A Comparative Study on the Effect of Fire Retardancy of the Plywood Treated by Ammonium Sulphate and Monoammonium Phosphate (황산암모늄과 제 1 암모늄처리(處理) 합판(合板)의 내화효과에 관(關)한 비교연구(比較硏究))

  • This experiment was carried out for diminishing the material loss and the damage of human life due to the fire disaster by treating plywood with fire retardant chemical solution. At this study, we observed and measured chemical retention, burning point, maximum flame length, flame exausted time, carbonized area, and weight loss of plywood treated by each solution of ammonium sulphate [$(NH_4)_2SO_4$] and monoammonium phosphate [$NH_4H_2PO_4$]. Obtained results at the study may be summarized as follows: 1. In case of monoammonium phosphate-treated plywood, every tested item of fire retardancy was shown more excellent at the 25% chemical concentration and shown also at 9 hours treatment except maximum flame length compared with ammonium sulphate-treated plywood. 2. However in case of ammonium sulphate-treated plywood, 6 hours treatment of fire retardancy was better than 9 hours treating time. 3. Monoammonium phosphate was generally better than ammonium sulphate in every tested item.

Changes of Chemical Components during Fermentation of Pear(Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai) Wine (신고배(Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai)를 이용한 배술 제조 과정 중 성분 변화)

  • For increasing the consumption of pear, the pear wines were made by using eight different kinds of yeast. The chemical properties, such as pH, acidity, ethanol and sugar contents, and the consumer acceptance of various pear wines were analyzed. In analysis result of chemical properties, the value of pH was decreased and the acidity was increased until few days, and then retained during fermentation. The ethanol content was increased and the sugar content was decreased during fermentation. The pear wine brewed by B yeast (Lalnin, Saccharomyces cerevisiae) among eight different kinds of yeast had the highest content of ethanol, also this wine was represented the most consumer acceptance by the panels who consist of two age groups such as 20's to 30's and 50's to 60's. Therefore, we chose the yeast B for analyzing the effect of additives during fermentation. As the additives, the $K_2S_2O_5$ and ammonium phosphate as the disinfectant and hemicellulase and pectinase as fermenting conditioner were added into the pear wine brewed by yeast B. When additives are added, the chemical properties were the same as followed. Te values of pH was lower than when additives were not added(control). The acidity was he highest when ammonium phosphate was added, but the acidity was not changed after 4 day fermentation. Sugar contents when added $K_2S_2O_5$ 350ppm was shown the fastest deceasing, and it was orderly decreased as control, ammonium phosphate, hemicellulase, pectinase, and $K_2S_2O_5$ 175ppm. The decreasing rate of sugar content of these 6 test groups during fermentation gradually decreased without a big changes and the after 7 day fermentation, sugar contents were seldom decreased and the final sugar content was $9.5{\sim}9.8^{\circ}Brix$. In terms of change of the content of ethanol, all test groups generated 11~12.4% ethanol after 7 day fermentation. The group where ammonium phosphate was added generated 12.4% alcohol, which is the fastest speed and the group, which hemicellulase additive was added, showed generally slow alcohol generation rate. In terms of ethanol contents, the non-additive group and $K_2S_2O_5$ additive group showed 0.05%, which is very low, and hemicellulase and pectinase additive group is more than 0.5% which is rather high.

Effect of Various Sources of Fertilizers and Their Application Methods on Seedling Vigor in Rice for Machine Transplanting (비료(肥料)의 종류(種類)와 시비법(施肥法)이 상자육묘(箱子育苗)에 있어서 묘생육(苗生育)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of various fertilizers and their application methods on pH in seedbed soil and seedling vigor of rice cultivars, "Nagdong" and" Samgang", for machine transplanting. The application of amnonium sulfate as nitrogen sources showed higher plant height and dry weight of seedlings than those of the urea treated plot. Seedling rot was highly occured in the basal application of urea than that of split treatment of urea, while the lower seedling rot was observed in ammonium sulfate treated plot than that of treatment. Regardless of the application methods, the higher rooting ability was observed in anmonium sulfate treatment than that of urea. Ammonium sulfate and superphosphate as nitrogen and phosphate sources, respectively, showed lower pH level than that of urea and fused phosphate treated plots. The use of ammonium sulfate and super phosphate as nitrogen and phosphate sources, respectively, seems to be effective to maintain the optimum pH level and to rear the healthy seedling, than that of urea or fused phosphate application.

Effect of a co-culture of scenedesmus dimorphus and nitrifiers on advanced wastewater treatment capacity (Scenedesmus dimorphus와 질산화 박테리아의 공배양이 하수고도처리능에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the effect of a co-culture of Scenedesmus dimorphus and nitrifiers using artificial wastewater on the removal of ammonium, nitrate and phosphate in the advanced treatment. To test the synergistic effect of the co-culture, we compared the co-culture treatment with the cultures using S. dimorphus-only and nitrifiers-only treatment as controls. After 6 days of incubation, nitrate was removed only in the co-culture treatment and total amount of N removal was 1.3 times and 1.6 times higher in the co-culture treatment compared to those in the S. dimorphus- and nitrifiers-only treatments, respectively. In case of total amount of P, co-culture treatment removed 1.2 times and 12 times more P than the S. dimorphus -and nitrifiers-only conditions, respectively. This indicates that the co-culture improved removal rates for ammonium, nitrate, and phosphate. This further implies that there was no need for denitrification of nitrate and luxury uptake of P processes because nitrate and phosphate can be removed from the uptake by S. dimorphus. In addition, co-culture condition maintained high DO above 7 mg/L without artificial aeration, which is enough for nitrification, implying that co-culture has a potential to decrease or remove aeration cost in the wastewater treatment plants.

