  • In this study, the 95W heavy alloys of 3/7, 5/5 and 7/3 of Ni/Fe ratio were sintered at the temperature range between 1420 and $1480^{\circ}C$ for 1h and their microstructures were discussed for an effect of the ${\mu}$-phase $(Fe_7W_6)$ on the microstructure. The ${\mu}$-phase was observed in the only 95W-1.5Ni-3.5Fe alloy of 3/7 and it is thought to be formed and grown from the surface of the W particle. The W particle was surrounded with the ${\mu}$-phase and there were only the W particles and this phase without Ni-Fe-W matrix at the most part. The ${\mu}$-phase changed the interphase structure in the alloy and the grain growth of the W was suppressed because of interrupting the solution-reprecipitation of the W. The W content in the matrix was considered to be lowered due to the interruption of the solution-reprecipitation and the formation of the ${\mu}$-phase in the .

  • This study was conducted in order to develop wind-water heating system where frictional heat is creased between the rotor and working fluid when they are rotating in the cylindrical heat generator. The wind-water heating system is composed of rotor, stator, working fluid, motor, inverter and heat generation tank. Instead of wind turbine, we have used an electrical motor of 30㎾ to rotate the rotor in this system. Two working fluids and six levels of rotor rpm were tested to quantify heat amounts generated by the system. Generally, as motor rpm goes up heat amount increases that we have expected. At the same rpm, viscous fluid showed up better performance than the water, generating more heat by 10$\^{C}$ difference. The greatest heat amount of 31,500kJ/h was obtained when the system constantly drained out the hot water of at the flow rate of 500ℓ/h. Power consumption rate of the motor was measured by thee phase electric power meter where the largest power consumption rate was 14㎾ when motor rpm was 600 and gained heat was 31,500kJ/h, that indicated total thermal efficiency of the wind power water heating system was 62%.

  • A digitized image passes by encoding, storing or transmitting to show it to users. In this process, may be users would want to see a specific region of the image. And depending on the system features or in the case that the resolution of the image is large, it will take a huge time that the image show to the users. In this time, it will be resonable that the part users want to see shows earlier and afterward the other parts show. For this, JPEG2000 standards provide ROI. Although ROI extraction that users specify ROI arbitrarily is the best, people not always participate in doing all the images. There needs an automatic ROI extracting and storing in some images. JPEG2000 should extract and send an ROI automatically when the images is encoded without ROI. This study proposes a method that automatically extracts an ROI, makes the ROI masks, transfers the masked image preferentially and the background. And the study compares and experiments the proposed method and the method not having ROI.

  • Most diabetic patients experience diabetic mellitus (DM) urinary bladder dysfunction. A number of studies evaluate bladder smooth muscle contraction in DM. In this study, we evaluated the change of bladder smooth muscle contraction between normal rats and DM rats. Furthermore, we used pharmacological inhibitors to determine the differences in the signaling pathways between normal and DM rats. Rats in the DM group received an intraperitoneal injection of 65 mg/kg streptozotocin and measured blood glucose level after 14 days to confirm DM. Bladder smooth muscle contraction was induced using acetylcholine (ACh, $10^{-4}M$). The materials such as, atropine (a muscarinic receptor antagonist), U73122 (a phospholipase C inhibitor), DPCPX (an adenosine $A_1$ receptor antagonist), udenafil (a PDE5 inhibitor), prazosin (an ${\alpha}_1$-receptor antagonist), papaverine (a smooth muscle relaxant), verapamil (a calcium channel blocker), and chelerythrine (a protein kinase C inhibitor) were pre-treated in bladder smooth muscle. We found that the DM rats had lower bladder smooth muscle contractility than normal rats. When prazosin, udenafil, verapamil, and U73122 were pre-treated, there were significant differences between normal and DM rats. Taken together, it was concluded that the change of intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ release mediated by PLC/IP3 and PDE5 activity were responsible for decreased bladder smooth muscle contractility in DM rats.

