한국인 거주 미국주택의 공간별 주생활행위와 공간구성 및 사용행태 - 미주리 주 콜롬비아 시를 중심으로- (A Study on the Dwelling Behavior Patterns and Space Planning of Koreans in the Unite States - Focused on Columbia, Missouri -)

  • The main goal of this research was to understand housing environment as well as the living behaviors of Korean people who reside in foreign countries. This study includes examination of dwelling units, especially focusing on dwelling behaviors by space types, arrangement and use of the space, and the according residence patterns of the Koreans in the United States. Focus group interview method and survey method were conducted; photography were taken as a visual evidence; and results were analyzed by researchers. This study strongly indicates that most of Koreans try to keep their own way of living in foreign cultures and rather readjust the housing spaces and living patterns to their own culture. The results from this study have limitations in generalizing all Korean families living in foreign cultures, because a convenience sample was used. Although studies of Korean families in Columbia, MO may not provide information that can be generalized to the entire population of Koreans overseas, we expect that this study provides useful insight in understanding and estimating the future trends in residential planning for Koreans.

한국과 미국의 공동주택 관리제도 비교 (The Comparison of Apartment Management System between Korea and America)

  • This research is carried out to investigate the Condominium Management System of the states of California and Hawaii, and to examine the similarities and the differences between the Korean Apartment Management System and the American Condominium Management System. The research indicates: first, in Korea the management of apartment units is the Commission of the Representatives of the Occupants, while in America the management of condominiums is the Association of Apartment Owners, an organization of condominium owners in America. Second, it is required that apartment developers should submit such a document as the Public Report in America, which explains various matters concerning legal rights on condominium buildings and the outline of the buildings, to the authorities concerned in Korea. It can help the authorities to accumulate management techniques of the apartment complex, which could efficiently be used in practicing and planning city housing policies. Third, each apartment's management company in Korea is bound to make long term plans for maintenance based on the Housing Law. It is, however, difficult to reserve an adequate amount of money for the reserve fund, because its use is decided according to the maintenance rule which has a criterion different from each and every apartment management. Concludingly, an amendment of the Housing Law in Korea is required, in order to reserve at least 50 percent of the estimated sum of maintenance expense in future like Hawaii State in America.

인구주택총조사 대안 방법으로의 순환총조사 (Rolling Census as an Alternative to the Population and Housing Census)

  • 인구주택총조사는 국가기본통계조사로서의 중요성과 필요성에도 불구하고 여러 가지 조사실행의 현실적인 어려움에 직면하고 있다. 많은 조사비용과 수집되는 정보의 양의 감소, 그리고 긴 조사 주기 등이 현행 총조사에 제기되는 문제점들이다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하는 전통적인 총조사의 대안의 하나로 순환총조사가 대두되었다. 순환총조사에서는 국가 전체를 여러 해에 걸쳐 조사하므로 조사결과를 자주 생산하여 시의성이 개선되고 조사비용을 균등 분배할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 반면, 한 순간에 국가 전체를 조망하는 특성이 상실되고 현장조사에서 외부의 영향이 증가할 수 있는 단점이 있다. 이 논문에서는 순환총조사의 사례로 프랑스 순환총조사와 미국지역사회조사를 구체적으로 살펴보았다. 그리고 현행 총조사의 대안으로 순환총조사를 도입할 때 검토해야 하는 사항 중, 순환표본 선정, 모집단 갱신, 합성추정, 순환표본 실행에 대하여 고찰하였다.

경기 대침체 이후 가계의 부채상환 문제 (Effects of the Great Recession on Debt Repayment Problems of Hispanic Households in the United States)

  • The recent Great Recession of 2008 was a period of sharp economic decline throughout the late 2000s. All socio-demographic groups were impacted by the economic downturn, however, Hispanic households were particularly hard hit. It is not a recent phenomenon that minority groups often have greater problems related to credit and debt repayments. A better understanding of these racial/ethnic differences in credit and debt has been hindered by the propensity of many studies to pool all racial/ethnic minorities together and compare them to white households. Using a Heckman-type selection model with a combination of the 2010 and 2013 Survey of Consumer Finances datasets to study household debt repayment problems, we found that racial/ethnic groups have been differently impacted by the recent Great Recession in terms of debt repayment problems. Hispanic households were less likely to hold debt; however, those with debt were just as likely as white households and African American households to be delinquent in repayments. This finding is contrary to prior research that indicated Hispanics with debt were less likely than white and African American households to be delinquent on repayments prior to the Great Recession of 2008. We propose possible explanations for the increase in debt repayment problems, that includes increased assimilation into the U.S. culture of credit use, the circumstance of being more recent home buyers prior to the decline, and living in states that suffered the greatest decline in housing value.

Topology and geometry optimization of different types of domes using ECBO

  • Domes are architectural and elegant structures which cover a vast area with no interrupting columns in the middle, and with suitable shapes can be also economical. Domes are built in a wide variety of forms and specialized terms are available to describe them. According to their form, domes are given special names such as network, lamella, Schwedler, ribbed, and geodesic domes. In this paper, an optimum topology design algorithm is performed using the enhanced colliding bodies optimization (ECBO) method. The network, lamella, ribbed and Schwedler domes are studied to determine the optimum number of rings, the optimum height of crown and tubular sections of these domes. The minimum volume of each dome is taken as the objective function. A simple procedure is defined to determine the dome structures configurations. This procedure includes calculating the joint coordinates and element constructions. The design constraints are implemented according to the provision of LRFD-AISC (Load and Resistance Factor Design-American Institute of Steel Constitution). The wind loading act on domes according to ASCE 7-05 (American Society of Civil Engineers). This paper will explore the efficiency of various type of domes and compare them at the first stage to investigate the performance of these domes under different kind of loading. At the second stage the wind load on optimum design of domes are investigated for Schwedler dome. Optimization process is performed via ECBO algorithm to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the ECBO in creating optimal design for domes.