  • The effect of nutritional and cultural conditions for the production of anti-complementary polysaccharide from Pleurotus sajor-caju was studied. Maximum anti-complementary activity from its culture broth and mycelium was obtained by using lactose and maltose as a carbon source, respectively. Ammonium phosphate (monobasic) and serine were chosen for the highest activity among the inorganic nitrogen compounds and amino acids tested. Optimum temperature for the production of the anti-complementary polysaccharide was $25^{\circ}C$.

  • In this study the effects of temperature, pH, and addition of some minerals were investigated in lactic acid fermentation using Enterococcus faecalis RKYI . As a result, strain of RKYl had retained biological activity at the wide range of temperature($34-46^{\circ}C$) and pH(6.0-9.0), and the optimum temperature and pH were $42^{\circ}C$ and 7.0, respectively. When the effect of various phosphate sources added on lactic acid fermentation was studied, di-basic forms of phos-phate(especially, ammonium phosphate and potassium phosphate) had more stimulating effect rather than mono-basic phosphate sources. And there were no perceivable effect of manganese and magnecium salts addition on lactic acid fermentation.

Optimal Culture Condition and Extracellular Enzyme Activity of Metarhizium anisopliae (녹강균(Metarhizium anisopliae)의 최적 배양조건 및 효소활성)

  • In order to use Metarhizizmn~ anisopliae as a biological pesticide, effect of envrionmental factors on nlycelial growth, spore formation, and extracellular enzyme activity in culture broth of M. anisopliae DGUM 35001 was determined. Optimal temperature was 26^{\circ}C.$ and optimal pH ranged from 5 to 9. Among the complex media tested, MCM and SDPY media were the most favorable for mycelial growth. When Czapek-Dox agar was used as a mnimal medium, glucose and sucrose among the saccharides were very excellent source of carbohydrate. Among the biopolyners tested. chitin was the most favorable source for mycelial growth and produced high aerial inycelia. Urea and ammonium phosphate as an inorganic nitrogen source and bacto-peptone and soytone as an organic nitrogen source enhanced the mycelial growth When serine as a source of amino acid was supplemented, excellent mycelial growth was shown. Large amount of spores could be obtained from the aerial mycelia of starch medium. When the culture broth was filtrated and then the concentrate with ammonium sulfate was used as a crnde enzyme solution, high enzyme activities of amylase and protease were shown. However, lipase and chitinase activities were comparatively low.

  • For the purpose of investigating the effect of chemical composition of nitrogenous fertilizers such as urea, ammonium sulfate, ammonium phosphate(dibasic) and aqua-ammonia on growth, yield, efficiency and chemical properties of paddy soil this study was carried out at the same nitrogen concentration through field experiment. The results obtained was summarized as follows. 1. Nitrogenous fertilizers had an effect on plant height at heading stage, plant weight at harvest and No. of spikelet per panicle of rice plants in decreasing order: Ammonium sulfate > Diammonium phosphate > Urea > Ammonia water. But they didn't effect on culm length, spike length, dry matter weight, No. of grain per spike, ripening ratio and weight of 1000 grains of rice plants. 2. The absorbed amount of nitrogen and that of sulfur and nitrogen availability were highest in ammonium sulfate application and lowest in ammonia water application and these were positively correlated with yield. 3. The influence of nitrogenous fertilizers on nitrogen and sulfur efficiency and translocation efficiency was insignificant but that of ammonium sulfate on nitrogen efficiency was higher than that of the others. 4. The effect of nitrogenous fertilizers on a basic chemical properties of paddy soil experimented such as pH, C.E.C, exchangeable cation and organic matter was insignificant. But the sulfur content of ammonium sulfate application and phosphorous content of diammonium phosphate application were higher than that of the others.

Combustion Characteristics of Hinoki Cypress Louver after Pressure Impregnation with Boric Acid, Borax and Ammonium Phosphate (붕사, 붕산 및 인산암모늄을 가압 함침한 편백 루버의 연소특성)

  • In this study, the combustion characteristics of Hinoki Cypress Louver were measured after performing pressure impregnation with aqueous solution of boric acid, borax, and ammonium phosphate. The characteristics measured include ignition time, critical heat flux, and mass loss rate by incident hear flux (25, 30 and $50kW/m^2$). The samples used for the test were $100{\times}100{\times}10mm$, and the 5 min variation for each incident heat flux was measured 3 times. The results show that the ignition time for incident heat flux of $25kW/m^2$ showed a delay effect of 17.4 to 21.3% except for Type C-H. There was no significant difference at 35 and $50kW/m^2$ in the average mass loss rate in Types A-H and D-H, which had lower rates than Type N-H, which was predicted to be higher than that of Type N-H ($10.7kW/m^2$) by 38.22 to 60.46%. It is thus expected that at the time of initial primary fire, there would be a delay effect against fire spread.

  • The synthesis of 6-aza-3', 5'-p-nitrophenylphosphoryltrioxy-2'-azido-2'-deoxy-2', 3' secouridine and 6-aza-3', 5'-phosphoryltrioxy-2'-azido-2'-deoxy-2', 3'-secouridine ammonium salt are described and they were evaluated for antiviral activity primarily against DNA and RNA viruses and found to be inactive, but no significant cytocidal effect was observed against Vero and Hela cell.
