Vertically well aligned multi-wall carbon nanotubes (CNT) were grown on nickel coated glass substrates by plasma enhanced hot filament chemical vapor deposition at low temperatures below 600$^{\circ}C$. Acetylene and ammonia gas were used as the carbon source and a catalyst. Effects of growth parameters such as pre-treatment of substrate, plasma intensity, filament current, imput gas flow rate, gas composition, substrate temperature and different substrates on the growth characteristics of CNT were systematically investigated. Figure 1 shows SEM image of CNT grown on Ni coated glass substrate. Diameter of nanotube was 30 to 100nm depending on the growth condition. The diameter of CNT decreased and density of CNT increased as NH3 etching time etching time increased. Plasma intensity was found to be the most critical parameter to determine the growth of CNT. CNT was not grown at the plasma intensity lower than 500V. Growth of CNT without filament current was observed. Raman spectroscopy showed the C-C tangential stretching mode at 1592 cm1 as well as D line at 1366 cm-1. From the microanalysis using HRTEM, nickel cap was observed on the top of the grown CNT and very thin carbon amorphous layer of 5nm was found on the nickel cap. Current-voltage characteristics using STM showed about 34nA of current at the applied voltage of 1 volt. Electron emission from the vertically well aligned CNT was obtained using phosphor anode with onset electric field of 1.5C/um.
The purpose of this study is to develop a packing-free wet scrubber to prolong the maintenance interval compared with the conventional packed bed wet scrubbers with which frequent operation stops are unavoidable to clean the packing materials. The main- and interaction-effects were quantitatively analyzed by regression analysis for the measured ammonia scrubbing data from the experiments prepared by experimental design. The scrubbing efficiency of the newly developed wet scrubber was found to be over 95% under the condition of flue gas flow rate of 90CMM and liquid-to-gas ratio $2l/m^3$ for all considered trials of experimental design. The interaction effect between the inlet duct spray and the filter was found to be important, which controls the droplet growth due to the droplet collisions between the duct- and scrubbing tower-spray. The presented methodology to analyze the impacts of operational and design factors on the scrubber efficiency showed potential for applications to optimize the future flue gas abatement process in semiconductor plants.
The objectives of this study were to investigate the effect of applying three different chemical additives to the litter (rice hull) on broiler performance, ammonia and carbon dioxide gas reduction in a poultry house at 6 weeks. A total of 96 broiler chicks (6 treatments$\times$4 replicates$\times$4 birds) were fed the experimental diets for 6 weeks. The chemical additives were applies as a top dressing to the litter at a rate of 200 g ferrous sulfate $(FeSO_4)$, 200 g aluminum chloride $(AlCl_3)$ + 50 g calcium carbonate $(CaCO_3)$ and 20 g potassium permanganate $(KMnO_4)$ per kg litter, while the control group did not have the three different chemicals added to the litter. There were no significant differences in broiler performance between the three chemical additives and control group. $FeSO_4\;and\;AlCl_3\;+\;CaCO_3$ treatment reduced ammonia production from the litter at 6 weeks by as much as 91 and $53\%$, respectively (P<0.05). $KMnO_4$ treatment decreased ammonia production at 6 weeks up to $69\%$ compared to the controls (P<0.05). Poultry litter amended with $AlCl_3\;+\;CaCO_3\;and\;KMnO_4$ also caused a decrease (P<0.01) in carbon dioxide productions at 6 weeks (59 and $65\%$, respectively). In conclusion, although broiler performance was not affected by the three chemical additives and control group, these results indicate that $FeSO_4,\;AlCl_3\;+\;CaCO_3\;and\;KMnO_4$ application to litter in a poultry house resulted in a significant reduction in atmospheric ammonia and carbon dioxide gas.
The current study was conducted to estimate the effect of dietary pyroligneous acid (PA) on performance, noxious gas emission in excreta, blood parameter and fatty acid composition of breast meat in Korean native chicken. A total of 240 one-day-old chicks were allocated to three treatments (PA; 0, 0.1, 0.2%) with five replicate of 16 each per treatment for 10 weeks. Although there was no effect on the performance, ammonia gas concentration was significantly decreased in the PA treatments compared to the control (p<0.05). Birds fed PA had higher serum total protein and high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-cholesterol) concentration but lower triglyceride content in the PA 0.2% treatment than control (p<0.05). In fatty acids composition of breast meat, myristic and stearic acid were significantly decreased, whereas oleic and linolenic acid were significantly increased in the group fed PA compared to those of the control group (p<0.05). The result of the current study indicates that dietary PA may reduce the noxious gas emission and improve lipid levels as well as increase of monounsaturated fatty acids composition of breast meat in Korean native chickens.

This study was carried out to investigate the reaction characteristics of NOx with reagents to grope the power consumption rate reduction and NOx removal rate improvement for the non-thermal plasma denitrification process. The experiments were performed using the real flue gas and wire-plate type plasma reactor. and the flow rate of real flue gas is $20Nm^3/hr$. Paraffinic and olefinic hydrocarbons and ammonia were used as reagents. Olefinic hydrocarbon oxidizes NO more actively than paraffinic hydrocarbon under the non-thermal plasma conditions, resulting in the generation of large amount of $NO_2$ and a very small amount of CO. When the initial NOx concentration increases. oxidation rate of NO decreases and the consumption rate of olefinic hydrocarbon increases significantly. On the other hand. $NH_3$ did not promote reduction reaction with NO under non-thermal plasma conditions. however, there was a tendency that the NHa was effective to remove the $NO_2$ oxidized by olefinic hydrocarbon.

