$NH_4{^+}-{\beta}^{{\prime}{\prime}}$-alumina which is expected to an inorganic solid electrolyte of high temperature polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) was prepared by ion-exchange reaction of $K^{+}-{\beta}^{{\prime}{\prime}}$-alumina pellet with $NH_4NO_3$ aqueous solution and molten $NH_4NO_3$ salts as an ion-exchange medium in the autoclave and the heating mentle reaction. In the autoclave reaction, the concentrations of $NH_4NO_3$ solution was chosen at 5 and 10 M. Each ion-exchange reaction was carried out at 130, 150, 170, and $200^{\circ}C$ for 2, 4, 6 and 8 h. In the heating mentle reaction, ion-exchange was performed at $200^{\circ}C$ for 2, 4, 6 and 8 h with molten $NH_4NO_3$ salts. In order to determine the effect of reaction times, each ion-exchange reaction was repeated 3 times. The phase stability and the ion-exchange rate of $NH_4{^+}-{\beta}^{{\prime}{\prime}}$-alumina were analyzed by XRD and ICP.
This paper presents the applicability of natural zeolite (Clinoptilolite) for recovery of ammonium nitrogen from high-strength wastewater stream. Isotherm experiments showed the ammonium exchange Clinoptilolite followed Freundlich isotherm and its maximum exchange capacity was $18.13mg\;NH_4{^+}-N/g$ zeolite. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis indicated that a significant amount of nitrogen was adsorbed to the Clinoptilolite. Optimal flowrate for recovery of high concentration ammonium nitrogen was determined at 16 BV/d (=19.2 L/min) throughout the lab-scale column studies operated under various flowrate conditions. This study also provided a method to determine the recovery rate of final product of nitrogen fertilizer based on the model application to the lab-scale continuous data.
The steroid 9${alpha}$-hydroxylase activity has been detected in cytosol fraction, $100,00{\times}g$ supernatant of cell free extract of Mycobacterium fortuitum. The activity was not linear with protein concentration in the assay suggesting 9${alpha}$-hydroxylase is a multicomponent enzyme. The 9${alpha}$-hydroxylase system was partially purified through fractional saturation of ammonium sulfate, strong anion exchange (Mono Q) column chromatography, gel filtration (Superose 12) column chromatography, and testosterone affinity gel chromatography. Ammonium sulfate 50~60% saturated fraction of the cytosol gave 9${alpha}$-hydroxylase activity. For further purification, the half-saturated ammonium sulfate fraction was applied to Mono Q, Superose 12, or affinity gel column. The purification factors of 9${alpha}$-hydroxylase containing fraction after Mono Q, Superose 12, and affinity gel chromatography was 13, 11, and 17 respectively.
A psychrotrophic bacterium was isolated from Antarctic marine sediment and identified as Shewanella sp. species based on the biochemical properties and 16S rRNA sequence, and designated as Shewanella sp. L93. Extracellular protease produced by this strain was purified through ammonium sulfate precipitation, High-Q column chromatography, first gel permeation chromatography, BioScale Q2 ion exchange chromatography and second gel permeation chromatography, and basic properties of this enzyme were investigated.
Isocitrate lyase from crude extract of Saccharomycopsis lipolytica ATCC44601 and MX9-11RX8 temperature-sensitive mutant was purified about 54 times and 87 times, respectively by ammonium sulfate fractionation, Toyo peal HW-55F gel filtration and DEAE-Cellulose ion exchange chromatography, The molecular weight of the purified isocitrate lyase from this yeast was estimated to be 230, 000 by gel filtration on Sephadex G-200, and SDS-polyacrylamide Eel electrophoresis showed that the enzyme consisted of four identical or similar subunits with a molecular weight of 59, 000 and the enzyme showed optimum activity at pH 6.9.
This study proposes the use of a cobalt-based Prussian blue analogue (Co-PBA; potassium cobalt hexacyanoferrate), as an adsorbent for the cost-effective recovery of aqueous ammonium ions. The characterization of Co-PBA involved various techniques, including Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, nitrogen adsorption-desorption analysis, and zeta potential. The prepared Co-PBA reached an adsorption equilibrium for ammonium ions within approximately 480 min, which involved both surface adsorption and subsequent diffusion into the interior. The isotherm experiment revealed a maximum adsorption capacity of 37.29 mg/g, with the Langmuir model indicating a predominance of chemical monolayer adsorption. Furthermore, the material consistently demonstrated adsorption efficiency across a range of pH conditions. Notably, adsorption was observed even when competing cations were present. Co-PBA emerges as a readily synthesized adsorbent, underscoring its efficacy in ammonium removal and selectivity toward ammonium.

