet available in unit), customers' personality and preference to the design of apartment and the purchasing pattern have been changed. Construction firms have introduced VR(Virtual Reality) model house (e.g. Quick Time Virtual Reality) to meet the customers' expectation and need. The reality-based QTVR model house does not provide enough quality to satisfy the customers' expectation. To complement the shortcoming of the QTVR model house, this study presents a web-based cyber model house developed by using Turntool and Javascript. The cyber model house allows to communicate between supplier and customer over the internet.

The Study on the Renovation Method of Apartment House Ventilation System for Reducing Indoor Air Contamination (실내오염 저감을 위한 공동주택 환기시스템의 개선방안에 대한 연구)

  • Recently, Indoor air quality (IAQ) is one of the most important problem in our daily life of modern societies. Mechanical ventilation system is being recommended as an effective method to improve IAQ in apartment houses. And then, in Korea, building industry should install ventilation system in apartment house by the building construction code. In this study, to improve IAQ caused by microbial and chemical contaminant such as bacteria and TVOC, three types of mechanical ventilation system of apartment house including HRV were simulated by multizone modeling. Simulation results suggest an appropriate and economical renovation method of apartment house ventilation system for reducing indoor air contamination.

  • The research was investigated and analysed to get basic data which was made outside environment at apartment house complex. The subject of research is housing complex in Japan. Result of research is as following. 1) The house environment is amenity, because they developed the space as green area and open space without developing outside space as a parking lot. 2) They have developed an apartment design variously. it has variety that the design of facets colors, roof forms, attached facilities etc. 3) Housing complex's center axis is needed to make a plan, that a pedestrian passage which is rich in green area is better than a road.

Variable apartment building planning by using combinable container house module (가변적 평면이 가능한 컨테이너 모듈형 조립식 공동주택의 건축계획)

  • Purpose: Now a day, Most of the residential house in Korea consists of apartment buildings. However, in the case of old apartment buildings, dwelling environment condition depends on management effort by residents. But we can't rebuild or restructure only old single dwelling unit in apartment buildings. And we can't move every single dwelling unit in the apartment building. Therefore, this study suggests a prototype of combinable container dwelling module apartment. Method: The method of research is exploring the case of previously constructed containers. Based on the case, This study suggests prototypes to create a variable apartment design with dwelling container units. Based on the prototype, various combinations are proposed to produce various types of dwelling space. Finally, this study makes an example plan for the apartment by using the container unit modules. Results: This study suggests combinable container apartment building prototypes. And it may be a fundamental study of changing the apartment building concept.

  • Recently the impact sound insulation performance is regarded as one of the most important factor in determining the quality of apartment house. So many studies were carried out to improve these performance and to propose an appropriate evaluation method and standard of floor impact sound insulation for apartment house by psycho-acoustic method in the laboratory. This study was carried out the field psycho-acoustic test to find a correlation between physically measured values and psychological response in apartment house, and the results will be used to establish the appropriate evaluation method and standard of floor impact sound insulation.

  • This study developed Interactive Virtual Model House (IVMH) to provide the cyber model house, homepage of apartment complex, and smart home, which have been indicated as an alternative for improving the residential environments, as a total system. For this cause, the concept of IVMH was established and the apartment and 3-types ways used in the existing system were studied. Based on the organized data, the elements of IVMH by technology and environment were examined, and the model of IVMH was completed. IVMH is a model of an integrated system that supports offering information in apartments using digital technology, supporting conveniences, communication and reflection of opinion. In addition, it will be provided with applicable contents from now on. For those reasons, it is expected to be effective in helping improve habitability.

  • An apartment house and an officetel are already our most important residential space generally. Among food, clothing and shelter, an apartment and an officetel are in charge of a shelter as the most fundamental in our life. To live in an apartment and an officetel, it is necessory for residents to write a lot of informations about themselves. Therefore massive privacy files about apartment's residents is inevitable and it is managing in its own way. A privacy accident in an apartment houses would be a big society problem. This study examined 'tenant list' to find out what it collects and what it's problems are and proposed some vairous measures about the privacy improvements like items reduction & consent process improvement in an apartment house and an officetel from privacy laws perspective.

A Reform of Two to One Dwelling Unit for Three Generation Family Living of Small Houses (3대 동거가족을 위한 소형 아파트 2호1주택 리폼 연구)

  • A goal of this research is to propose the remodeling possibility from deteriorated stock apartment housing, to three generation family living in a dwelling unit for low incomes. An apartment housing which was built from 1970s, is accumulated over $55\%$ of the stock housing in Korea, many of them are confront with a rebuilding in a short usage of twenty years below. They are small one, and many of the residence complain narrow and small space compare to economic growth and their needs. This article deals the reform of two to one dwelling units, that it can be use for three generation family living as a new residence, because its spatial character is more controled privacy condition as a four bay spatial organization in the dwelling. The reform simulated in a 10, 13, 14, 15, and 16 pyung, the remodeling size became from 20 to 30 pyung, and its reform can be apply to extend life cycle of a stock confront with redevelopment. The possibility of the reform houses have more intensive privacy in a house compare with same area of new apartment. It tells us that we can recycle the deteriorate apartment house into three generation family living use, and it will be clue to change slum clearance into reform and recycle of deteriorate apartment house.