$LaFeO_3$-based thick films with 2wt.%, 5wt.% and 10wt.% $Al_2O_3$ additives were fabricated by screen printing method on $Al_2O_3$ substrates. Structural, electrical and ammonia gas sensing characteristics of the thick films with different heat treatment temperatures were examined. From XRD results, the compound of $LaFeO_3$ and $Al_2O_3$ was not found until the heat treatment at $1200^{\circ}C$. SEM microphotograph showed similar grain growth despite the amount of $Al_2O_3$ additives with the heat treatment. Thick films with high activation energy and low resistance in the electrical properties showed high sensitivity for gases. Thick films with 2wt % $Al_2O_3$ additives heat-treated at $1200^{\circ}C$ showed the sensitivities of 210% for 100 ppm $NH_3$ gas at the working temperature of $350^{\circ}C$. The thick films showed food selectivity to $NH_3$ gas.
When ammonia ($NH_3$) gas was supplied to a biofilter packed with bio-carrier made of waste polyurthane and worm cast. No odor gases were detected at the outlet of the biofilter when $NH_3$ gas was supplied to the biofilter at the space velocity(SV) of $50\;h^{-1}$ until the inlet $NH_3$ concentration increased to $4\;{\sim}\;454\;ppmv$. The gradual inlet $NH_3$ concentration was set and the removal efficiency of $NH_3$ gas was measured at each condition, while the SV of $NH_3$ increased step by step from 100 to $400\;h^{-1}$. The maximum possible inlet $NH_3$ loading was $11.38\;g-NH_3{\cdot}m^{-3}{\cdot}h^{-1}$ and $34.42\;g-NH_3{\cdot}m^{-3}{\cdot}h^{-1}$ while maintaining the removal efficiency of 100% when the SV was $50\;h^{-1}$ and $100 \;h^{-1}$, respectively. The maximum $NH_3$ loading was $71.28 \;g-NH_3{\cdot}m^{-3}{\cdot}h^{-1}$ with the $NH_3$ removal efficiency of 99.85% at SV $300\;h^{-1}$.

This basic study is focused on the physically removal method of carbon dioxide from the decomposition of ammonium carbarmate to prevent the recombination of ammonium salts. A basic visual experimental set-up was designed and constructed to observe the recombination phenomena from the proper composition of ammonia gas, carbon dioxide gas, and compressed air dilution gas. To quantify the recombination phenomena, a simple device was designed to measure the weight change under severe cases for three different tube sizes. The temperature and pressure in the visual tube and the volumetric flow rates of the nitrogen dilution gas were studied and the conditions to avoid recombination were analyzed according to mean free path theory. Diffusivity values based on the Chapman-Enskog theory were calculated from the experimental data. These value may serve as an index for the prevention of recombination.
There have been controversies over whether explosion hazardous area(EHA) should be classified for facilities which use lighter-than-air gases such as city gas, hydrogen and ammonia. Two view points are confronting each other: an economic piont of view that these gases are lighter than air and disperse rapidly, hence do not form EHA upon release into the atmosphere, and a safety point of view that they are also inflammable gases, hence can form EHA although the extent is limited compared to heavy gases. But various standards such as KS, IEC, API, NFPA do not exclude light gases when classifying EHA and present examples of EHA for light gas facilities. This study calculates EHA using the hypothetical volume in the IEC code where the hole sizes required for the calculation were selected according to various nominal pipe sizes in such a way to conform to the EHA data in the API code and HSL. Then, 25 leakage scenarios were suggested for 5 different pipe sizes and 5 operating pressures that cover typical operating conditions of light gas facilities. The EHA for the minimum leakage scenario(25 mm pipe, 0.01MPa pressure) was found to correspond to a hypothetical volume larger than 0.1 $m^3$(medium-level ventilation). This confirms the validity of classifying EHA for facilities using lighter-than-air gases. Finally, a computer program called HACPL was developed for easy use by light gas facilities that classifies EHA according to operating pressures and pipe sizes.

Volatilization of ammonia from N fertilizer is the major mechanism of N losses that occur naturally in all soils and is influenced by numerous soils, environmental and N fertilizer management factors. Vegetables are often damaged by $NH_3$ gas volatilized from the high rates of N fertilizer. We determined the rate of $NH_3$ volatilization from urea applied to surface of the alluvial soil (coarse silty, mixed, mesic family of Dystric Fluventic Eutrochrepts, Ihyeon series) as affected by fertilizer management factors such as rate of urea application, irrigation schedule and temperature. The $NH_3$ volatilization was triggered about 3 d after urea application and reached at maximum level in general within 15 days. Cumulative amounts of 3.0, 4.4, and 8.0 kg of $NH_3$ N after 17 d were volatilized at application rates of 200, 400, and $600kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$, respectively, which were equivalent to the N losses of 15.0, 10.9, and 13.0% of N applied. Masses of N volatilization were 5, 21, 75 and $87kg\;NH_3\;N\;ha^{-1}$ at 5, 8, 22, and 28, respectively. Total amounts of 21.3, 21.2, and $16.6kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ were volatilized at control, 5 and 10 mm water irrigation before fertilization, respectively. However, those at 5 mm irrigation after fertilization were only $10.44kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$. Results showed that urea loss can be avoided by incorporating with the recommended level, applying when temperatures are low or irrigating immediately to carry the urea into soil.