Nanoscale zero valent ion (nZVI) technology is emerging as an innovative method to treat contaminated groundwater. The activity of nZVI is very high due to their high specific surface area, and supporting this material can help to preserve its chemical nature by inhibiting oxidation. In this study, nZVI particles were attached to granular ion-exchange resin through borohydride reduction of ferrous ions, and chemical reduction of nitrate by this material was investigated as a potential technology to remove nitrate from groundwater. The pore structure and physical characteristics were measured and the change by the adsorption of nZVI was discussed. Batch tests were conducted to characterize the activity of the supported nZVI and the results indicated that the degradation of nitrate appeared to be a pseudo first-order reaction with the observed reaction rate constant of $0.425h^{-1}$ without pH control. The reduction process continued but at a much lower rate with a rate constant of $0.044h^{-1}$, which is likely limited by mass transfer. To assess the effects of other ions commonly found in groundwater, the same experiments were conducted in simulated groundwater with the same level of nitrate. In simulated groundwater, the rate constant was $0.078h^{-1}$ and it also reduced to $0.0021h^{-1}$ in later phase. The major limitation in application of ZVI for nitrate reduction is ammonium production. By using a support material with ion exchange capacity, the problem of ammonium release can be solved. The ammonium was not detected in the batch test, even when other competitive ions such as calcium and potassium existed.

Considering considerable contents of vanadium and tungsten in spent SCR DeNOx catalysts, separation and recovery of those metals are required. In this respect, commercial anion exchange resin (MP600) was employed to recover vanadium from the synthetic solution of ammonium metavanadate. Experimental results indicated that vanadium exist as anion under the acidic condition (pH 2 ~ 6) and adsorbed on the resin. Although the adsorption rate was increased with temperature, the maximum amount of adsorption was not affected by temperature. Desorption took place under either strong acidic (less than pH 1) or strong caustic (higher than pH 13) condition. However, desorption seldom took place under moderate conditions (pH 3~11). Furthermore, adsorption equilibrium results agreed well with Freundlich isotherm and pseudo-second-order reactions. And, adsorption energy was evaluated using Dubinin-Radushkevich and Temkin isotherm.
The elution behaviour of molybdate and tungstate through anion exchange column has been studied at the various pH. A discussion is made to evaluate the equilibrium constants of the polymerization of these acids comparing with the behaviour of chromate ion and dichromate ion. The eqailibrium constants found at $20^{\circ}$ are $K = 4{\times}10^{53} for 7MoO_4^{2-} + 8H^+ {\longleftrightarrow} Mo7O_{24}^{6- }+ 4H_2O$$ K = 3{\times}10^{54} for 6WO_4^{2-} + 7H^+ {\longleftrightarrow} HW6O_{21}^{5-} + 7H_2O$ referring to this results the conditions of separation of tungstate and molybdate are obtained. iThe quantitative separations of carbonate, molybdate and tungstate from the pregnant solution have been established by anion exchange chromatography, using the $22 cm{\times}44.27 cm^2$ column of Rexyn 201. The optimum eluents for the quantitative separation of those ions are as follows; 0.2M solution of sodium chloride at pH 8 for carbonate, the mixture of 0.5 M ammonium chloride and 0.05 M sodium sulfate at pH 5 for molybdate and 0.5 M solution of ammonium chloride at pH 10 for tungstate. Tungstate is directly recovered from the pregnant solution as a form of ammonium paratungstate, by eluting with ammonium chloride solution.
An alkaline protease producing microorganism was isolated from soil and identified as Streptomyces griseus HC-1141. The optimum culture condition of Streptomyces griseus HC- 1141 for the production of alkaline protease was as follows; 0.5% casein, 0.05% ammonium chloride, 0.1% ferrous sulfate. 2.0% lactose, pH 8.0 and 84 hrs. The enzyme was purified about 53 folds by ammonium sulfate treatment, DEAE-cellulose ion exchange chromatography and gel filtratioo on Sephadex G-150. The homogeneity of the purified enzyme was verified by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The molecular weight was estimated to be 31,000 on sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. This enzyme consists of glycine and glutamic acid as major amino acids. The N-terminal and C-terminal residues of the alkaline protease were leucine and histidine respectively.