Korean and US Female College Students' Clothing Buying Patterns Relative to Personal Self-Concept

  • This study compares the buying patterns of American and Korean female college students in relation to their self-concept. It was implemented through self-administered questionnaires which were back translated for validity. Respondents comprised 730 female students majoring in fields related to clothing and textiles: 307 U.S. students were located in the Northeast, West, and Southwest, and 423 Korean students were at four universities in Seoul. Likert scales were used for most measures, with 1 = never or very unimportant, and 5 = always or very important. Personal self-concept was measured on the basis of Won-Shik Jung's Standardized Self-concept the Test and Tennessee Self Concept Scale. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and t-tests. Some clear differences between the two countries emerged. Marketers targeting American consumers should pay more attention to practicality and service, and for Koreans, more symbolic meaning of products and store displays, since these are important to them. Self-concept was somewhat related to purchasing behavior, but more study should be done before applying findings to marketing concepts.

도시농업을 활용한 유휴공간의 재발견: 밀워키를 사례로 (Reinventing Vacant Lands for Urban Agriculture: Evaluating Milwaukee's Vacant Land Programs and Initiatives)

  • Converting vacant lands for urban agriculture has become a popular topic for American cities to engage in on a program and policy level. The advocates of urban agriculture cite a number of potential benefits, ranging from promoting sustainable urban development, fostering social interaction and educational opportunities, regenerating neighborhoods, and empowering residents. With the emergence of vacant lands in South Korea, different strategies have been implemented for productive use. Nonetheless, less attention has been paid to reinvent vacant lands for urban agriculture. Therefore, this study has examined the case of the City of Milwaukee's vacant land initiatives and programs that were known to have brought a series of positive neighborhood revitalization outcomes. Compared to the case of Milwaukee, intensive land use and high property prices have turned to be the major actors that prevent an active use of vacant land for urban agriculture within the context of South Korean cities. Thus, this paper proposes the possibility of using vacant lands in apartment complexes for urban agriculture.

콜롬비아 도시계획 제도와 도시개발사업 사례 분석을 중심으로 살펴본 한국 도시개발 협력 역할과 과제 (The Role and Directions of Korean Urban Development Cooperation: A Review of Colombian Planning Systems and Case Studies of Urban Development Projects)

  • 중남미 및 카리브해(LAC) 지역에서 한국의 도시개발협력이 점차 확대되고 있지만 이와 관련된 국내의 시장 참여 전략은 미흡한 실정이다. 본 논문에서는 콜롬비아의 도시계획체계, 도시개발사업, 한국의 협력사업을 분석하고 중남미 도시개발사업 협력을 위해 고려해야 할 사항을 도출하였다. 연구 방법은 먼저 콜롬비아의 주요 도시인 보고타(Bogotá)와 메데진(Medellín)의 국가 및 지역 도시 계획 시스템을 비교하고 시사점을 도출하였다. 둘째, 콜롬비아의 토지구획정리사업, 대규모 공공임대주택 공급을 위한 마크로프로젝트, 한국과 콜롬비아의 도시개발협력 사례를 분석하고 시사점을 도출하였다. 연구 결과 한국의 도시개발 협력사업시 과제로는 첫째, ODA를 통한 원조사업은 투자형 개발사업과 같이 사업화로 연결시키기 보다는 향후 본사업을 위한 콜롬비아의 도시 네트워크 형성에 주력하는 것이다. 둘째, 인프라사업과는 다른 도시개발 협력사업의 재원조달구조를 파악하는 것이 필요하다. 셋째, 해외의 개발사업인 만큼 개발 기간 및 규모를 단지급 규모이하의 적정 규모로 설계하여 성공사례를 만드는 것이 필요한 것으로 나타났다.

주택 내 보조설비가 미국 노인들의 생활기능 감소로 인한 주거이동에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Built-Environment Features on Relocation among American Older Persons with Decline in Functional Ability)

  • Functional ability is an important criterion to predict the capability of older persons to maintain independent living in the community setting. This study focused on the effect of built-environment features to ameliorate declines in functional ability and reduce the likelihood of relocation. Using longitudinal data from the Asset and Health Dynamics Among the Oldest Old (1993, 1995), relocation was analyzed for 6,225 respondents aged 70 or older. Findings are that while functional decline in household activities of daily living among older persons increased their residential moves in the community, functional declines in basic activities of daily living, household activities of daily living, and advanced activities of daily living among them increased their entrance into an institutional care facility However, they were less likely to enter an institutional care facility when their home was equipped with built-environment features such as street level ramps, special railings, modifications to allow someone in a wheelchair, grab bars or shower seat in the bathroom, and special call device or system to get help.

아르헨티나 거주 파라과이 이민자에 대한 차별과 통합의 한계 (Limite of Integration and Discrimination of Paraguayan Inmigrants in Argentina)

  • This article has analyzed the limite of integration and discrimination of Paraguayan inmigrants in Argentina. The most numerous collectivity is the Paraguayan inmigrants, with about 325,046 members that reside mainly in the Gran Buenos Aires in 2001. Paraguayan inmigrantes and their families usually undergo abuses by security forces and the over exploitation and the illegal work to a large extent work informally and for low wages. They also point out numerous problems of discrimination with respect to access to the services of public of health, education and housing. For the reason, Argentine government has established the program of Patria Grande in April 17, 2006. This program is that issue a permanent residence and DNI for Latin American immigrants from bordering countries. But the Argentine government does not maintain the program Patria Grande. Paraguayan inmigrants are still situated in the increase of the ilegal work and social insecurity.
