  • Space dominates all the art activities human do and plays a role of providing aesthetic emotion. Architecture, sculpture, painting, and furniture, etc. these two and three dimensional works are represented in space and interpreted the role of its form, structure and function. Each area is different, but space has been studied in philosophy, physics, geometry, and mathematical studies, etc. and has been consistently interpreted and represented relating to a variety of human creative activity. Furniture is also three dimensional art being dependent on space. In the United States in 2004, I made the living room bench by applying the spatial concept at Rochester Institute of Technology. Two years later, this design was adopted by wendell Castle Collection, an American furniture company, then prototype were made and tested three times during a year, and then since 2007 as indoor benches it has been manufactured in the United States. The study's purpose is to order the process of its development based on the experience of bench production applied the spatial concept, and by analyzing the properties of spatial concept, I am planning to propose a new concept on interaction with the space and furniture for next.

  • The objective of this work was to research click profile of laminate flooring by comparison of click and bonding laminate floorings, especially base on the click profile shape, bonding strength and international patents. Non-glue locking system has been used since laminate flooring was developed. For the reason of environment and saving installation time, the manufacturer in Europe and USA has developed click profile for laminate flooring. Each manufacturer has patent on each click profile. Although each click profile has good lock strength as shape, Berryand Unilin company's click profile systems showed higher locking strength than others. Korean laminate flooring company pay the fee of patent for using European and American manufacturer's click profile. From this work, we grope Korean style laminate flooring and click profile through research on the click profile shape, bonding strength and patents of European and American manufacturers.

  • This study understands rockers of today and supplies basic data of design and manufacture studying pattern change of rockers arisen in West, there is the purpose. Also, this study is investigated by dividing theoretical background of rockers, 7 kinds of American traditional rockers and European rockers from 18th century to opening part of 20th century and contemporary rockers since 20th century. The theoretical background and the style of 2 rockers (Windsor rocker, Boston rocker) were investigated to study the stylistic changes of rockers. Originally a rocker was invented by a European farmer around 1700. It developed to a household which equip practicality and comfortablness in the United States than Europe. Early rockers in a primal form appeared in the 1740s in the United States. American early rockers connected skate to established chair bridge. Rockers are deep connection with family's emotion. Rockers can provide playing functions for children and medically treating functions for adults. Windsor Rockers developed by attaching skate is mammy bench and according to shape of back form bow or hoop-back rocker, birdcage rocker, comb-back rocker. Windsor Rockers formed peculiar American tradition of craftsman furniture through structure that have a unique back of a chair and round seat. Boston Rockers were the first chairs made by mass production method. They show a particular shape with S-curve style seat and rectangular crest at the upper part of the back. Often Crests were decorated by stenciled pattern with curled leaves such as rosettes and scrolled designs.

  • The First bentwood chairs in the world, called "winsor chairs" were made by British craftsman in the 17th century. Since then, from the start of NO.14 using solid bentwood by 19th-century German Michael Thonet, furniture making techniques such as Bent knee, Y-leg, X-leg- were developed based on Llaminated bentwood made by Alvar Aalto of Finland in the 20th century. In the 20th century Charles Eames of the United States studied Molded plywood, using plywood to produce a variety of furniture and during the 17~20 century a variety of Bentwood were developed. Coming into the 21st century, American Matthias Pliessnig and Phil Seaton worked with past Bentwood designs, developing Bentwood further by adapting Bentwood's know-how and IT technology. Science and technology evolved and Reholz of Germany developed technology which can mold three-dimensional wood using a new matarial called 3D-veneer, In the past only plastic or metal could be moulded 3 dimensional but now beautiful wood grain patterns can be molded by utilizing this technology. Also this is comparable with the past two-dimensional molding technology. In this Sustainable Design techniauses era, Bentwood fused with IT technology has great potential as a high-tech and eco-friendly techniche.

  • This article was written in order to understand rockers of today and to provide basic data of their designs and manufacture studying pattern changes in the West. This article contains, the characteristics of the style of the Adirondack rockers, the Mission style rockers in America and the European rockers. Adirondack rockers ($1850{\sim}1940$) were made in various styles out of the mingling of rustic sensibilities with the formalism of Victorian designs. They were Old Hickory chair Co. style, Westport style, bentwood rocker style of two shape and Mottville rocker style. Mission style denoted American furniture design style of the early 20th century especially the work of Gustav Stickley and Roycroft Community. Mission style rockers had a simple, rectilinear style with exposed construction techniques, unpretentious materials (usually oak, with covering of leather, canvas or plain cloth) and little or no decoration. European rockers ($1660{\sim}1918$) have come to mean rockers from the English regional chair, Thonet, J&J Kohn, Henry Van de Velde and Hoffmann. The modernism of modern furniture was affected by the characteristics of the Adirondack rockers, the Mission style rockers and European rockers.