  • Conventionally, all the unsafe acts by human beings in relation to industrial accidents have been regarded as unintentional human errors. Exceptionally, however, in the cases with fatalities, seriously injured workers, and/or losses that evoked social issues, attention was paid to violating related laws and regulations for finding out some people to be prosecuted and given judicial punishments. As Heinrich stated, injury or loss in an accident is quite a random variable, so it can be unfair to utilize it as a criterion for prosecution or punishment. The present study was conducted to comprehend how categorizing intentional violations in unsafe acts might disrupt conventional conclusions about the industrial accident process. It was also intended to seek out the right direction for countermeasures by examining unsafe acts comprehensively rather than limiting the analysis to human errors only. In an analysis of 150 industrial accident cases that caused fatalities and featured relatively clear accident scenarios, the results showed that only 36.0% (54 cases) of the workers recognized the situation they confronted as risky, out of which 29.6% (16 cases) thought of the risk as trivial. In addition, even when the risks were recognized, most workers attempted to solve the hazardous situations in ways that violated rules or regulations. If analyzed with a focus on human errors, accidents can be attributed to personal deviations. However, if considered with an emphasis on safety rules or regulations, the focus will naturally move to the question of whether the workers intentionally violated them or not. As a consequence, failure of managerial efforts may be highlighted. Therefore, it was concluded that management should consider unsafe acts comprehensively, with violations included in principle, during accident investigations and the development of countermeasures to prevent future accidents.

  • Energy Harvesting is a technology that can convert wasted energy such as vibration, heat, light, electromagnetic energy, etc. into usable electrical energy. Among them, vibration-based piezoelectric energy harvesting (PEH) has high energy conversion efficiency with a small volume; thus, it is expected to be used in various autonomous powering devices, such as implantable medical devices, wearable devices, and energy harvesting from road or automobiles. In this study, wasted vibration energy in an automobile is converted into electrical energy by high-power piezoelectric materials, and the generated electrical energy is found to be an auxiliary power source for the operation of wireless sensor nodes, LEDs, etc. inside an automobile. In order to properly install the PEH in an automobile, vibration characteristics includes frequency and amplitude at several positions in the automobile is monitored initially and the cantilever structured PEH was designed accordingly. The harvesting properties of fabricated PEH is characterized and installed into the engine part of the automobile, where the vibration amplitude is stable and strong. The feasibility of PEH is confirmed by operating electric components (LEDs) that can be used in practice.

  • Today, caused by the growth of computer and communication technology, multimedia, especially image data are being used in different application divisions. JPEG2000 that is widely used these days provides a Region-of-Interest(ROI) technique. The extraction of ROI has to be rapidly executed and automatically extracted in a huge amount of image because of being seen preferentially to the users. For this purpose, this paper proposes a method about preferential processing and automatic extraction of ROI using the distribution of edge in the code block of JPEG2000. The steps are the extracting edges, automatical extracting of a practical ROI, grouping the ROI using the ROI blocks, generating the mask blocks and then quantization, ROI coding which is the preferential processing, and EBCOT. In this paper, to show usefulness of the method, we experiment its performance using other methods, and executes the quality evaluation with PSNR between the images not coding an ROI and coding it.

  • In our general life, what we recognize information with our human eyes and use it is diverse and massive. But even the current technologies improved by artificial intelligence are exorbitantly deficient comparing to human visual processing ability. Nevertheless, many researchers are trying to get information in everyday life, especially concentrate effort on recognizing information consisted of text. In the fields of recognizing text, to extract the text from the general document is used in some information processing fields, but to extract and recognize the text from real image is deficient too much yet. It is because the real images have many properties like color, size, orientation and something in common. In this paper, we applies an adaptive edge enhanced MSER(Maximally Stable Extremal Regions) to extract the text area in those diverse environments and the scene text, and show that the proposed method is a comparatively nice method with experiments.

  • In recent years, fiber reinforced polymer(FRP) plates have shown a great promise as an alternative to steel plates for reinforced concrete beam rehabilitation. Reinforced concrete beams strengthened with externally bonded FRP sheets to the tension face can exhibit ultimate flexural strengths several times greater than their original strength if their bond strength is enough. Debonding failure, however, may occur before the strengthened beam can achieve its enhanced flexural strength. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the debonding failure strength of FRP-strengthened reinforced concrete beams. An analytical procedure for calculating debonding load between concrete and strengthening FRP is presented. Based on the local bond stress-slip relationship in the previous studies, uniform bond stress is assumed on the effective bond length. The analytical expressions are developed from linear elastic theory and statistical analyses of experimantal results reported in the literature. The proposed method is verified by comparisons with experimental results reported in the previous researches.