  • While cognition about an environment pollution becomes important recently, the intense pollution measures about an indoor air environment is required. In the case of building indoor environment, over 80% of modem people is living in building and these days an interest of building interior materials which becomes a reason for indoor environmental pollution in public house, office, is increasing. An experimental measurement method of this study is as follows. (1) American EPA TO-17, ASTMD5116-97, measurement method in VOCs experiment of Japanese closet industrial association (2) 2.4-DNPH cartridge method in HCHO experiment, based on American EPA TO-11 and measurement method of Japanese closet industrial association (3) standard compound is analyzed by using HPLC after solvent extraction process (4) paint and furniture are selected as measurement objects (5) we also made small chamber to grasp an emission characteristic of HCHO and VOCs and to get an environment-amicable forecast model through it, then we developed the model which can forecast emission rate by chamber experiment.

  • The approach of using the structure of the Joseon Dynasty Zen tradition we design a piece of table for outdoor camping is a necessity in modern culture as continuing to develop this research. Analyzing outdoor and camping equipment according to the time change, we focus on the study table for outdoor camping can apply the structure of the elbow. Outdoor supply is also overlaid with the change, while changing in the picnic and camping camp sensibility that was taking advantage of the individuality of each of the general camp. However, it is a surface camp that Korean culture is not to build up the camp culture that has been fixed camp culture of the world in the only development, following the camp trend of European and American. In an attempt to adhere to the trend of Korea currently camped, camping outdoor products that apply the beauty of Korea with a combination of new modern representation tradition and our culture has designed research. I have designed the camp outdoor table based on the contents mentioned above. For the design of this time, it is now possible to use appropriately in accordance with the outdoor environment conditions that are designed to upright seat sharing table in the market tables for camping and to be divided into the seat and upright.

  • As essential element of designers, foundation studies program helps student deal with the individual expression of imagination and variety of correspondence for solving design problem through the understanding of 2-D, 3-D basic design elements, principals, structures. Liberal art and foundation studio courses provides embodiment and settlement of design principal through the foundation studies expand to experiences systematically and deeply. After the Industrialization, foundation studies have developed from Bauhaus in German, the courses have been progressing and systematizing with the demand of time in United States. Growth of Industrialization, expanded design areas departmentalized to various of fields, then the segmentation of foundation courses tend to important than basic design courses. The introduction of information era, the appearance of computer is placed as a tool of design development and added to applied basic courses. This study is intended to know how to change the leading foundation courses in United State due to the revitalization of industrialization and information through the research and analyse to foundation design education curriculums. As a result, most of design school in United States provide drawing, 2-D, 3-D, and 4-D courses included 3-D design element as a basic studies and provide to students introduction to fundamental principal of design concept and communication in both theoretical and applied form. • These series articles were written in order to understand rockers of today and to provide basic data of their designs and manufacture studying pattern changes in the West. In the first article of the series reports we already described the theoretical background of rockers and the Windsor and the Boston style among the American classic rockers from the eighteenth to the twentieth century. This article contained the characteristics of the styles of the Shaker rocker, the Wicker rocker, and the Platform rocker. The three periods associated with furnituremaking in the Shaker sect are; the Primitive Era, which lasted from 1790 to 1820; the Classical Era, from 1820 to 1860; and the Final Phase, from 1860 to 1935. The important skills the Shaker needed to make the Shaker rocker are woodturning joinery, seat braid weaving and steam bending for the slats. The Wicker rocker continues to be extremely popular furniture style as the wicker proved equally effective for translating the ornate vine-like motifs popular among Art Nouveau proponents. The Wicker rockers were developed for child's, gentleman's and lady's, and it represents the most diverse forms among the above mentioned styles. However the rocker skates were often clumsy and took up too much room, preventing the chair from being shoved close to the wall and out of the way. These problems were overcome by the Platform rocker. The most important innovation was the technical development of a stationary base, which allowed the chair to rock noiselessly, without skating along the floor. The Modernism of the modern furnitures in America and Europe were affected by the characteristics of the Shaker rocker, the Wicker rocker, and the Platform rocker.
